I'd knock him out for leading us to the worst ever PL start and steal his face Mission Impossible style so I could right his wrongs
I'd prefer if you used one of those face changing devices on Total Recall (original I haven't seen the remake).
'So Chris, when do you expect the next win?'
'2 weeks.'
'Not Man Utd then but Brighton, that's understandable any message for the fans going into Christmas?'
'2 weeks...2 weeks...#unintelligible'

My question has probably been covered by other people's questions already but I saw these responses and my immediate thought was, "you'd consider what those people telling you how to do your job were saying though". If it took a moment or an hour to think about what they had said you'd still do it before making a decision.
I would depend if they were qualified. Me, as a bloke who's played football and coaches at U9's would not consider myself qualified to advise Wilder on what he needs to do to sort out this shitshow of a season.

I would absolutely consider what they were saying if those people had either a medical/nursing degree or other healthcare professional degrees.
otherwise no.
Really? That is probably the worst argument for dismissing anybody's opinion ever, and from my own point of view I hold no medical qualifications but I have saved somebody's life by applying first aid. Using your argument I should've just let the guy bleed out in his car.

Would you not have advised Nigel Adkins to stop selecting Dean Hammond if you had the chance? Would you consider yourself unqualified to do so?

I could have advised him but I'm pretty sure Nige would have not listened to me anyway, if a peer in the game had told him it might have more sway.

Our season needs more than first aid, a lobotomy might work.

Again another person taking an argument to the extreme.
If you offered me uninformed advice about anything medical that I knew to be wrong then I would absolutely not listen to you.
as I’ve said regarding CW I can offer him uniformed opinions based on the what I can see and the fact I used to kick a ball. I would expect CW to use his informed knowledge to tell me the reasons why my opinion is just.... an opinion.
can you imagine how unproductive it would be if I stood there and listened to the opinions of every person in a hospital before making a decision. Or shall CW stand outside BL whilst 100s of thousands of fans give him their opinions. Seem silly.

You have lost track of what the original thread was about.
I have said I would not offer an opinion to CW as it would be uninformed. And as an adult I know I know fuck all about football management so therefore would keep my opinion to myself. As I don’t have that level of arrogance.
that doesn’t mean to say I don’t have an opinion (which I do). But I’m a grown up and realise that I don’t have to give an opinion about everything in the world.

I'd probably want explanations of all the signings he's made to "improve" us and i'll advise why signing crap won't improve you

To everybody saying that people are not qualified to give advice to the manager on this subject (or to anybody on subjects on which they do not hold qualifications) let me introduce you to the 'X' annotation. When I worked for the military (it's been a while now I don't know if they have continued with this) there were 2 annotations you could get on your record 'Q' and 'X'.
A 'Q' annotation would in this example be a coaching badge, any academic qualification where you were instructed and tested on the subject matter.
An 'X' annotation would be given to somebody who had a lot of experience with the subject matter, watching and seeing how things worked what things worked etc without having taken a formal exam on it. To try and make this clearer an obvious example of somebody who would be 'X' annotated (and not wanting to pull him into the argument) would be somebody like Ball_Sup.
Now I'm not expecting anybody to accept this approach but think about it.

As someone who took Wycombe to a champions league final on football manager for the atari St 20 odd years ago, (after getting back to back promotions) I feel more than qualified to advise him. Also they sacked me the following season so I've experienced what wilder is going through at the moment, albeit my achievements were on a slightly higher level...

If you read this Chris get in touch!!

I would want all staff and players in the dressing room before I deliver an interpretive dance to remind them of how TO PASS THE FUCKING BALL.

The dressing room is really small by modern standards, your dance would have to be quite well contained. I do think there is something in Chris doing something quite radical to change the mindset. How about:
  • Christmas party, compulsory santa costume/christmas jumpers
  • Nigel Adkins style goose powerpoint presentation
  • Massively increase the win and goal bonuses
  • Bring in drinking game punishments for any players recieving less than a 7/10 from deadbats ratings
  • Offer Lunny a much better contract
  • Get Alan Knill's eagle in to oversee training sessions
  • Install thousands of loudspeakers at Bramall Lane live stream linked to S2 4SU users laptop microphones etc so they can pipe realtime abuse/chanting into the ground
  • Parachute jump/abseil off the south stand
  • Overnight orienteering in the peak district
  • Watch the promotion videos on repeat before the games
  • Make them sing a song that they have made up

I’m a very big fan of this one. 😂😂😂

That’s fine and I’m not saying that as football fans we are clueless about football and shouldn’t be listened to (although some clearly are and shouldn’t 😂), it’s obvious that something is wrong and that something needs to be done. I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving advice based on my FA Level 1 coaching badge though and wouldn’t expect an experienced manager to do anything other than pay lip service to my advice.

Samuel Johnson got this about right, I reckon:

“You may scold a carpenter who has made you a bad table, though you cannot make a table. It is not your trade to make tables.”

It‘s not my job to manage Sheffield United, but I can offer criticism of the person who is currently managing them badly. Doesn’t mean I wanted Allardyce or I think Wilder should be sacked, or even that he’d give two shits about what I think, but I’m perfectly entitled to criticise him.

Managers and players come and go Fans last a lifetime. I have more right to a say than any of the players, directors, coaching staff or manager.

this is our club that we actually pay to watch and if asked would play for free.

so yes I would give my thoughts no problem and without expectation of recrimination.

I told Harry Haslam exactly that in a somewhat heated conversation with him and John Hassall after an embarrassing home defeat , mainly down to poor team selection .

He kept referring to us as ‘my club’ and after about the fourth time , I said to him “ It’s not your bloody club , it’s my club and that of thousands like me who were here a long time before you came and will be here a long time after you’re gone .”

To be fair , he went silent for a moment and then said “ I can’t argue with that .”

Wilder did listen to you all last week and gave way to your expert opinions by playing Billy Sharp.

That worked out well.

Despite all the bollox about whether any of us have any idea what we're talking about because we've never managed a professional football team or something, the uncomfortable truth is that if one of us cunts had been in charge all season, it's unlikely that we'd be doing worse.

I'd like to ask him WTF he see's in training to keep picking Lowe and just why Jags, Rodwell etc are still at the club.

I'd tell him advice, and a wise person would be open to change and listening to others.
Anyone who thinks they've made it, and don't need to listen to others, even outside of their profession, sets themselves up to fall.

That’s it 100% right ... at least he had mentality to appreciate you were right

When you break the all time PL record for the least number of passes ( previous holders Sheffield United ) , it’s hardly surprising that neither of the strikers exactly had a field day .

Drop Berge and Back to the original mid and get the Brewster and Moose up top!

yeah, decent shout, could bring Berge on as a sub striker I reckon. Calm finisher, strong on the ball, decent close control, decent crossing, makes good darting runs. Downside is not great in air or mega fast but worth a look I reckon

1 point worse off 😆 😆

I’d ask for his autograph then when he signed my paper I’d go cheers Chris that’s your resignation signed.

Now quick get big Sam in.
