Unpopular opinion: the celebrations were a bit OTT

just sour grapes im afraid especially after the vile chants and objects being thrown at our players which they need fining for just a pity 29k of their fans wernt still in the ground to see it were getting all this nonsense from them now about once the new owners come in they will be back but theyve only got to look at us to realise a takeover doesnt gaurantee instant success i just hope our 30k fans in the return fixture give wednesday's players as much hostility as they did to our lads on sunday utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

Having watched the vlogs from their stands, then I am glad we milked the fuck out of it at the end.

It wasn't just a minority of fans singing those chants either. Plus the alleged racism from a couple of them as well.

While pig fans are a set of bellends. I’ve also heard Blades fans singing “die die piggy” as well. So it’s not worth getting all righteous about it. I don’t genuinely think people want opposition players to die, it’s just a song.

Both teams have idiots amongst their supporters, it’s nuts to claim otherwise.

Back to the OP, we absolutely didn’t over celebrate, they have a particularly high opinion of themselves as a club, we’d just battered them.

I live amongst the insufferable fuckers out here in Oughtibridge. There is absolutely no way I'm doing anything other than celebrating it loud and long. And I'll be doing it for quite a few weeks yet.
Hope you strutted into Cock Inn with a big smile.

Used to be my stomping ground so know a fair few pigs in there

Thinking about it, perhaps I am just a bit stuck in the past, although I am consistent regarding other sports/contexts so this isn't a particular dig at SUFC- hence the reference to Kean's comments on Villa.

For example I loved England winning the 2005 Ashes but thought the open tour bus parade and Flintoff getting smashed and the squad being given MBEs was OTT.

We all remember what happened next:

If Australia had gone 30 years without winning the Ashes and then won them at last I'm sure they wouldn't have done the same thing.

Would we have taken team photos 20-30 years ago after beating a bankrupt SWFC 3-0 like the way did on the weekend? I'd suspect not, the times have changed so I have to accept that.

Edit: again to be clear for those who haven't seen all the posts here- I'm specifically referring to the players and management, no objection at all to how we as fans have acted *unless anyone did anything silly with a flare!

They can shrug their shoulders all they like. But that defeat was still a kick in the guts for them.

Can I just ask if you think there is ever an appropriate time for players to celebrate?

England players over did the ashes celebrations in 2005?! I’m aware that’s probably bait, and I’m biting but come on. We’d not won for ages and the ashes is pretty much the biggest thing an English cricketer can win.

If they can’t celebrate winning the ashes, when can they?

Ah no, respectfully you (and indeed many others) have misunderstood me- nowhere did I suggest they can't celebrate, I just think its there is a thing called moderation and it can get OTT.

For example the same thing was said when clubs would put out DVDs when they beat their rivals in a normal league game, if we did the same that would fall into that category.

Yes, cheer, applaud the fans etc. but taking photos like we won a trophy is a bit much.

Edit: With the Ashes there's a whole interesting discussion on that which probably shouldn't go here (though I appreciate I started it), let's just say I doubt the Aussies would have done the same thing had the roles been reversed.

End of the day before the match I wasnt confident of getting a result thought at best we might win 1 nil remember they have got draws at birmingham norwich beat portsmouth drew at west brom and generally as a team shown more fight than us . I actually ended up being disapoinymted in the end to not win by more and im still buzzing now im going to enjoy it because whats the point in supporting a team if you cant enjoy beating youre rivals id hate to have fans that just take every win for granted

‘Taking photos like we won a trophy is a bit much’. We may never win another trophy. We have just beaten our bitter city rivals stretching back well over 100 years by a record away margin. These players have achieved something that Blades players over decades have never ever done. We are not your Manchesters, Liverpool, London clubs and never will be a ‘tourist’ supported club. I don’t give a shit whether that is being parochial or lacking ambition. I love seeing players who represent OUR CLUB celebrate however they want- Wilder isn’t forcing them to take photos or stay on the pitch - they obviously felt they wanted to do this and as history makers, why the hell not???

On reflection I think staying on the pitch that long was a blessing in disguise. Prior to the match we were asked to stay in our seats until the Wed fans had left.
I didn't hear any announcement to that effect at the end of the match and if our players had left the pitch more quickly, our fans would have left their seats and been trapped in that dreadful concourse.
It was crowded enough prior to the game starting but could have been much worse later!
