The John Brayford Debate

No time for him, engineered a move to United by brown nosing on twitter when he should have been concentrating on playing for Cardiff, and then lo and behold as soon as Clough was despatched he didn't want to know or even seem to try for us.

Leave him to fight another relegation battle at Burton.
Ridiculous !!

Please tell me Burton fkin Albion don't pay higher wages than us

Probably did last year cos they got 6 million quid more than we did for being in the Championship and not League One.

I would bare my arse on the town hall steps if it was more this year.

Pure guess ! Brayford, when he comes back from holiday, meets CW who tells him he needs to take a pay cut to fit in to the present wage structure. Brayford then has to decide whether to be transfer listed, or take a punt on a chance of becoming a Premier League player with the Blades if all goes well.

Or, I should add, see out his contract without CW playing him lest the others get pissed off.

Is there really a discussion to be had here ? Brayfords not been put on the transfer list , wilders had a chat with him , he's our player next season . Its whos going to line up with Brayford and O'connell at the back that interests me .

Transfer listing a player who you hope to get considerable money for puts you in a weaker negotiating position.

Absolutely nothing has suggested Wilder is desperate to have Brayford back.
I don't understand why so many seem to think he'll feature prominently for us next season.

What makes you think that Wilder, bearing in mind his play well/keep the shirt selection policy, would suddenly drop Basham, who's been outstanding, for Brayford? He's not going to disregard that form Basham showed just because it's a new season.

I'd keep him and let him earn his shirt like Freeman did last year. Nothing against him at all, he'll have been on high L1 wages but average Championship wages, he doesn't seem big time or that he'd split the dressing room and is someone who puts 100% in if his mind is in it. Nothing to lose really.

At the moment he'd probably be 2/3rd choice CB maybe even 4th, and at RB I'd probably go with Freeman in a back 5 or Brayford in a back 4.
I'm sure Wilder said in an interview he'd brought Riley in to push Freeman last season, so if we can get him for another year that gives us options at RB.
If we can then get another CB in who'd be an improvement on Brayford, then to me it would make sense to move him on.
A lot depends really on just how daft his wages are, or how arsed he is about coming back. If it's something like 15-20k, then I'd imagine we can get Riley + a CB in for a lot less than that, but if it's more like 10k then it could just be a case of whether he wants to come back.

Cloughy had a little man,
His name was John the Beard,
And everywhere that Cloughy went,
He followed him - it's weird!

Don't get your hopes up lads. Nigel and Johnny are an item.

Riley + Freeman = unknown quantities at this level
Brayford = known quantity at this level whose performances earned him a premier league transfer

Not knocking Freeman, he may well churn out a season like he did last season. But I think it's worth having proven quality in Brayford around just in case

The John Brayford Debate? There should be no debate, he's a class act, he's our player, get him back in our team. Can only believe he's been loaned out last season, rather than sold, with the intention that if we went up he'd be coming back to the club for 17/18 season.

Sharp, Ched, Brayford and with a bit of luck Jaggers, four iconic players can only be a good thing for the team and club.

He didn't want to leave us, wilder persuaded him.

Fingers crossed herbs :)

His legs are made of honeycomb.

Come right back . Honeycombs .

The Brayford song if we want him back .

We all loved him as our talisman a couple of seasons ago . Brayford needs us more than we need Brayford , but that's same for any player at the lane under Wilder .

Seems many couldn't give a fuck about him now .

Just don't like the bloke, I think he's an absolute fraud. Freeman is better and we should be looking at even better now we are in The Championship.

Adkins was a fraud! I don't think Brayford was a fraud tbh. I don't care whether he comes back or not. It's win/win either way for me. We don't desperately need an attacking full back and if we sell him we get loadsa dosh to spend elsewhere. But if he comes back he's a good player of Championship quality. So we can't really lose!

Unless he shaves off his beard. Because that would spoil the homo-erotic adulation for some fans on here.

I think wilder owes him ,sending him out on loan certainly seems to have damaged his reputation with some blades

Wilder should back.him.and keep him or come straight out and say we cant afford to keep him
Don't believe all this clough love child shit

Weh tha wrong then! Simple as that.

It's bleedin obvious isn't it?

Had him at Burton, took him to Derby, took him to Sheff Utd, took him to Burton again. How much more proof do you need Inspector Clousseau?

Got into conversation with a Derby fan yesterday. He reckons that Brayford never trains as he is so injury prone.

Yes MM you are correct he only trains lightly once or twice a week, and plays on injections as per my earlier post, i think the reality is that Brayford deserves some credit here, but playing through injury is not a good long term career plan. I dont think he is necessarily injury prone per sei, more like being pressured to play through injury. Im told its an operation this summer so the above debate might be academic anyway...

So he's having an operation in the summer, meaning we'll be stuck with him and his wages until he's recovered, by which time his value will have decreased even more as he'll only have about 6 months left on his contract?

Fantastic.

Worked out well for us this hasn't it?

Probably serves us right for being reckless and stupid enough to sign him in the first place.

It's a weird one. He had some serious injuries that led to a dip in performances, but this part is simple enough: you don't loan a player to a division higher if he's not good enough for you. You do it for financial reasons and because his injury issues made him even more of a gamble for us. He's a player more than established at the level we're looking to stay at. On pure ability there's no question he's good enough for us.

Where it gets complicated is that we have a team that has achieved without him, and a manager who is very keen on keeping the finances in a certain structure. Could be that Brayford doesn't fit that structure right now. Could also be that Brayford's been happier away from the Lane and would prefer to stay there. My biggest concern though is that half the article in the OP is talking about his fitness troubles. Pushing through the pain barrier is admirable but there always comes that point at which you can't do that any more. It's easy for Burton to take that risk on a loan player they can't do without, our medical staff will need to assess his condition fully and see what the issues are.

The team that achieved without Brayford achieved it in L1. It won't achieve anything in the Championship. I can't believe the naivety of some of our fans who are saying that a championship quality footballer wouldn't be an asset to our squad.

FFS - Wilder has said there will be talks with brayford when he is back from holidays.

It will all get sorted - it's pre-season...............I bet some of you lot are like kids waiting for Christmas day.

He was PART of the defence that dumped us bottom of L1 and we did MUCH better without him.

If he goes, he goes, if he stays he has to sign up to the CW & AK philosophy - has anyone thought for a minute, that how ever good he was/is, he might not actually fit in?

I can't believe you read my post and thought I said Brayford wouldn't be good enough for our squad.

John Brayford is only championship quality when he's playing for daddy cluff. How can this not been seen by everyone?

If you could guarantee he plays as well for us as he does them then of course. He'd be the best right back in the championship, but he won't. He'll sulk about the pitch wishing he was in a cat cafe eating an avocado.
