5 of the top 6 have spent £37m+. Spending big does not guarantee success but it is extremely difficult to be successful without spending big.
Our budget is pathetic. Thanks Kev.

£6m for a player that will be of absolutely no use when they go up?
Spending cash for the sake of it. Started on the bench, looked like the daft kid you made sub when you were short and only brought on when someone lapsed into a coma.
I see you point but Madine isn't the best example.
I don't get this theory that just because other clubs have wasted money we will. Are you implying Wilder will 'spunk millions on crap forwards despite his record in the transfer market ?

He was the best player on the pitch when we played Bolton at home.
Clarke was the best striker on the pitch at Swillsboro and has outscored Madine this season. Do you think he’s worth 6m? You can’t judge a player on 1 gameHe was the best player on the pitch when we played Bolton at home.

As sickening as tonight's injustice was, both us and Millwall are doing fantastically well. The teams that have spent big and spectacularly under-achieved will be looking for new managers sooner rather than later.
He had a good game. Let's not get carried away.

I'm not sure tonight was an injustice. We didn't take our chances, that's our fault, not anybody else's.
And John Fleck cost £0.Gary Madine cost £6M
That’s the market now we need to get our heads around
Yes, we had some 'Big Chances' tonight as we did at Brentford, but no team converts every chance - I'd say one in three or four is about average. At least we're creating the chances now, the rest will follow.
I think Sean’s assertion was more a point that not now or in a million years will Madine ever be worth 6m. Now that’s how to spunk moneyI wasn't, I was countering ST's assertion that based upon tonight Madine is crap. If ST can claim that Madine is shit based solely upon tonight, then I can claim otherwise based upon his performance against us for Bolton. Both positions carry equal weight. It's worth noting that he was so shit against us, he ended CCV's Utd career.

I queried the fee value rather than saying he was "shit" in general. Although he was tonight.
Thanks for pretending otherwise though.

No worries.![]()
Totally agree we were by far the better footballing team tonight and with a bit of luck would have had three points.Proud of the lads tonight, as good as I’ve seen us in months.
Excellent performances throughout the team but for the most important bit which is taking our chances. We are SO close but the fact is that we’ve not got enough players in the squad (DMF) who expect to score goals on a regular basis. Put Brown circa 2003 and Beattie in this team and we’d be pushing for auto.
Let’s not let the disappointment of their late goal cloud the fact that we’ve got a team and a manger to be proud of and today’s not been a bad day at all for us overall. Wherever we are next season we’ll need some more fire power, but that performance was up there with the first few months of the season, and we might just be coming into our best when it really matters especially if Clarke’s goal gives him a boost. I thought he was excellent tonight. UTB.
interesting how different posters see different things in these facts.View attachment 38294
So has spending a fortune benefitted Sunderland? Norwich? Wednesday? Hull? Leeds etc? I ask the question because there will be calls for new striker(s) after tonight. Reality checks> Leon Clarke is the third-highest scorer in The Championship - ahead of Albert Adomah and Ryan Sessegnon.
Donaldson cost £50k but has scored more than Jordan Rhodes.
Cardiff's sub. tonight (Madine) cost £6m - more than United's entire squad.

I'd love a 12" cock & a new Ferrari
The problem in January was that we already had one of the top scorers in the squad and having lost Coutts we were more bothered about midfield signings. The loss of form of 2 strikers and a loan signing of a Man Utd reserve haven’t helped. If Leon and Billy would have doubled their pre Christmas tally and Donaldson would have chipped in with 10 it wouldn’t have been so bad. Hindsight eh.
We made 4 signings in the window. One started last night and has done reasonably well. One came on as we were eating up time (ha!) and has not done well. A third started well but showed little since, and is often injured. The fourth, who I had the highest hopes for, has hardly featured and done little when he has played.
It's easy to play captain hindsight but thus far we haven't done very well out of the transfer window.
