Slightly less brief summary again for anyone interested. Paraphrased. A lot to unpack in that one and fair play to Rob Staton, a bit more probing than the usual. For completeness have pasted in the bit at the end that I posted earlier elsewhere.
- What are your thoughts a couple of days on from Fleetwood?
really disappointing night for everybody, most importantly the supporters,we let them down so I've got to take responsibility for that
players let themselves down first and foremost, Players had opportunities to push themselves into my thought process and and didn't
even if we'd have been top of the division and won every game I would have still been talking about the the schedule
wanted ti be in next round. a few of those players and some that played on Saturday took a backward step and gave me clarity as well that who I can really trust
fifteen minutes from half time to sixty we were comfortable in the game, we were sparring weren't outstanding but but we were comfortable
what really annoyed and disappointed me was the fifteen minutes that gave them the boost, then when we got the big hitters on with twenty minutes to go the tide of the game turned and we should get something from it
ultimately it wasn't good enough and every criticism that I receive I will take
- Had a few questions from fans that wanted us to put to you
- why go with a 4-4-2 in that game and and typically why 4-4-2 when you've utilised that system?
We flip. The game's changing Rob so the build is with the ball. We built in a three, Matt Doherty wasn't on the right wing
.We built in a four. Romelle right wide RND wide that's a five.
We pressed in a 4-4-2 because that was the best pressing shape to play against the team we were playing against, we played the same shape when we beat Mansfield and Blackburn
it was the attitude that was disappointing, wasn't really the shape
said at half time that we needed to up our game and we didn't, gave them energy because we were second to the ball. The back three, the back four were too deep. We allowed them to cross it. We didn't get out. We didn't track corner runs and allowed the ball to come into our box. And we defended really poorly
We get done on a first contact in the box which is ridiculous, Rhys is in a poor position and it's a ridiculous own goal. Then they smell blood we're on the back foot.
missing talented wing backs full backs in Harrison and Femi and two forward players that take us up the pitch
- A lot of fans mentioned lot of sideways backwards passing in the game, was that by design
No I thought the front the front two, movement wasn't, wasn't wasn't good enough. T They were a rigid five at the back so can't just whack it up to centre forwads
we had opportunities where we could slide players in and we and we didn't
we have to we have to spot those times where we have to risk I get that but we did enough first half to get us to get us into the lead
- The lack of movement up front was something else that came up,have they just got to work harder in that situation? Have they just got to offer you more up there?
yeah and they understand that - front two were poor on the night ,the midfield two were poor and they're better than that
couldn't start Pat because he's got a situation, couldn't start Liam Kitchen because he's got an issue/had an issue
could have gone full hit but then who am I plaing Satdi morning
- A lot of talk about Tyrese Campbell, didn't have the best pre-season,then gets a new contract, a very quiet start to the season since, what's your take on Campbell at the moment?
Has to do more - they're the internal discussions that we that we're talking about
if he wants to force his way into the team , the Joe Rothwells and the Jairos and other players that had opportunities on Wednesday night they need to take those opportunities
- A lot of people did ask about this - why straight down the tunnel after the game?
I've done that a few times I think sometimes no need for confrontation. There's times where we win I go down the tunnel. There's times where we win I go over to fans and and show my support.
on Wednesday night I just didn't think there was there was any gain on it.
I don't think I need to justify my relationship with the supporters as well ... I'll take that whether it's on social media or people in the street .. I don't think I need to do that over ten years I think there's been enough games there where I've put myself on on offer and accepted criticism and accepted a a a performance hasn't been good enough.

I'm quite a confrontational person as well and reactive person so maybe sometimes taking myself out of the situation
- think I saw a stat yesterday that you've lost about seventy percent of goals or goal contributions from last year
and then you look at XG I think you're in the bottom five according to Opta for XG, but also among the worst for XG against, so far. How do you, how do you put that right?
It's amazing, you guys, ... last year when we were really unlucky nobody said a word did ya? You didn't come up with all these XG stuff did ya about how unlucky we were and where we should finish. So we did an internal review with with a company that we use that we pay quite a lot of money. They basically put us as one of the most unluckiest teams in the division And we should have been in the top six.
Would I like those stats to improve? Yeah, one hundred percent but we're a seventh of the season in. I'm looking at all city Are they really bothered about XG at the moment sat in the Premier League?
O'Hare, Hamer and Brooks, gone, bedding in time for Jordan Ayew, BBD and others. Missing Chong, bedding in time for Donovan young kid, missing Chong, missing Ryan One.Tyrese Campbell, not up to speed agreed. Tom Cannon, up and down. Kalvin Phillips, just coming into the team. Then we talk about Femi Seriki and Harrison Burrows, your contributors. Kitching and Choudhury just come into the building.
Judge the team at xmas time.
- What kind of a test will Stoke provide?
A tough test. Teams without parachute payments spending big. Stoke have not set a foot one foot one minute in the Premier League in the last ten years and you've seen the investment they made this summer. Boro same -p but well, sell well, invested again.
Our remit was take the wage bill down and to raise some money. Don't think speaking to the ownerthat this will happen every year, can't happen,can't keep selling and selling,have to invest. Trying to get to January. The sale that hurts was the Callum one.
Stoke are a good side, dread to think what they spent last 10 years. Good manager now. Brought 11 in we let 20 go. I like the manager ,good thatthey've had some good results recently, in a good position I should imagine mentally and so are we
because of what happened last sunday and I'm expecting us to to carry that forward on on on saturday.
- Is there a possibility that when you get to January this club could be in a a different position maybe financially to do stuff?
One hundred percent - sometimes you have to do something on short term basis - can't keep selling players can ya cause you're not gonna have anything left . So the owners understand that there's gonna be a time where we have to start investing in players.
Said this to the owners , I don't like people thinking it, I'm never against signing players from from abroad.I just think this culture, this football club, is an Everton under David Moyes. When he signed top championship players for the Premier League signed Jags, he signed Tim Cahill he signed all those other players that pushed them towards the position where they were comfortable in the Premier League .
For me, always understanding the culture, British-based players ideally out of League One and maybe out of League Two and out of Scotland or Scandinavia that have got that mentality, that work ethic that suits us suits me.. or maybe suits the next manager, which I think that there might be a few at the moment would rather be coming in pretty quickly, quicker than maybe it might happen
