I mean, no one has to take that as read. For me, the word “plead” rings alarm bells and it’s how you wish to interpret it. But seriously, would it surprise you? All our players will have a price regardless of who they are and especially in our precarious financial position. If the price is met imho, he’ll be off. Won’t matter a jot that Wilder says he wants to build a team around OA

I’m going nonsense then. Pleaded is in James’ opinion and there’s room for artistic license.
Is Wilder saying “we need to be keeping and building around players like Oli” pleading with the board to keep him?
Possibly if you’ve some column inches to fill, so I’d love to see what, if anything is quoted.

I am guessing it will depend to some extent on our cashflow whether we sell. It is now clear that this was a real mess hence the defaulting on transfer installments and the embargo and now points deduction. Frankly a complete shambles. Only good thing was PA hung onto out best players and we got promoted. However PA has shown he is greedy and wants to sell the club at an unrealistic price. Bearing in mind how much he paid and how much he has put in he could probably sell for £90mill and still make a good profit.
We have no cash flow problems, we have no cash!

If we get a half decent bid for Blaster in the summer, he'll be gone. No question. Bettis has already said we need to flog at least one player in order for to cut our clothes. Blaster is currently our most saleable asset.

The best we can hope for is a deal with a loan back for the season, so at least we can get another season out of him.

Archer,Anel and Souza all going anyway? He won't be gone no question

I thought that making him captain was surprising at the time but it makes sense now, either it was making a hometown boy the captain to give him an increased sense of loyalty or it was to drive up the price

Going where though? Hopefully the villa but back rumours are true about archer, as ATM he's not worth close to that.

But who comes in for Anel? Pretty much a mainstay in the worst defensive team in premier League history, looking like we'll take that record by a margin too.
Same with Souza, impressive tackling stats, but again who on earth buys him? Given the financial situation we'd need a minimum of 75% of our original fee for him, I just don't set anyone paying that.

We genuinely have managed to come back down from a season in the prem a considerably smaller squad value than we went up with. We have little to no sellable assets. That's absolutely shocking mismanagement by the club, its an absolute joke.

I honestly think the only offers that make financial sense will be for our young players. The only other one I can see us selling for pretty much what we paid is Hamer. He's struggled for consistency, but has produced some good performances and decent creativity stats in a truly dreadful side.

OA has flourished under Wilder.

We need to see him for a season in the championship. He’s the captain now.

Would be great to have him for a year or two before he goes.

Wilder has had exactly zero to do with his development. What we are seeing is the results of efforts put in by the likes of Hecky & Lester over a long period to nurture a natural talent who was identified as such a few years ago. Wilder’s merely getting the benefit of that. Where OA is now has been planned for and was always going to happen.

But the rest of your post is correct.

Hecky sent him out on Loan to LG1. Never even looked like rating him as a player.

Wilder brought him straight back trained for a few months and threw him into the side. Then his performances have improved game on game.

I had several conversations with Hecky about him. You are a million miles wide of the mark.
You should have told him a million times how do you not have eyes to see this player bang in front of your face. You should have spent the £10m on a defender and not signed Souza.

I don’t blame Hecky for a lot of stuff. But not having this boy who’s arguably international standard in your side was sackable just on its own.

With your insight can you explain what he actually saw was wrong?

I’ve PMd you.

Wilder is a pimp. He over hypes the lad, makes him captain, tells the world how good he is etc.
Blaster is a good young player, but the hype is over the top, he's being pimped out.

Surely if you've got a real talent that might get tempted away , the best thing to do would be to play things down and say he's young , he'll be inconsistent, he needs to be nurtured etc
But oh no , not with BigMouth Wilder , he's feckin amazing , I've made him captain at the Theatre of Dreams , roll-up , roll-up + buy him off us.

I didn't rate Hecky, but one thing I will give him credit for was sending OA out on loan to Port Vale to help the lad learn his trade. There was an exceptionally high chance that the lad wasn't ready at the start of the season for the Premier League and we needed some experience in the engine room. So I agree with the thought process and it obviously worked out well for OA. Just a pity that Hecky wasted about £10m on the only Brazilian who can't pass a football and who has the heart of a pea.

