The data is just that, data.
There are lies, damn lies and then there's statistics.

I have a bet on with someone on here , he reckons Brewster will score more than ten goals this season. I'm sure he wont.
So far, my money is safe.
You don't tend to find many people who understand statistics that would use that phrase...

Plus you miss some interesting stuff if you ignore data.

For instance in the stat - Big Chances Missed.

Last season OMB missed 7, Archer missed 6.
In our 2019/2020 season, Lunny missed 6, Mousset missed 6, Billy missed 5, McGoldrick missed 15!

In Brewster's whole Blades Prem career he's missed 2 (1 of them hit the post), 0 last year.

The data really isn't showing he's a bad finisher, just that he doesn't get chances or isn't in the right place ever.

Interestingly, if you look at Grbic's data, it doesn't actually show you he's that bad.

Actually that last one was a massive lie. The data suggest that he "should" have saved an extra 8.3 goals that the average keeper would. Which is absolutely insane considering he played 9 games. Worst in the prem by far when you look at total games play. An absolute disaster statistically.

Sometimes the data does agree with what your eyes see.

Emphasis on the word sometimes.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of statistics to bolster weak arguments, "one of the best, and best-known" critiques of applied statistics. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point. The phrase was popularized in the United States by Mark Twain

The origin of the phrase "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is unclear, but Mark Twain attributed it to Benjamin Disraeli

I know the phrase, it's often used by people to flippantly and lazily discredit someone's viewpoint when they have nothing better to offer.

If I’m saying it, he must be playing pretty well. Cos I’ve been much less than kind about him.

Was outstanding today, and much more effective (again) than O’Hare.

Perhaps should’ve passed to JRS but you can’t begrudge him a shot after working a chance.

Looked very lively these past few and his link up has been great. He’s got that explosive acceleration that can take him away from defenders and playing in these pockets is really suiting him.

Give the lad the start he deserves against Luton and then a few games after. He will never get going without a run of games.

If he’s still not done anything after that, fine - but you have to give him a chance. And I think he’s earned that.

And as for anyone who suggests he hasn’t played pretty well in his last few appearances, or that he’s ’running his contract down’ you’re simply letting your anti-Brewster bias cloud your judgement.

We literally all want this to turn out well, and he’s doing his very fucking best. And it might, might, just be good enough… very impressive for me tonight.
Well said brother he’s gonna take us back to the prem when he gets a couple of goals form is temporary class is forever

He started today and he was great, very happy for Brewdog.
Dependent on what he earns is it worth a new deal? We’ve done it with RND. I’d rather him be on a new deal and sell for a value than us lose him for free. I know it’s a over reaction and he doesn’t deserve a new deal based on performances since he joined, but we can’t be letting players leave on a free that we’ve paid big money for.

Perhaps a deal based more on match based incentives such as goals, assists, appearances is better for him rather than a high salaried weekly wage like he is on now.

I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to be offering him a new deal on different terms.

He wouldnt get anywhere near the money he's on now either with us or with another club, if he's loyal he'll sign a new deal on a fraction of the reported 40k pw and stay

Yep, it can’t be the same terms. But it will be a new deal with a club that’s better than he’ll get elsewhere.

Yep. Fantastic.

“He can’t start!! We need him to stay fit and come off the bench!!” Wahh wahh.

Great hour from him, and the next level up for his fitness.

I think one thing all of this proves is that you know your onions, sir

Don't want to jinx it but this feels like the first time he's been fit for an extended period and getting regular minutes.

I'm not expecting him to be exceptional but he's looking more confident and comfortable after every game

He's just pulled his hamstring.... I hope you're proud of yourself

Didn’t manage to catch the game. What was his role/position out of interest?

He started today and he was great, very happy for Brewdog.

Wouldn’t say he was great…more like he was good. Slowly but surely seems to be improving feeling comfortable with the players around him.

He still needs to improve but he’s showing he shouldn’t be written off yet. Well played!

Let’s see how he does in this role behind the strikers and go from there, maybe he can get a goal and get some confidence to play upfront again. But until he does that I’d suggest this role behind a striker suits him just fine.

I would say I’d judged him harshly - I don’t think I did at the time. I don’t think anyone did. He’s knuckled down, worked his bollocks off and played well. Another start beckons after the break for me.

He deserves a beer tonight and his redemption arc is well on its way.

He looks very capable in that role behind the striker. He's above average at knowing which way to go with the ball, and winning the ball, and can also drift out to either flank with good effect

If he stays fit, he stays in the team

Having him up there improved us today. In home games we should probably be starting with 2 strikers
