Pick An Ex-Player

Players that we have owned and have played for us this millennium, you can’t look beyond Iliman. A generational talent and match winner. Prior to that, I’d take McGrath as I’m too young (just!) to have seen TC and his cohort. McGrath only played a handful of games for us when his knees were shot and he couldn’t even train but I loved watching him, an absolute Rolls Royce of a player.

David Brooks. Now captain of Bournemouth, lying second in the PL.

Hamer is nowhere near those two. He's inferior at dribbling, ball control, passing and tackling. As for the physical and mental aspects of the game, such as fitness, stamina, dedication and determination then he's even further behind. By a long way.i
It's not really a fair comparison though, I just picked the comparison because the majority of our attacks go through Gus but he's a different player to those two. I'm not saying he's as good as Ndiaye but they're both (were) our most creative players .

I'd argue Gus' set pieces are better but other than that he isn't, and never was destined to be. I get the feeling with Gus' he hasn't evolved into the player he could be capable of being if he has a better work ethic. He's got bags of ability.

The romanticism around Hamer is staggering. He's not in the same galaxy as Ndiaye or Gibbs-White.
I don't think anyone in their right mind would dispute that, but those two were rare talents, Ndiaye especially and now Gus is our most creative and has a match winning moment in his locker.

Hamer is a brilliant player. I don't understand the hate he gets, yes he's not perfect but that's why he plays for Sheffield United not Real Madrid.

My Mrs takes a vague interest in Footy and she frequent comments that Hamer is the only one trying. If she can see if, why can't some of our fans. It baffles me and if I'm honest it annoy's me. I would much prefer we collectively get behind the lads, support the player's now rather than comparing them to former or other teams players

For balance, we're on a thread asking for ex-players who we would drop into the current team. I've not gone out of my way to dig Hamer out and don't have any hate for him. I was merely pointing out that holding him in the same regard as MGW and Ndiaye is way off.

He's obviously the player in our current squad most capable of producing match winning moments.

I also think he's capable of looking absolutely dire when he's so inclined. He's not very dynamic and has become really predictable. He's also a walking yellow card.

Nobody can single-handedly lift us on their own and that's not the expectation, but it's not too much to hope for the division's Player of the Season to produce something in times of adversity.

Like I said, I have no hate for him at all. He's simply a very frustrating player because he's capable of a lot more than he delivers.

Lys Mousset, if 3 weeks of one season counts as a "peak"
