This season's budget

It really needs a few more to go but I agree with what you say if those 7 stick with us. The Board can pay them off by negotiating a settlement of their contracts and treating that as a one-off expense to leave Wilder a fine edge to start with. They'd have to write off the costs and at the same time maintain Wilder with a budget in the region of £4m plus.

To be fair, if the Board grew a pair and negotiated a settlement with any of the listed players who we don't end up selling ( and lets be realistic, who is going to pay good money for any of that lot) ...... and allowed Tufty a wages budget of around £4.5m or so plus £1.5m in transfer fees, then we would have a good chance of getting promoted this year, I believe.

The problem is that our Board members know f**k all about football and don't learn from their many and frequent mistakes.

I'm quite concerned that a lot of fans are going to have their bonfires pissed on and that the Club will make another balls up of this pre-season opportunity to rebuild. :(

We paid the highest wages in league one .considering the planks we were paying Id say we are very generous

I would suggest that they are just stupid tbh !!

We may have the biggest wages budget in the Division last year but we spent f**k all on new players that were needed to replace the crap that was accumulated by gross incompetence ......

With last year's wages budget, spent wisely, we would have been very competitive indeed in this agricultural Division ..... instead we splash most of it on a midfield player who's legs have gone and a "striker" who couldn't score in a Dutch brothel with 10,000Euros stuffed in his wallet ..... o_O

£4.5m plus £1.5m is £6m in total and way more than Wilder should need to get the job done. The Board would also have the cost of settling with the departing players, way too much on top of £6m. That's more than growing a pair, it's fantasy football.

I prefer to think of it as the Board's way of offering their unreserved apologies to the long-suffering supporters of this Club, for the shit, concern, embarrassment, upset, frustration, anger and let-downs that we've been forced to endure in our self-imposed exile caused by incompetence, stupidity, bad decision-making and poor communication at the highest levels of the Club .........

They owe us BIG style .... we have delivered, they haven't ...... imho

It's in black and white that we've been haemorrhaging money for years now. Who has been covering the losses? KM mainly and, more recently, Princey.

I think they are hopeless when it comes to running a club but they've just taken another big hit and given ST holders a 10% discount on tickets that are already fairly priced for L1.

What more can you reasonably expect? Personally I think they'd have been more sensible if they'd given Adkins more money to replace a couple of the players who weren't behind him and get some centre halves in earlier but when you look at what they spent last season I can see why they were reluctant to. Of course, it's backfired on them because they're going to lose more money this season but my view is that they're daft, not tight.

Fantastic post IMO

Adkins was at the helm of a squad which was already costing around £6m in a league that operates at about half that apart from the odd club or two, some are on less than half.

Adkins and his team cost a fortune too. Paying Clough and his team off last summer cost another fortune.

Of course the owners could always put another couple of million in. If Adkins had shown any progress they might well have done. But with his first big tranche of dosh he signed Edgar, Sammon, Sharp, Woolford and Hammond, not that encouraging overall. The previous season they had thrown money at Clough.

They are daft, but not that daft. By January there were severe doubts whether Adkins knew what he was doing.

but this is the managers fault
our board employ a person who on paper should have spent wisely , but he failed to do more than get Sharp back which was decent , the rest , not so good

Ill wager on return from the summer break our Chris wont hesitate in bolstering the squad

My take on this is as follows.
Neither the board nor the manager are going to tolerate having any of the rejects hanging around the Lane at the start of the season.
But if they state this publicly at this time , they only strengthen the negotiating position of any daft club which might take them or , if they are finished as players , the agent who is trying to drive up their exit deal.
Better to keep quiet , let things roll along , don't reveal our desperation to be rid of them , pretend that we are going to keep them as back-up in the reserves , until the player himself finds an opportunity, like Freeman.
Then deal with each proposal as and when it arises , like we are with Freeman.
Finally there seems to be a bit of nous being displayed by the Club , in facing this desperate situation where we are contractually committed to paying the rejects.
We can't undo the financial damage so we have to be a bit clever at limiting our losses.
The budget has already factored in the wages of the rejects (who will never play again) and even someone as stupid as Sir Kevin McIncapable will know that FOR 12 MONTHS , he simply has to take that dead loss on the chin (minimising it as best he can) BUT NOT let it interfere with recruitment by CW
