Probably exactly the team and formation that I would have picked – so I can’t grumble there - we needed to find this way to get Sam and Harrison both in the side, but I would have liked H and Femi to be getting round the back more. Reasonable substitutions as well. Swansea are a decent side, who keep the ball for ever, so an away point there is always OK. However, another exciting high-scoring game – it was NOT. There was one deep corner that I really liked when Sam came piling in at the back post – it didn’t come to anything, but it gets him wide open when he has a running jump.
We actually won the xg match 1.75 to 0.64 – with 3 fairly high xg chances 0.75 for Pat on 72 minutes (xg reckons he touched that Seriki cross), 0.23 for McG on 60 – if he goes with his head I think he scores that - and 0.09 for Cal hitting the bar.
Turning to my graphs, remember that based on the last decade, I am taking a 92 points target for Automatics, a 70 points target for 8th (playoffs) and an 81 points target for 4th (playoff semis). I’m only showing the first 10 matches on the graphs at the moment, so that the difference between the lines is visible.
Graph 1 plots our progress against those promotion targets, with my forecast for each match that will deliver those targets. After two games, we are exactly on both playoffs lines and 2 behind the Automatics schedule.
Graph 1:

Graph 2 is the comparison with our last 2 seasons – and with 2 points we are steaming ahead of last season – as we had no points from our first 6 games (!) – and we are 2 points behind Wilder’s 92 point season in 24/25.
Graph 2:

I’m still optimistic that we will make the Top 8, as the real Coops is back, behind a decent back line, which will keep us in every game, and we are potentially Top 6 with a bit more creativity.
This Division, though, who had Charlton top equal after 2 games, having just won away at West Ham?!
League Table:

Another Welsh rarebit next week, against the Bluebirds rather than last week’s Bluenoses!
I’ve got it down as a draw in all 3 of my forecast lines – so maybe a chance to get ahead of schedule.
