When can we start talking about Europe?

Apologies if I've misunderstood this post? It does however read as, "Let's try and be a little bit successful, but we cannot afford to be too successful"!
That attitude is why we will always remain tryers with a bit of novelty, but ultimately destined for relegation!!
I dont want us to live beyond our means, but at least let's make the effort on the field and see where it takes us!!
UTB.
That's just big man talk
The reason we have over achieved so greatly is largely down to the job the fitness team have done with the players ,keeping them.fit enough to press with energy week in week out ,you add another game a week in and I guarantee you we lose everything that's got us where we are

We dont have the size of squad to play with that intensity ,even wolves and Burnley with much stronger and longer established squads struggled

Bury your head in the sand all you want but the Europa league Is a poison chalice that no one wants
Actually think its a bit small time that some of our fans would risk our premierleague status just to be able to say we had European football once just like Bolton

Getting into Europe used to be a huge deal. Now the Europa League is a joke competition - one for the U23s of top clubs. The Champions League is everything.

Which is sad because they used to say the UEFA Cup was harder to win than the European Cup, as it contained all the teams on the rise, rather than those that had peaked the year before.

Different times.

I find it hilarious that we’re already turning our noses up at the prospect of qualifying for the Europa Cup. When we’ve only had five and a half seasons in the top division in the last 40 years.
We are the punters ffs....we are allowed to dream about things like Europe. Let the owners worry about how to finance it.

I’ll be looking forward to aiming for it when we’re 100% safe. We had a ten point cushion once before remember.

Mind you, Chris has got his pay rise so can concentrate on the team rather than bending the ears of the press about how hard done to he’s been, a la Colin.

:)

I find it hilarious we’re talking about qualification for Europe after Friday’s display.

Over the many years on various forums, I've often seen withering references to the "Sheffield Mentality" which I've never really understood.

But fans of a club who have never played in European Competition arguing in favour of not playing in European Competition arguing whilst another thread asks "How far can we go under CWAK?"

Hmmmm, intriguing.

I can only speak for myself and not like yourself on behalf of everyone else, in saying no one wants it!!
If you do not aim high then all you will achieve is mediocrity. Perhaps we should have declined promotion to the Premier league as it was too early and we cannot afford the wages!
We dont try to win any of the cup competitions as it is so we are hardly likely to play our starting 11.
But to not try and finish as high up the table as you can in case you make progress is taking negativity to a new level.
We've done that before and all it ends in is a tour of the football league and flirting with financial issues.
Manage your resources and squad appropriately but at least aim high, otherwise it's just a losers mentality!! Incidentally Bolton overspent, not over tried. Big difference.
I am a bit worried though, that I'm the only one who follows the Blades and wants us to qualify for Europe, as you claim!!!

Did you mean to quote me as you're post seems to be referring to things I haven't said ?

I recall some fans saying they are not bothered about the prem and coming up with all sorts of reasons why
championship football was just fine.Unfortunately we won too many games and we had to adapt to life in the prem.
Putting up with European football is a consequence of winning.
If we qualify this year I guarantee everyone on here will experience a level of euphoria they never thought possible.
Success brings problems for sure but we would adapt just like we’ve adapted to the championship and now the prem.
Wilder will not stop untill he’s reached his full potential he’s not gonna throw matches so we can avoid European qualification if it happens he will have to lump it like the rest of us😁

I suggest you reread you post. Europa league, poisoned chalice that no one wants? Seems pretty clear to me?
You said you're the only blade who wants to qualify for Europe ( according to me ) I was talking about a wider context where none of the clubs outside the top six really want to finish in Europe as its not the prize it once was in fact its probably the dullest football tournament on earth and the prize money is pretty poor too

Not for me

Apologies what you meant was, what you dont want! Rather than no one wants?
No problems. Each to their own, but I'll be mightily disappointed if we secure Premier league status and then deliberately avoid winning any more games to ensure we avoid Europe qualification!

No what I meant was what I said in my last two posts if you want to keep twisting that to something else that's fine

Nobody really believes we’ll qualify for Europe. But by fuck......you’d take it with both hands if it actually happened?
I would, definitely.

The ‘problem’ with qualifying for the Europa League is that the money isn’t considered enough to cover the cost of the necessary squad strengthening. But, that doesn’t take into account our transfer policy and our ability to find good value for money.

If we're to make Europe, it's more likely to be through Man City winning the league cup and then seeing how the FA Cup pans out. Seeing us in Europe would be immense.

If the club qualifies, it places greater demands on the club, the management and the players. If the club qualifies, we have to pay for travel and other extra costs, even if we cant, or don’t want to compete because our squad is too small, thin or lightweight for the demands of european football.
To do it justice, needs a bigger squad, higher wages, and a better stadium and facilities all round.
I would rather take advantage of a lighter load fixtures wise, and do what we have this season, and over achieved.
Qualify and rotate first team players, risk injury and burn out?
No thanks. Let’s grow sustainably, over time, entering competitions when we can afford to enjoy the experience, from a position of strength. In a few years time, when we are established in the PL with a bigger, stronger squad.
Right now, we are punching above our weight, in the best league in the world. Please don’t expect too much from a side that has already over achieved.
Better to be patient, than blow our premier status for a season in a minor euro comp.

Yeah but we’re already gonna have to spend money to stay in the most competitive league in the world.

I have had fifty years+ of patience and never got remotely close to qualifying since the 70's.
As there are no guarantees that we will ever achieve Europe or indeed remain in the Premier League. This could be the closest this time. Do we, hopefully on maintaining our status, just stop trying in case we over achieve further?
How many minimum games are there in, for I stance the Europa Cup? From comments,I'm guessing we are committed on qualification to a dozen or so?
I know another team in South Yorkshire and one in West who wouldn't think like that if they got the opportunity now!! The latter would not make the same mistake they did last time either!

Stop being ridiculous ,if we get enough points we will qualify no one is suggesting throwing away points
It's only older blades like yourself who still hark back to when the competition had some credibility who.want it anyway
Crowds would be lower than cup games

The only one being ridiculous is your good self!😊.
I've followed my team a long time as I hope you will do. Nothing wrong with wanting success. I just pray you do not have to keep waiting as long as we have. Or do the older fans not matter? I can only give you the wisdom of experience.

Do you really think that our first ever European game should it come to pass, would have less of an attendance than the first round Carabao cup?

Whilst I agree the competition is devalued and carries risk for an under-resourced club, the chance of playing AC Milan in the San Siro, or Valencia at the Mestalla... It’s dream stuff.
