Unpopular opinion: the celebrations were a bit OTT

Nope, just sticking to my original position.

The person posting the same point on social media to which I referred had over 2,400 people agreeing with them.

As I said in the OP, yes celebrate but there is something called moderation, being a bit humble and recognizing that it was not a derby played in normal circumstances. The photo was OTT- it’s not a crime and I'm not castigating anyone for it, just saying that it was a bit much.
I think you might be putting a bit too much thought into what a ‘like’ on Twitter means.

How many of those likes were from pigs or fans of clubs who have a dislike for the Blades? People may have read that post with a preconceived idea about us and liked it as a result of that.

Even if 90% of those likes are from bots, trolls and SWFC fans, that 10% is double the amount of those expressing with disagreement with the point on here.

By your same logic, a huge amount/all of those disagreeing with the OP here have a like for the Blades:)

No not at all, I was taking other people's arguments to their logical conclusion. The match over the weekend was not a normal one played under normal circumstances and it would be churlish to suggest otherwise. The fact that we were only two points ahead of them is to our shame, and our poor season is why our previous manager was sacked after only 6 games.

We should have been comfortable favourites, and we won comfortably. Yes we can celebrate, but 'great achievement' it is not.

ReeceofBDTBL many neutral football fans had the same reaction to this, you can disagree with them for sure or don't care for sure but doesn't mean the view isn't well founded or sincere:

The guy that runs that page is a wednesday fan btw, this is known and eye poppingly obvious if you take a look at all the other posts from this page relating to the pigs.

And again, strip all the other context away, its just a photo for the biggest win over our rivals in 70 years.

So we should discount Blades fans who make the opposite point by that logic?

Also, it depends how you define 'biggest win'. The 2017 match was a bigger win imho.

If you are going on the scores, would you say beating Man United 4-0 now is a bigger win than beating them 1-0 in 1999?

Agree with much of the above, but two things can true at the same time- imho it was ott to take a team photo like we did, though I accept and respect the majority on here don't agree.

Personally I would like to reach a stage of us being indifferent to them “The opposite of love isn’t hate; it’s complete and utter indifference.”

That's how Man U were towards Man City for decades- indifference is the greatest insult there can be.

What a child Neville was, and still is!

So its okay when another club does it? Just not one you support.

It was OTT when Newcastle did it. This is why Sunderland did it today to take the mick out of them, so was quite funny, but still a little OTT but I doubt they care.

It was also OTT when we did it imho but know others disagree, c'est la vie.

The point being that our celebrations then were OTT as SWFC are bottom of the league, on minus points and are in administration.

Newcastle are a champions league club.

It was more of an achievement for Sunderland to beat them today than it was for us to beat SWFC a few games ago.

As you can see, I didn't bump this thread up, someone else did to call me out and I responded. That's what a forum is.

You do know that it isn't internet law, that you HAVE to reply, don't you?

FFS man, just accept you misread the mood.

Most people might see 6 pages of being told you are a tit, is a bit of a sign, but please feel free to come back and re-re-explain why you were right all along.

FFS man, I accepted in the OP that my opinion would be unpopular. That's what a forum is, for a range of views not just for ones that are in tune with 'the mood'.

Tbh I didn't do it to call you out personally. This was just as much about all those social media accounts and users who criticised our celebrations. This just happened to be the thread I remembered 🤷‍♂️

Fair enough and thank you for clarifying, I should have said 'call out this school of thought/argument'.

As stated above this is a case of 'agree to disagree' where I'm in the 5-10% of Blade fans who thinks the team photo was a bit OTT- c'est la vie.

SWFC could be bottom of the NCEL division one, on minus points and I’d still celebrate us beating them.

The point of beating your rivals - however good or shit they are at the time, is that you can spend some time rubbing their faces in it, so I hope we continue to do ‘OTT’ celebrations every time we beat them

Celebrating a 0-0 by chucking shirts into the away end was OTT. You could argue that we’re just taking the mick using that logic.

So you think the players celebrations were over the top. You said that fans should be allowed to celebrate like that, but players and staff shouldn't.

But then you also feel it's acceptable for a player to refuse a handshake with a former teammate because he now plays for their rivals?

I'm not sure you really know what your viewpoint is anymore.

I 100% agree with your point of wanting to be indifferent to them. County to Forest. Bristol Rovers to City. That would be amazing... but, if we beat them in a cup game, i'd still celebrate

Wonder if Sunderland will get the "tinpot", "celebrating like they won the cup" treatment?

Just beat your neighbour who are the richest club in the world who play champions league football
Or
Just beat your neighbour who are the poorest club in the football league who really are so poor on the pitch they’d struggle in league one

Unbelievable how many Blades have fallen for piggy propaganda.

Unbelievable how many Blades have fallen for piggy propaganda.

Just because they say something doesn't mean its automatically wrong because of who they support.

As has been established earlier, it wasn't just them who had the same reaction.
