Start Brewster

He looked fire today, he's not an attacker to me anymore, but he still creates and threatens.

He looks very capable in that role behind the striker. He's above average at knowing which way to go with the ball, and winning the ball, and can also drift out to either flank with good effect

If he stays fit, he stays in the team

Having him up there improved us today. In home games we should probably be starting with 2 strikers

An interesting point you make. I can definitely see the value in O'Hare's work rate, high press and movement, but Brewster carries more composure and threat in the final third.

I don't foresee many more games in which the two of them play together, they're vying for that role.

Was worried how a midfield of JRS, O’Hare and Rhian would cope but played a lot better than the midfield against Swansea. Maybe RB has found his best position?

I’d given up on him a long time ago and felt the club should too in all honesty but no doubt he’s looked sharp this season and that was probably the best performance in the 10 of the season including O’Hare. He is a far better player when he’s not looking for the shot every time he gets the ball, if he can focus on being creative and limit the shot-taking to when it’s the only/best option he can contribute this season.

Delighted the lad had a good game yesterday.
He was busy & involved for much of the hour he played & with the added bit of match sharpness, I hope he can stay fit, relax a little & make a big contribution this season.
When he got subbed off, I thought he looked either knackered or a bit disappointed - I’ll take ‘em both as a good sign of his workrate & him enjoying being fit & involved.
A goal will do him (and everyone) the power of good.

Don't want to jinx it but this feels like the first time he's been fit for an extended period and getting regular minutes.

I'm not expecting him to be exceptional but he's looking more confident and comfortable after every game
I was a bit concerned towards the end of the first half. He seemed to pull up and motioned to the bench. He then trotted around till the whistle blew for half time. I was surprised when he came out for the second half. That magic sponge works wonders.😀

I thought Brewster did ok as a number ten, but there were also spells when he wasn’t involved. Not sure we can expect a second coming of Duffy or McGoldrick, especially given his inexperience. We might have to accept he’ll often look more like a 21 year old than a 25 year old.

Still think he’s more suited to playing up top, but let’s see. He deserves some luck either way.

Do you mean nothing better to offer than statistics?
How else would you look at football analysis?

Stats are significantly more useful than quotes.

"Souttar is dominant in the air, he's won 90% of battles which is more than the top 5 leagues"

"Ah, but have you considered, 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'"

Thought he was excellent on Saturday - do feel the position he played may be because we're proctecting him though. They clearly don't want him up top chasing everything or running after balls over the top. You'd have thought it may have made sense for him and o'hare to swap, but again that would require potentially a lot of sprints up and down the flank.

Seems in the 10 he can restrict his need to sprint and not risk the hamstrings again. If he continues as he did on Saturday then he can get a lot of joy in that position and he'll see plenty of opportunities to hit them from distance there as well - despite his poor goal return I do think he strikes a ball better than the majority of the team.

Keep it up (and keep fit) Rhian 😍

Wonder if the 10 might be a little easier on his body as well. It’s a little less explosive in nature than trying to sprint off the shoulder of the last defender all the time

Playing O'hare/Hamer out of position on the left instead of Brewster is baffling by Wilder in my books

Brewster on the Left would make a lot more sense more chance to cut in and shoot more chance to take on his man

Also, i think it is time to give Brewster proper run of starts , Ohare is a solid championship player who has started well but he does not deserve a start any more than Brooks or brewster

For me, it should be Brewter - Hamer - Rak-saki for the forseeable

Let’s not forget that despite being at United for what feels like an age, he’s still only 24 years old & has plenty of time to develop.

Absolutely chuffed that he’s back on the pitch & putting in performances. I’ve never wanted anyone to succeed here more than Brewster - a wholehearted GLTTL from me!

Why is it baffling to you, we havent conceded a fucking goal for a month, the left hand side has been magnificent with Hamer, Ohare and Burrows plus additions such as Rnd and MaCallum. Brewster who I like btw has had a couple of comeos but to play him on the left instead of tried and proven is mental.
Besides OHare had his best game yet on Saturday, and works his arse off.

As I said three months ago to great ridicule, we really should be looking to tie him down to a new contract asap.

I think we should offer him a new deal. Maybe one year initially, but on reduced wages.
You are joking surely. I'm probably one of the fans what kept thinking he's going to come good , but that's sadly gone from me and cannot keep making excuses up for him, yes he's probably a very nice lad. But sadly to me it looks like his injuries have killed him....we need better and hope he can rescue his career further down the leagues.

He’s only 24 and the poster said a one year deal on reduced terms. I’m not sure what the harm of that is.

We need more strength in depth or even if it’s to send him on loan and hope he rediscovers some form then we can make a little bit of money back on him.

If we’d signed him for free I’d agree with you, get rid and improve. But the money we’ve invested I’d consider a new deal providing he gets through this season without injuries

I don’t see any way we offer him a new contract at any point soon. It’s too risky. What division will we be in next year?

He isn’t getting enough minutes to show he’s anything beyond an unproven, injury prone fringe player in a shallow top 6 championship squad. They aren’t the players you rush to give new contracts to if you have a smart football dept

He's supposedly on £34,000 a week! How much of a reduction would you expect him to take?

We certainly could do with more strength in depth.
Lots of people have been hoping he rediscover s some form for the last three seasons. It hasn't happened yet!
But the money we’ve invested I’d consider a new deal
The money we've invested has proved to be a massive waste of money. Yet you want to risk wasting even more .

77 appearances. 5 goals!

Cue comments that he's been injured/not been given enough minutes etc etc etc

I wouldn’t offer him anything. He’s just not a very good footballer. I’ve never seen anything to suggest he is a footballer. If we released him and he went on to do well at another club I’d be happy for him, knowing that it was never guna click at United. Some strikers need fresh starts and maybe his price tag weighed heavily on him. He’s had it rough with injuries, but has also taken home £35,000 a week throughout so I have little to no sympathy for that. I would love him to prove me wrong, but his display against Middlesbrough was probably his worst ever performance for us, which isn’t a great sign as I would say he’s match fit now.

He is certainly not earning £34,000 a week.

I did not imply that he would rediscover his form; rather, I suggested that if we can negotiate a reduced contract, it could mean he becomes either the third or fourth choice, or is sent out on loan. This way, we wouldn't completely lose a player who cost us over £20 million for nothing, which could be a prudent strategy.

It seems you may have overlooked the point I raised, as well as that of the original poster. We're discussing reduced terms. To compete at a high level, we need three or four strikers. He has demonstrated potential; if he can maintain his fitness, he could be a valuable asset. Last season against Wolves, he performed exceptionally well, but we haven't seen that consistently enough.

I did not claim he hasn't received playing time. Based on your responses, I am beginning to doubt your ability to comprehend the discussion.

How are you so confident he’s not on that money? He was actually wanted by other clubs when we signed him, so it’s actually the probable scenario that we offered him 35k a week with no relegation clause as we were doing so well at the time
