But, but Selles 6 weeks here has caused Chris big problems.

No, it was James Bord (engaged by the owners) that caused the club big problems.
Hoevering up all those star players (and manager).

Most of those 'stars' are still here on long contracts, that we are struggling to give away.

Did Birmingham's £15/20 million pound striker Jay Stansfield set the Lane alight yesterday?

Agree though to be fair, Selles didn’t exactly help!

I can certainly imagine us picking up a point there because we did a few months ago despite being down to 10 men for the majority of the game.

Bristol City, Norwich, Pompey and Stoke all got beat at home yesterday, I imagine none of their fans are as negative as this thread.
Norwich fans are fuming and giving Brooks and the referee some reight stick

Couldn't agree more. Only slight pushback, is Wilder chose him over One and Campbell - so I guess it kind of is his fault.

Was amazed when i looked at the ratings on the forum and his average was 3.57. Who the hell thinks he was worth a 4 or above?!?!?!
I gave him a 1.5, 1 for getting his boots on the right feet and 0.5 for tying them.

Wilder is what will be required over the next year or two (lack of investment in playing staff, make the team hard to beat, try and get to 50 pts per season asap), beyond that is anyone's guess at the minute?

, but no manager can make average players into quality ones.
Maybe he’s a victim of his own success?

look at his first spell, that squad was worse on paper than this, and definitely last seasons, yet he took them to 9th in prem

Clement at Norwich last season, cooper at Forest, Lampard at Cov

Wilder mk1 and those, All examples of what a good coach can do

Wilder mk3 is past it, bless him for mk1 and the best years for years

Completely irrelevant. If you’ve not got the tools to succeed then it’s irrelevant what you earn
He signed a new contract knowing he wouldn't have the tools ? He must have assured the owners he could get results on a small budget. Cant really lose can he as he can just say he wasn't backed and walk off with another payoff

I thought it was only PorkTalk where delusional idiots held sway. Football in England is always about money in the boardroom, at the moment we aren’t in the top 25, maybe not top 30. The only reason we’ve been punching is because of what Wilder achieved and the money that came from that and the culture he has put in the club. There seem a lot of people on this forum who don’t seem to understand that Sheffield United has always been about graft.

That squad had spirit. Even that player who scored on the 2 1 victory over Oxford. What was his name? Jake Wright, James Wilson, John joe o'brien? or something? Whatever happened to those lads? Egan, Bash. Wilder players. Football has changed though. Spirit, grit only gets you so far. More athletes now.

Was yesterday really the tipping point to suggest the bloke should lose his job?

I’m now wilders biggest fan but even I’m happy to admit it’s ridiculous to leap to that conclusion after two games.

However it is a timely reminder of how quickly the fans turned on Selles, and it’ll be interesting to see how far the bar has been lowered before more grow tired of Wilder.

No idea how Wilder gets the blame and the owners don’t. Do you think wilder wanted to sell Brooks & Hamer and not have any money or preparation to replace?

This time last season we still had our ‘stars’ and got battered. I’d take today over that any day
I don’t think that the owners are blameless. But Wilder is the coach. He’s supposed to make a group of players, greater than the sum of their parts, by training them in structure and process, as well as making the better individually. He’s also supposed to be able to think on his feet and manage in game, and in season issues, like different teams’ approaches, injuries, game burden etc. if it was just down to signing loads of brilliant players, ANY of us could coach! Of course Hamer and Brooks will be missed, but he’d have to manage it if they had long term injuries.
What I saw in this game, and in plenty of games last season with Hamer and Brooks, is an absence of structure, strategy, style, guile, creativity, speed of thought, fitness… all things that a coach is there to address.
I simply don’t think that Wilder is a good enough coach for the Championship these days.

If you are talking about Sunderland in the promotion season, then they were crap for months. They limped into the playoffs and were crap in the final. If you are talking about last season, then it was virtually a completely different team, with an enormous financial outlay.
When Sunderland knew autos were beyond them they prepared for the play offs and found a way to pinch it off Coventry and beat us and let’s be reight the last 30 minutes we were crap embarrassingly crap and the better team won because they weren’t crap in the last third of the game
And played us off the park at the lane with expansive football even though we nicked it
Sunderland also put 2 portfolios together in January one a plan for the next season in the championship and one for the PL both lists had recruitment targets in January
Oh and our form post beating Coventry was worse than Sunderland’s

After yesterday's terrible performance I would suggest replacing Chris Wilder with Laura Ingalls Wilder. Surely she'd do a better job?

Of course.

That's all Wilder's ever done for this club, blame Selles.

I must have imagined the promotions and managerial awards he's gained with us.

Presumably I'll wake up tomorrow and have a 'Bobby Ewing it was all a dream' moment, and discover that we're still in League One with that tosser Adkins, and that cretin Hammond.

Or maybe I haven't imagined the benefits Wilder has brought to this club, and I'll wake up tomorrow to the realisation that our fanbase is half full of non-Blade wankers who couldn't understand the concept of appreciation if they had it tattooed across their ass.

I don’t think anyone wants him replaced with an inept manager.

For me he’s the best person for the job with the idiots in charge that we have. There are loads of managers better than Wilder, but the chance of COH employing one is virtually nil.
Your first line isn't what I said. But the rest was exactly my point.

There's a fine line between getting in the right manager and doing a Leicester. We hit rock bottom but finally got the right manager in Robins. I wouldn't wish L2 with a poor owner on anyone.

I’ve always said Robins would be a good manager for us. Very calm and unassuming bloke.

I also like him because he won me a decent bet when my mate, who was playing for Rotherham at the time, told me to lump on him being their next manager following a call with him and I took the advice.

Calm down Chris.

The league one and championship promotions along with the first premier league season were by far the best seasons in my 30+ years as a Blade but they seem like a long long time ago now. It was a golden period with an excellent squad with an incredible system that worked brilliantly until it didn't work at all.

Similar to the way Fleck was arguably our greatest ever midfielder before becoming an absolute liability in a short period - of course we appreciate the great times but they are long gone. Wilder doesn't have some sort of divine right to manage us today because of a few brilliant seasons a few years ago.

The football is awful, the signings uninspiring, the sales predictable, and his excuses are just boring now. The board takes some blame, but Chris runs Sheffield United and is highly accountable for the majority of it. I love the man but he doesn't seem to have a clue anymore and we're going nowhere fast while he's in the dugout.

Or maybe I haven't imagined the benefits Wilder has brought to this club,
what benefits? He’s made some very average players millionaires, he’s spent tens of millions with agents, he’s got himself a couple of nice payouts while keeping his mates in work.

How has the club benefited? We’ve got memories and a basketful of debt. Oh and the fan park and some led signs.

We’re back at the foot of the championship with a declining squad & horrible style of football, right back where we started in 2016.