But to say Hecky didn't rate OA is just plain wrong. He was on record on numerous occasions where he mentioned that we have 'a real player on our hands' with OA. By all means have a pop at Hecky on numerous failings but I think it unfair to have go at him re how he handled OA.

One of the strongest things I’ve seen wrote on here.

Well done sir.

My issue is he didn’t give him a new contract …. Didn’t play him…. Didn’t loan him to a championship side.

I understand people are saying he rated him but he really didn’t show it. Now we just have word of mouth that he did.

Wilder scouted him at Port Vale… brought him straight back… wouldn’t put him into the first team until he signed a new deal. He signed it…. Put him on bench…. Then started bringing him on… then starts him as captain.

I know one manager rates him very highly the other didn’t really show it.

Same as Ndiaye he was training with the first team with Wilder and Slav but we couldn’t get him to sign a new deal as we cannot showcase our talent without it. Slav did well to get him to sign. Wilder was sacked during the process.

According to a rag this morning, Wilder has pleaded with the board to keep Arblaster next season

If that is true, then I have a feeling that I know what’s coming then?

I, for one, support the little pleader.

Club are under some strong focus now.

We went up and spent little on transfers when fees in were taken into account for Berge and Ndiaye
The explanation for that was obvious given the financial mess we were in, and that the money gained would be used to fund off field projects and reset the balance sheet.
Bettis has stated we will need to sell maybe one player if we went down, this was many months back when Blaster wasn’t even in contention, and at best might have been worth a million or so based on where he was at career wise and experience wise at that time.

So, I understood that as follows.

Archer- has a pre arranged deal, that didn’t count as far as Bettis is concerned meaning we will need to sell another decent asset, and a fee of around £20m.
The parachute money will be used to fund salary, not a transfer budget. Therefore we will need that transfer fee in to support the rebuild.

Options-
Anel- shown himself up this season with performances and attitude. Confirmed he isn’t a premier league player, and no Champ club can afford him. Best he can hope is a top league club abroad will pay, but even then no champions league clubs will be interested so fee wise we will be lucky to get £10m. Clubs going up to the prem won’t be interested, they have better already.

Hamer- proven he has certain attributes to mix it in the top league. Stats wise he has performed in a poor side.
He will be on the radar if promoted and lower end prem sides. Has a long enough contract, we can control that fee. Not sure of any sell on clause but there’s a profit in that transfer.
Minimum £20m fee.

Blaster- High ceiling for development, age, proven he’s capable. Could be a question mark over consistency as that isn’t proven yet. Long contract, in our hands.
Minimum £20m fee.

Osula- Potential, not proven at all in men’s football. Needs to go on loan and play a lot.
Good contract, but a risk to a buyer and only really a prem club low cost risk.
At best £5m.

Souza- paid a high fee but was obvious from the off he lacked anything like the talent we might have hoped befits a player of that price. Poor attitude, and won’t want to be here either.
If we can get anything back for him we will be lucky, but might find a £5-10m bid from someone who wants a player with experience. But our issue again is the clubs who might be interested are unlikely to have big money to spend.

The rest…the Traore, Trusty, Slimane, Grbic we are stuck with, all not good enough and solid waste of money.
In my eyes worth whatever you can get for them and Wilder needs to be dragging them in for meetings with Their agents to tell them to find another club, we do t want them and will take whatever we can get and cut our losses.

At the moment I dont see many other saleable assets with contracts at the club. So regardless what happens we need to hope we can find buyers for the players who clearly want out (Anel/Souza) and that last lot of dross and sell 6 rather than one.
However…hanging over us is the owner, and the need for a lot of players incoming.

I predict that they would rather sell one or two rather than 6 as it just makes the transfer in task harder and more expensive.
So best we can hope is Anel and Souza find buyers soon, so we can bin them off and hopefully resist temptation to sell the 2 players we need to be rebuilding the club around.
