The Star: An open letter to Sheffield Utd owners

To the tune of "We're all wankers at the Lane", we could all sing " We're all the dregs of S2 (4SU)".

McCartney and Lennon watch out!

It's an evil plot to get all the Jacob Rees- Mogg types off here and the Prescott types off BladesMad to take over.

YHIHF

I'd love it if the owners came out and said that they were hoping to get talking about a deal, but hadn't had chance because they've been too busy composing responses to Wilder, Shield, Biggs, Danny04 Woodwardfan and many more about the ownership and manager status
On Football Heaven last night Rob Station said McCabe and Wilder were meeting this week to discuss the budget for next season and than McCabe and the Prince were meeting this month ( so their sources have told them)

I must, first of all, congratulate yourselves

Yourselves? Surely "you", or "you both"? Yourselves is just awkward, and wrong.

Bizarre use of a reflexive pronoun instead of a subject pronoun (try the shortened version: "I congratulate yourselves" instead of "I congratulate you" ... it just doesn't work). You can, of course, implore someone to congratulate themself, but then you wouldn't be the one congratulating them.

Sorry, I know I'm being a complete twat, and if it was someone posting on a forum I wouldn't even mention it, but this is someone paid to write for a living, and then (presumably?) checked by an editor who gets paid to pick up on such things.

And what is the aim?

If it's to tell the board that a large percentage of supporters don't want Wilder to leave, we did that in Bristol, not that we needed to.

If it's to ask to be told more than has already been said - we'll be told that more will be said as they are able to.

What would the petition be about? Or petitioning against?

See a copy of a recent post. You and I have discussed this before of course.

Wilder will let us know what he thinks of his budget in due course as with any player sales too.

The main objective of any such letter is to support our manager right now and beyond that if / when the prince takes over. If McCabe takes over I don't think we have a problem.

The second objective is to demand some information on this summer"s plans.

The third objective is to demonstrate that we fans are concerned , are aware of the dynamics of the threatening situation and have a voice.

Seems to be about 1 fan interested but I offered an idea and am glad I did.

Isn't that poem more about the victor and the vanquished ?

Not really, it's about a (dying) Norman baron bequeathing his 'estate' - including the recently defeated England (Anglo-Saxons) - and warning him that us lot are 'different' to other folk and must be treated accordingly:

"My son," said the Norman Baron, "I am dying, and you will be heir
To all the broad acres in England that William gave me for share
When he conquered the Saxon at Hastings, and a nice little handful it is.
But before you go over to rule it I want you to understand this:–

The rest of it goes:

"The Saxon is not like us Normans. His manners are not so polite.
But he never means anything serious till he talks about justice and right.
When he stands like an ox in the furrow – with his sullen set eyes on your own,
And grumbles, 'This isn't fair dealing,' my son, leave the Saxon alone.

"You can horsewhip your Gascony archers, or torture your Picardy spears;

But don't try that game on the Saxon; you'll have the whole brood round your ears.
From the richest old Thane in the county to the poorest chained serf in the field,
They'll be at you and on you like hornets, and, if you are wise, you will yield.

"But first you must master their language, their dialect, proverbs and songs.
(Greasy Chip Butty :D)
Don't trust any clerk to interpret when they come with the tale of their wrongs.
Let them know that you know what they're saying; let them feel that you know what to say.
Yes, even when you want to go hunting, hear 'em out if it takes you all day.

They'll drink every hour of the daylight :) and poach every hour of the dark.
It's the sport not the rabbits they're after (we've plenty of game in the park).
Don't hang them or cut off their fingers. That's wasteful as well as unkind,
For a hard-bitten, South-country poacher makes the best man-at-arms you can find.

"Appear with your wife and the children at their weddings and funerals and feasts.
Be polite but not friendly to Bishops; be good to all poor parish priests.
Say 'we,' 'us' and 'ours' when you're talking, instead of 'you fellows' and 'I.'
Don't ride over seeds; keep your temper; and never you tell 'em a lie!"

Thanks for the warning - I have never seen film or a photo of that event, and plan never to do so.

Google it. Try 'Rumbelows', 'Tracey The Shop Girl' (I think she presented the Cup), 'War of the Monster Trucks', 'It was so important that they cut off transmission before the Cup was presented' and 'How Wednesday winning the Cup destroyed its credibility for ever.'

but it's also surely the Star's job to actually find out what's going on.

Not since the swingeing cuts.

They now mainly repost stuff from on here and stick a picture of the wrong ground on it.

"Journalism" 2018 stylee!

Exactly what I thought, but as Danny04 gets stick on here because of what he does for a living, I decided it would be churlish to pick him up on the "yourselves/you" aberration. Happy to like your post though without wishing to appear too shark like :)

You'd still hope they had some contacts or ways in. Writing an open letter has some value but really they ought to be finding stuff out and challenging the club.
More a case of getting stuck in rather than politely asking the bosses to have a chat with CW.

Aye it'll be to discuss how they can reply to everyone

Good article/letter, if not stating the obvious!

I am sure that McCabe wants this sorting out ASAP, say what you want about him he is a Blade and he will not want to see his team screw up a great opportunity, that said, he wont want to just walk away with his hands in his pockets and why should he after the funds he has pumped in over the years.....maybe that's me stating the obvious!

The rumours flying around about what HRH wants to do with the club.....that he will sack Wilder anyway because of his outburst....relocation....shutting down the Academy....selling it on after he has stripped the assets etc, etc are all just that...rumours....and until one or the other comes out with something we will all continue to speculate because at the end of the day, only 2 people and their very close advisors have a Scooby what is happening.
for his own sake, HRH needs to actually ‘say’ something and get involved.. imagine if he owned the entire club
the silence is deafening..

Cheers for the tip. Would you like some condescending advice about how to do your job in reply? Do let me know.

I said your letter had value but actually finding out what's going on has more.
Can't see how you'd disagree with that.

I don’t disagree with that. Do you think we’re not? It’s a legal process. Court cases don’t get a guilty/not guilty verdict mid-trial

Does Chris Wilder know his budget for next season yet or not?
Do you know? Could you find out?
Surely that doesn't rely on the legal process being finalised?
