When can we start talking about Europe?

Why not talk about it now, you're sitting in sixth. With your results so far, there is no real reason why you couldn't qualify, for probably the Europa or even higher..
However, a word of caution. Unless you're very lucky & unusual, it can SERIOUSLY f*ck the next season up.
It starts fairly early, July probably. It's very common to the start the PL season, already with injuries picked up from having a shorter Summer break & playing very competitive games when you'd usually be playing friendlies.
If you get through, you'll be playing quite a few weeks on Thursdays & Sundays; forget about Saturday kick offs for a while. It also takes its toll on the whole squad.
Obviously you'll be earning extra revenue but personally, I honestly think qualifying for it is a poisoned chalice.
Go for it though. If you get it you'll be delighted, if you don't, take some relief from this post!
Good post making some very relevant points.
Although Wolves are doing well in the Europa Cup it has impacted on their early Premier League form. Burnley were also adversely affected when they qualified.
Unless of course our owner celebrates our success by vastly strengthening our squad.

Wasting our breathe talking about Europe. Get real, focus on keeping out of the mini relegation league. If we had lost on Friday we would have been 1 more loss from being dragged into the bottom 8 with 4 of them below us having a game in hand.

We do not have the depth and quality to challenge at the moment. Be greatful of what we have achieved so far.

I totally understand the effect Europa League football could have on our squad and league form but would anyone seriously turn down the chance to play in Europe if we had earned it ? We, more than most, have had lenghty periods in the doldrums when the possibility of European football has been just a dream. If we do have a realistic opportunity in the run in, we have to seize it. It might not happen again.

Stay up and win the FA Cup. Then we're in the group stage. Qualify through league and we have qualify for the group.

Just imagine... winning the FA Cup (not the tin pot Rumbelows) and having at least 6 games in Europe (not against spora luxembourg). They'd have nothing to say anymore!

Not quite right.
If we finish 5th in the league, we’re straight through to the Group Stage.
Possibly 6th also depending on the FA Cup winners.

The group stage doesn’t start unitil mid-September.
It’s only if you finish as the lowest English qualifier that you start playing European matches in mid-July (as per Wolves and Burnley).

The assumption that the “big six” will take the top six places doesn’t apply anymore.
We’ve probably got as good a chance of finishing 5th (or 6th) as we have of winning the FA Cup.
No reason we shouldn’t be aiming to do both or better and looking forward to a European tour in the Autumn.

You try to finish as high in the league and possible so if that means we qualify for Europe, so be it and we give that a good go as well next season. If we got into Europe we’d obviously strengthen our squad, it’s not like we’d just stick with what we’ve got.

We should start playing the strongest team possible for the FA Cup, football is about winning trophies. So let’s prioritise the cup over the league, we’re a dead cert to stay up now anyway.

But just think, the postmen from Andorra, the bakers from San Marino. Fifty thousand of us at the San Siro. It’ll keep us in tall tales for years....
That's the only upside isn't it ? That we' d have it over them but I'd rather we just stay up for a decade or so
If we keep progressing as we have we will be in europe eventually but with a squad strong enough to cope
Having said all that I'd love to see how continental teams cope with our system and tactics

Exactly! Worry about the squad depth/fixture pile up when we get there.

I doubt Wolves fans were saying this last season. They’re loving it.

Plus the calibre of player we attract goes up a level with European football.

Watched sky back from Friday the Prince himself mentioned we are not ready for Europe.. I’m still dreaming, we should all be dreaming.
Realistically top 10 is win win, decent form going in to next season, enable a strong recruitment drive for the summer. Serious challenge for champions league place next season. UTB ⚔️
Can some one tell me if this all a dream or am I awake??

It has too many knock on effects. A bigger, stronger squad is needed, and that would mean club form, leading to more players selected for national teams. Money set aside for the academy or ground improvements diverted to playing staff
The priority is to maintain PL status first and foremost. We don’t need to see big transfers blowing the wage structure, just to end the season fighting relegation with a knackered squad?
I realise that is the worse case scenario, but I’ve been a blades fan way too long to have this special time spoiled by too much ambition too soon.
Like the ground improvements, the next level of footballing excellence will have to take a back seat to keeping our PL status.
Five years from now? Maybe.:)

Arsenal and Man Utd played only 6 extra games between mid-Sept and mid-Dec. They don’t start again now until mid-Feb.

Europa League qualification by finishing 5th or 6th isn’t the poisoned chalice / fixture pile-up it’s made out to be.

The thing is we could finish a nice comfortable 10th and still struggle next season. We might never get this high in the league ever again, so l say let’s go for it.
We’ve all watched the varying hues of shite over the last 40 odd years........ Where has all this cautious talk come from.

We can't afford Europe this season, aim for it next

Carpe Diem. Seize the day!!
The last time we were close to qualifying for Europe was nearly 50 years ago!! We thought we had arrived then and look how the interim period has panned out. I cant afford to wait another 50 in the hope we make Europe.
Some said we couldn't really afford to get promoted last year!! Its been a present surprise so far.
Be adventurous, be humble and take your chances.

Just think of the quality of player we could attract in the summer if we qualify for Europe. Maybe not top top players, but it would add a lot of weight if we were competing for a player with the likes of Southampton, West Ham, Brighton and dare I say it Leeds

We get in to Europe we strengthen the squad. Simple. More money will be rolling in through prize money and sponsorships to enable this.

I can't believe some are turning their nose up at the chance. There's no wonder we've been shit for years

Hope Brexit leads to a strong pound if our team makes Europe.

My wallet is gonna get a serious “pounding “ (🤣sorry !) if I’ve got to pay for my European tour alongside my 2 lads !!

No competition anyway from 3 championship teams listed there next season 🤣

I honestly dont think the prince or the staff want it yet. Be to much trouble, more players to buy and alot more to arrange for the coming months. I dont think the Prince has a massive amount of money

I can't believe how ignorant some people are and have no.understanding of sports science ,our pressing game and the fact our fixture list has helped us stay almost injury free

No wonder we've been shit for years

Completely missed the point of my post.

Fortunately you can guarantee Chris will be putting the chance to play in Europe for the first time in the club's entire history above sports science

Apologies if I've misunderstood this post? It does however read as, "Let's try and be a little bit successful, but we cannot afford to be too successful"!
That attitude is why we will always remain tryers with a bit of novelty, but ultimately destined for relegation!!
I dont want us to live beyond our means, but at least let's make the effort on the field and see where it takes us!!
UTB.
