VAR ruled this offside...

For me.. it’s not the tech, millimetres this way or that, it’s the principle of ruining the game. Players and fans unable to celebrate instantaneously? Eh?

Guess what? Referees and their assistants make good and bad decisions. Why do we now have to sit on our hands while some further official brings out the ruler? Why?

TV, that’s why. The only proponents of this shitshow are TV “fans” and a decreasing amount of media types.

Bollox is what VAR is, I’ve been at least consistent with this subject on the Forum.

No it's not TV either. Managers have brought this on themselves with their incessant post match criticism of refs. We can all think of someone dear to all our hearts but they've always been practically all at it.

They're the ones who started the "it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as it's right" shite.

Well. now they've got what they wanted and it turns out, as expected, to be worse than not having it all.

TV pundits - ex players who've "played the game" you know - have egged managers on demanding this, but they get to talk about contentious decisions regardless of whether VAR exists or not.

Don't blame TV companies this time.

VAR hasn’t given us anything to talk about then? 😂

It certainly has, especially TV fans. It’s also created a situation where fans wait in a stadium for 3mins 20secs for a decision and where players no longer celebrate goals.

😂indeed. VAR and it’s proponents sat on their sofa are the joke though.

To me they should just stop the clock like in Rugby and show the replays in the stadium.

It’s the first season of VAR, it’s bound to evolve and improve over the next few years.
Hopefully it won't last long enough to evolve. Stopping the clock doesn't solve the issues. If they stopped it today we still would have had to wait 4 mins for that wrong decision.

I was for VAR, and technology use in the game. Mainly to stop incidents like Lampard's "goal" vs Germany and Thierry Henry's handball vs Ireland, the really massive decisions that were just wrong and a video check would have meant they got it right.

It's supposed to stop howlers, in many sports they've got it right - Tennis, Cricket, NFL, the games are improved by technology, there are debates, but generally they get more important decisions right in those sports.

But this implementation of VAR in the premier league is so utterly shite that I'm just in favour of getting rid full stop at this point. You simply cannot say for these offsides definitively one way or the other as the frame rates and camera angles aren't up to the job, to make call on millimetres like this But for some utterly ridiculous reason it's been adopted like this in the premier league instead of using it to just overturning clearly incorrect decisions.

Decisions like that one will end up costing someone relegation and million and millions of pounds.

Had enough, get RID.

Todays game was live across the world, the players and management really presented us to a wide audience with the never say die attitude, good play, and resiliance in coming back from a heavy VAR decision against to get a result. Think a lot of people across the footballworld took us to their hearts today. Great advert , and actually our best awayperformance . Surely some newborn blades coming to town from abroad soon. Fans amazing aswell. Downhearted after a draw at Spurs, watched the game live from Norway, pundits so impressed with us playwise and tactically. UTB

So what’s the answer? Scrap it completely?

So it’s good for Lampard and Henry, but not for us today?

It’s just added a new layer of incompetence to football officialdom but this has a real impact on fans and players.

But the media and TV fans love it, and they’re the ones paying the cash.

If it wasn’t for the Blades* I’d be off to non league.

*its all about the Blades though.

In tennis they have millimetre perfect cameras and can recreate the balls flight and impact but the biggest football league in the world can't get camera angles from along the sidelines only from the middle of the pitch angled.
Then they rely on a 57 year old assistant referee to draw angled lines to decide.

They should have an independant body to rule VAR these refs are making the same poor decisions as they make on the field every week.

It will kick off at some point in a stadium, couple of deaths and the families will sue VAR like the family sueing over smart motorways and it will be gone.

Because they were clear errors. That is not. Same as Firminio the other day.

Our ability to recover from that is fantastic, a real measure of the team and our attitude!
I think that’s something we’ve grown into as the seasons gone on. We didn’t panic at all today. Even at 1-0 down and a VAR decision against us, we continued in the way we’d played all game.

It was just an example of how VAR can be exploited... play on and let VAR make the decision

Speaking of exploiting VAR, would Lundstram have been given offside had he been wearing black boots? I’m sure wearing bright yellow boots made his feet appear bigger.

Can someone explain please?

The Spurs defender's head and shoulder are ahead of Lundstram's toe, and both are points of the body able to legally touch the ball.

When did offside become about the foot on the floor only? Linesmen aren't looking for that and never have. Impossible.

Letter of the law - correct...

but when it takes nearly 4 mins you’ve killed both sides momentum

VAR is not for me
It's not correct though is it ?
Diers shoulder is beyond lundstrams foot or any other part of his body
The ball hasn't left the players foot yet
Plus the lines aren't parallel with the penalty area
The ball was touched by a defender so should have been reset and the system is not accurate enough to be able to make that decision

Refs have been making mistakes since the laws were first written, so how is VAR making that any different?

Because VAR takes five minutes to come up with a decision that's no better than the ref could make at the blow of a whistle.

Literally the whole point is that it's meant to make things BETTER. Not for us to shrug and say "Well, it's the same as a ref".

No they haven't. And no they can't. But everyone's fallen obediently and unquestioningly into line.
