Today was a pretty abject performance, but (controversially) wasn't really any worse than a number of games last season, that we somehow managed to win.

There's more than enough qualityi and talent in this squad to turn it around. Selles hasn't found the right formula yet, but also still doesn't have all the tools needed. Given a more solid base we can afford to give more freedom to the attacking players. We need to get Hamer more involved and there's a few players who need to improve or be rested (Peck especially).

Once it clicks, we'll be fine. All of the pre season favourites, apart from Birmingham have dropped at least 3 points.

Got to the point where it's hard to tell if this is a spoof post or not.

With no changes in personnel, I wasn't expecting much different today to be honest. I'll only judge Sellés once he has reasonable replacements in and a chance to bed the system in

Here goes...
Brooks is not being given a fair crack at it. Few more games and well see him come good.
There were glimpses of the player Cannon could be. He controlled at least 2 passes to him (Wot?... Ed)
When Duffy and Coutts are fit, we'll see the real Blades playing the fabled high press.

It really isn't. We've been shit, it isn't good enough. Still doesn't warrant the melt down. My point is simply the performance drop off isn't as dramatic as some are making out.

We'll be fine
From dismantling Bristol City to being dismantled by Bristol City in the space of a few months was a pretty big drop-off.
There is absolutely nothing about the club from top to bottom that suggests we'll be 'fine'.

Nothing like a couple of generalisations to enthuse us for the rest of the season. If we had a plan that was not working I would be more confident, but the idea that Selles is just giving different formulas 'a go' is frightening. Wow we need to get Hamer more involved, I never! So who is coming in when these 'few players who need a rest' after 3 games get rested? We are hardly bursting with quality with a full squad.

Compare Bristol City at home in the league, V Bristol city at home in the league and the only difference is they took their chances this season. We were bloody awful against them and so fortunate to get away with 1-1.

We still have the championship player of the season at the club. Our LB made team of the season, Cooper was second only to a man now at man City. We have more than enough talent in this team to be fine. We clearly need first choice defenders and depth, but there's plenty in the squad who are top quality at this level.

The opposite of the bedwetter thread.

If you think Selles ‘needs time’ or the owners are playing 4-D chess and it’s all part of the plan, then keep it to this thread.

If you think RND just needs game time, and Cannon ‘makes runs’ then now you’ve got the place to share that!
For 20 minutes in the opening game we played some of the best football that I have seen us play in years.
Is that ok ?

So which games did we manage to win last season without having a single shot on target?

So which games did we manage to win last season without having a single shot on target?

None, fairly obviously. That's like asking how many games did we win without scoring.

But if you don't think we had numerous games where we created very little, less than our opponents then I'd suggest you're viewing with rose tinted specs

A lot of people are claiming that the players don't buy into Selles' tactics or understand what they're supposed to be doing but the first game of preseason everyone was already doing it exactly how they were supposed to.

The quality of the opposition has improved since York and we've lost players rather than strengthening, but not to the extent that the players become incapable of passing to each other, if they do the basics of being a professional footballer and the owners fill in the obvious gaps in defensive options, and add a bit of depth so that players don't keep their places regardless of how poor they are, we'll be up in the top 10 by October.

Is everything ok right now? No but the problems that are there are all easily fixed, some easier than others.

1a) The tactics, the players have spent all summer (with the exception of Soumare) playing this new system and tactics, doesn't matter what level of opposition it was against, they shouldn't have forgotten how to play this system.
1b) Selles said that he would tweak the system today, which he did and it didn't work out the way he hoped, which might explain the difference between Bristol City and today's game.

2a) While there have been poor performances throughout the team, it all stems from the defence.
2b) Defence play poor, your keeper has to work harder, then your midfield have to focus more on protecting the defence, which usually means they take less risks and subsequently, the service/chances to the forward players starts to dry up, hence why Cannon and Campbell got little to no service today and against Birmingham.

3a) the lack of signings, yes some might see it as the main issue (it might be) but it's probably the easiest one to rectify and in turn, it should solve the other issues we have in the squad.
3b) it shouldn't have taken Selles to come out and publicly demand for them to do more, but it is what it is, and since then, strong leaks with CB's, a RB and another CDM (Iroegbunam) have come out, so we know they're trying to get the players.
3c) get Selles in the players he wants, ship out those who don't want to be here, which should allow him to use the system/tactics he wants.

New signings come in and improve the team, performances improve. Performances improve and we start picking up points/results.

We start picking up results/points, we start climbing the table and players will look like they're enjoying the football again.
