Tenuous link, but thought I’d have my say on on the Madine signing and those not trusting Wilder on it.

Remember when we started the league 1 season with John Brayford as understandably first choice right back. Wilder quickly decided to ship him off to Burton and play Freeman there instead.
We were all scratching our heads and possibly questioning CW.

Fast forward to the end of the season and Freeman was a revelation bagging 10 goals!

My point being, yes Wilder has made a few signings that haven’t quite worked, but also has worked numerous miracles and masterstrokes especially at times when we weren’t sure. Leon Clarke another example.

UTB!

I for one wasn’t scratching my head, I had come to despise Brayford during his permanent time here, everything that was wrong about the attitude of some of the players we had in League one was summed about by Brayford before CW and AK got hold of them.

Brayford only wanted to play for Nigel Clough not Sheffield United.

My say is ,we all say we support Sheffield United. Gary Madine is now part of the team called Sheffield United so I know its a bit radical to some but why not support Sheffield United. Personally I cant stand a couple of players in our squad purely for football reasons but would never let it be known at a match and do my best to get behind them when they play. Gary madine seems like a good excuse for some who try and find something bad about Utd all the time. I simply don't understand why they do it.

There are a section of all fans that set the bar at where they would like us to be, and complain about all the areas where their club falls short.

There’s another section of fans that set the bar around where we have been, and are generally pleased when we exceed these expectations.

I think you and I are generally in the second group.

I'm sure there are a few, but not many. We all support the club and the team despite not liking some players. There's always someone we don't want in the first team, or in the squad. Sometimes it's the manager. Sometimes the owner. But we give our support and just have a gripe about the things we don't like. The Madine situation is just more extreme because his past/character is more extreme.

The picture of JB that you paint, could not be any further from the fact of it if you possibly tried.

Most people who don’t want Madine also support players we don’t like for pure football reasons just not scum like him. ( btw I don’t think there’s any I can’t stand)

And I’m sat watching him and Kieran Wallace playing in a cup semi final thinking I’m in some weird parallel universe. Shows how mental football can be.

I suppose Brayford is his boy and Wallace is one of his funny little pet projects.

Can't believe people slagging Brayford off
After his return he was played at Centre Half where he got a crunching injury

The whole point of him coming back should have been so that he could get forward like he had been doing when on loan. Not to play at centre half

I wasn't scratching my head over Brayford either, I did when we bought him but I knew I was in the minority.
I agree with Superbladesman7 on one thing though; it's going to take a miracle to turn Madine into a decent player. However this is the pond we are fishing in with regard to forwards as demonstrated by us bringing in Madine, Washington and McGoldrick - not a transfer fee involved! And also last season Donaldson, that 2 of these have worked out is already a miracle.

Even when he played RB, post permanent / pre injury, he was shite.

I wasn't surprised about Brayford either.

He was shot and has since gone on to prove it.
Agreed! He's gone and let 9 goals in tonight :p

JB played his best stuff for us while on loan here. Shame it didn't work out as he was awesome in the early days.

I think Baldock is a better play anyway.

Seriously I thought the six long years in League One would have sharpened some minds to the state of play. During those years I’ve got a list as long as my arm of players who I absolutely despised, the feckless, the wage thieves, the idle and the absolute dross that I watched. The one thing I did learn is that once a Wilder took over, that I actually began to enjoy the football again, and learned how to respect our players once again.

I was livid on Sunday after listening to some little wanker sat a couple of rows behind me, I think he was probably a refugee from the back of the mop, spending most of the match shouting and swearing for the full match slagging Wilder and the players off calling them every name under the sun, although he did have a speech impediment that made him sound like a constipated seal. I was also livid with the two old blokes who started slagging Wilder off on the way out and asked them how much they enjoyed those six years in League One.

From where I’m standing, things are looking rosy for United, despite the boardroom battle both owners seem to want to invest, we are playing the best football I’ve ever seen us play, we’ve got a manager who is the best we’ve had for a long time, and got a side of players who collectively aren’t that far away from getting us promoted. If people want to slag United off they would do well to look at where we’ve come from in the last few years, and I would also guess they aren’t the same people who endured miserable soul destroying trips to Bury, Stevenage, Crawley, Crewe and Gillingham

Look, Brayford was a hipster and drove an old school Mini instead of a Range Rover, he also had a few good games for us one season whilst on loan. On that basis he's revered by some fans, leave him alone, we are not allowed to criticise him.

Don't get the hatred fans seem to have regarding the majority of their former managers and players.

Weirdly, of the more recent managers, the one to receive the least hate is somehow Danny Wilson!

Nigel Clough who set up to try to get a nil nil away at Gillingham, lost two nil and then hit back at fans who wanted to know why he didn’t set up to try to win the game saying “ the fans can’t expect us to go to difficult places like this and risk losing the point we start with”

At Gillingham....

Odd that people don’t like him.

I didn't like Clough at the Lane as I thought he was just a shit negative manager who was living off his surname. He would never have got us promoted back into the championship in a month of Sunday's (a good manager came in and showed him how it was done in his first season), and you can see how successful he is being in the league again for Burton who probably have one of the biggest wage bills in the many division this season.

The only reason why I don't really dislike baby Clough for all his negative backwards thinking at the Lane, is that at least he gave us a couple of cup semis (in truth fuk the cups we needed to get out of the league we were in), and he was slightly less shit for us than some of the previous deviant misfits that we had endured before his poorly executed reign.

We really did suffer didn't we with one fool after another being appointed by McCabe, before he got very lucky with CW.

I have no time for Clough at all and just want to forget his tenure at the Lane. SUFC trying to not lose rather than win games in the old division 3....time to pack it all in when we get to that stage. And who can forget the hidings we got at Stevenage and Crewe....shudder. I am so so glad we have CW now - a proper manager.

I'm generally a clapper and since the 70s have supported the team through thin and thin, but Madine is a twat. It's not the pig thing, which I can put to one side, but the fact he is a serial violent offender and has done time for this. Think Marlon King, but prepared to hit members of his own sex.

Of course I don't want to destabilise the team, but I don't want that twat in a red and white shirt either. You have to draw a line somehwere and Madine is the wrong side of it for me. I do not need my team to prosper at all costs, if the price is employing nasty thugs.

Critisise yes but the vitriol that seem to come his way I think it’s unacceptable.
Yes he’s was good on loan and not so after , but I honestly thought he was trying his best injury loss of form can happen to any player .
Some fans seem to over inflate a players worth and then seem to enjoy running them down at the slightest loss of form.

It always makes me laugh when people say the bad managers were McCabe's fault, but the good ones were just luck. He can't win the poor fella.
