Our players’ reaction to Wilder coming back

Does Wilder rate Seriki?

He played Gilchrist, Clarke and Choudhury ahead of him last season.
I think he does, however, you make a fair point.

Wilder seemed to be wedded to the 4 at the back system last season, hence his decision to play a more defensive player at RB. With the make-up of the squad this season (Many Centre-halfs and poor wingers) I would expect him to revert to playing a wingback system - Seriki and Burrows look ideal for this. Wilder did use Seriki as a impact sub last season when things weren't going well (Swansea, away), but obviously as we were winning most weeks, he wasn't needed so much.

Femi played loads last season under CW. It was the post season he didn't really get a look in.

Bogle was more or less ever present wasn't he? Not sure on the comparison.

One things for sure, Selles wasn't having him, so he should be optimistic of more minutes.
Seriki only made 8 Championship starts last season under Wilder, coming on as a sub in a further 17 matches (in 5 of which he was a half time sub). He missed 20 games through injury including most of December, January and February.

It's fair to say that he was rotation at best last season and I'd hazard a guess it was because Wilder mk2 wasn't convinced by his defensive capability.

Seriki is another one who struggles to last 90 mins. A very dodgy defender, potentially a PL player going forward, but plagued by injuries. Put that all together and you've got a player who is best suited to be an impact sub if you are chasing a game - that is more or less how Wilder used him last season. Think Tufty perhaps has a tad more nouse than we punters!

Pecks probably happy he’s not being expected to do the basics. Campbells probably happy he’s not going to be expected to play more than an hour a game.
Perhaps Campbell really is unable to play more than 60 mins at full throttle but is far more effective that time rather than 90.
That said it's now become a 16 man game in any event - with mainly strikers and the attacking midfielders being replaced.
His starting 11 and use of subs will be interesting
Also just a thought, the Seles spell may well have given the players some fresh/new ideas that Wilder could utilise. (And I dont mean getting used to losing).

I know that mate, definitely rotation, still played loads.

For context on somebody who has more reason to be glum:

Andre Brooks played about 100 minutes more than Seriki last year - but was available for what - 20 games more.

^ level of minutes are what I'd consider "doesn't really fancy". Especially when you see how they were used towards the season end.

I'd like to see Femi more like, but I don't think he didn't get minutes.

Selles problem (amongst many) is that he came across as far too serious and completely joyless. Chuck in some confusing instructions and it was always going to be a shit storm.

You can just tell already that the players are pleased to see CW and the squad togetherness will be a strength again with fun training sessions (with the expectation that everyone works hard and plays hard). Footballers like any employees react to a gaffer who has personality and who leads from the top so has their respect. Wilder and RS are like chalk and cheese.

Surely you want a manager that can work with and improve players coming through the ranks? Not bomb out youth players at the first opportunity.

I don't see youth players being bombed out at the first opportunity.

And I definitely want a manager to improve the players coming through 100%

Yeah, ultimately going from Wilder to Selles probably was too much of a radical change. I don't think Selles as a coach is as bad as his record here suggests. After that first loss against Bristol City it all just kind of snowballed and he and the player didn't seem to see eye to eye anymore at some point. The way Robinson's time here ended is probably the most extreme example for that.

I wish the club would've found a middle ground. A modern football type of manager who also has the ability to include the emotional aspects. But it is Wilder now, so we have to just hope for the best.

Doesn't sound like he's going 3 at the back unless he was being deliberately misleading.
I have a feeling we will stumble on it sooner or later. Unless Chong and ogbene are huge successes I don't think we have the wide players for it and I don't think we have the depth upfront for 4 4 2 right now
