The problem with Chris . He wants things to progress, we all do. He talks like a fan that he is, rather than a man in control.
I think we're shagged at the moment. It could be a difficult winter.

Speaking as a Wilder fan, even I am getting bored of the bollocks he is spouting about incoming players.

Either due to assurances made to him from above being reneged on, or in an attempt to try and placate fans.

If it’s the latter then he must think we have goldfish memories.

Also getting a little bored of him blaming players he has ‘Inherited’. If they aren’t good enough, then don’t register them in the squad.

I understand that there are certain things which we as fans will never get to know, but we deserve a little more transparency and honesty. We are the paying ‘punters’ after all.
Also the players he inherited arent the real problem. Every single new manager inherits all the players at a club, you then change that with the ones you bring in. Too many of the ones hes brought in are shit , old, injury prone and on big money

And basically calling Ukaki a problem, and making it clear he "inherited" him. Imagine being a 21 year old, 3,000 miles from home, and being labelled a problem and unwanted?

Chris has made it clear he's a manager and not a coach, but he's a fucking awful manager if this is how he's treating his players. Every manager inherits players but there's absolutely no need to be so disrespectful to those you didn't sign.
He’s clearly thrown McGuiness under the bus hoping to put pressure on him and force him to leave, with the possibility of fans blaming him not leaving on us not bringing in a creative player. Disgusting tactics and if I were McGuiness I’d tell him to fk off and stay put.

Would make sense, he’s 21 but 2 months too old to count as the cut off is being born on or after 1st January 2005 and he was born in October 2004.

We did the same thing with the ESC slots last year and had to ship Caceres off to Dunfermline so we could sign Zatterstrom as we didn’t seem to think the Bulgarian lad would take up a slot due to age but did. Glad we rushed Jeff off to sign Zatterstrom mind he’s been a great pick..

The sad thing for him as a man is that based on what Wilder’s said we’re probably currently desperately trying to find a club to take him where the transfer window is still open, and if we can’t and we want this free agent badly enough we’ll probably just pay him off and end his contract.

I think Chris falls into the Brian Robson style of management.
That's no idea on the training pitch.
Chris Morgan once told me that training was exercise then a kick about with him.No work on defences patterns, shape or who the next opponent would be.
It does seem obvious that we start ok and then the opposition manger tweaks a couple of thinks and it's game over for us.

It's harsh in pro football when you fail early , there are suicides

I've never understood how a manager is supposed to know what's happening in a game from his view on the touchline , obscured as it is by all the players and the width of the pitch is foreshortened by his low angle.
He'd get a much better idea of what both teams are doing from high up in the stands.

I think he should start by opening his eyes and seeing the obvious deficiencies we have. If he can’t see this week in week out then I’m not sure changing his position for a better viewpoint will change much.

It’s disgusting how he’s singled McGuiness out, it boarders bullying.
McGuiness has been better than 90% of his summer signings. Never seen a player used as a scapegoat as much as this in all the time I’ve followed the blades.
Far from condoning his treatment of McGuiness, but there were a couple of times in the Bolton game where he had the ball at his feet and oceans of space in front of him to push into and he took one look at that, turned and passed it sideways to Tanganga - at which point Wilder went absolutely ballistic. The third time it happened he didn't even say anything, he just held his hands out, shook his head and sat back down ...

It doesn't take much imagination to see a direct correlation to those actions and treatment of a player, and McGuiness losing his marker for Bolton's seconds goal due to not being confident enough in his decision making...

He’s still garbage, though.
But as long as he’s put Wilder reyt, you’re ok with that?

So how do players manage, then?
I get it’s a better view but the good players see the patterns at that level. Ex players too.
Of all the sticks to beat the manager up with the new twig is that he should be in the stands and not making a difference from the side lines?

His post match interviews and pressers suggest otherwise.

And yet nearly every professional manager stands on the touchline through preference. Strange that - it's as though they don't share your insight into the game.

I think its more of a culture thing in football , its as much about optics as it is communication, and nowadays having a pop at the 4th official.

Other sports , Rugby and NFL have coaches in the stand who communicate with the bench , after all the cameras they use for post match analytics aren't on the touchline.

Its really a just a football thing that may change someday .

It's a football thing for sure, and pretty much ubiquitous throughout the game worldwide for many decades, despite well established changes in other sports. Strongly suggests that people who understand how to manage football teams have concluded that the benefits of the approach outweigh the downsides.
I agree that it may well change some day, probably driven by some technical innovation beyond that already in use in other sports, but of all the things I'd be asking Wilder to change, managing from the stands on matchday would struggle to feature on my priority list.

I agree , far from a priority.

One day some Pep style culture setter will do it and everyone will follow suit I guess.

I suppose they feel more involved in the match and communication is more direct.

Stand coaches in other sports appear less emotive and animated , probably more analytical .

Swings and roundabouts really .

I’m not saying he’s great but he’s certainly not one of the worst, my point is how he’s been singled out in public by Wilder putting him in a position where fans could turn against him and blame him for Ayew not signing unless he agrees to leave. It’s public shaming and I don’t like that.

The whole team is underperforming and making mistakes, why is McGuiness being made a special case? It’s disgusting, borderline bullying.

It’ll be Zatterstrom or Grbic holding that up, not McGuinness.

He is one of the worst, by the way. He’s in the top 5%. He does some decent stuff but he’s an absolute liability in every game.

He’s crap, that’s why.
This is nothing new.
I’ve said as such the moment he signed. Never been anywhere near a decent CB.

Won’t be Grbic, he’s already gone and I can’t see Zatterstrom’s wages being significant, I’d say he’s clearly singling McGuiness out again.

In the late 80s United documentary Bassett talks about how he likes to watch the first half of the game from the stands so can get a better understanding of tactics them moves pitchside after half time.

Documentary shows him sat in the Directors box with Reg during a game.

Edit. Just seen he’s U21 so doesn’t count.
Maybe it’s Ukaki then? 🤷‍♂️

I don’t see it that way. I may be wrong but I suspect it’s more to do with a hold up on the Zatterstrom international transfer. Given we haven’t sold McG I’m sure Wilder would prefer to keep him as cover to an already thin squad (on quality)

BLUT would have been a better option for him to sit if he wanted to see the ball....even from the Directors box he'd still get a ricked neck from staring skywards.....

( I'm joking by the way - some of my happiest memories as a Blade fall under his leadership)
