And yet, in hindsight, are we not glad to have this pitch in the last season and a half? For a relatively small cost.
All subjective I suppose. Had it not been for Wilder it's quite possible we'd still be down there with our desso in league one.

I just thought that at the time we had greater priorities, like a full squad to sort out.

again your isolating odd games
since the desso was laid weve improved on it as results show
ask WILDER IF HED PREFER PLAYING ON PITCHES LIKE OLDHAMS

Odd games?

Sheffield United 1–3 Bury
Sheffield United 2–3
Colchester United
Sheffield United 1–2
Millwall
Sheffield United 2–4
Shrewsbury
Sheffield United 2–3
Peterborough United
Sheffield United 0–2
Wigan Athletic
Sheffield United 0–1
Burton Albion
Sheffield United 0–2 Scunthorpe United

That's a lot of 'odd games'. 24 points worth of 'odd games'

I saw the whole argument as a short term V long term investment thing. And, again in hindsight, it seems to have worked out.

Whether that is through planning or good fortune is, as you say, subjective.

Given how the manager turned out, the money was most probably better spent on the grass.

I suppose you could look at it like that, but the thing is that at the time we weren't quite aware how bad Adkins was going to be. And the fact that we were so bad in 15/16 season with a desso and so good in 16/17 with the same desso, re-enforces to me that it is far less about the brand of grass we are playing on and far more about the manager and players.

Fuck off Barney. Now you're talking daft.

So what you're saying is: if Stoke came in for Wilder, and we flogged Duffy, Coutts, Brooks et al and managed on great players like Doyle and Sammon and Hammond we'd still kick the doors down in this division because the playing surface at BDTBL is nice and Dessoy?

Like, um ... Bolton (who also have a Desso and beat us on ours)

I most certainly don't disagree with that point. Better footballers play better football. Although I am pleading hindsight in my argument...

Better footballers play, to some degree, better football on a better pitch. So whether the decision to install it was unconscious competence or not, we are surely in a better position now for having the pitch.

for me the desso pays for its self in the winter. because you only have to have a look at some of the lower league sides fully grass pitches that were bobbly & 1/2 mud. they are only going to get worse

yet ours in depths of winter looks as good in 1st game of august as in last game in may

I'm never denying 'it looks good'. It's looks fucking awesome. It probably plays great as well.

But with the correct manager, and certainly the right players. Selling our best and imagining the pitch will get us promoted is a bit daft. As it were.

oh dear............have I triggered WW III ?

UTB

No. You've brought people out of the woodwork whose reasoning on a certain aspect of a few years ago is strangely unresolved when under scrutiny.

And no matter how many times I ask them, they don't have the answer.

There will be more times when people come on there ...or this thread gets dug up ... and still the same old questions are unanswered.

The only way it could have been pre-planned is if the board knew how poor Adkins was going to be, and if that was the case obviously they wouldn't have appointed him. I think a fair summary would be that a poor call and poor judgement at the time was rescued by good fortune and hindsight in that the money was perhaps not best placed with that certain manager anyway.

Fuck me, you do have a large .xls file on me and my posts, don't you?

I cant work the controls as well as you, and similarly, I can't be fucked. Take it from me, you disappeared on a thread about six months ago. Possibly about the budget, possibly not. I don't get too upset about it. You were wrong. I'm not about to log everything you say and when you said it. Like I say, show us the proof of the pitch and its worth, or shut up. I know you can't, regardless of al your assumed theoretical might.

Go away little man. You're a liar. Proven. You've lied on this thread, been shown up and you've done it again. Cerebral midget.

No, its just someone who really is obsessed about being right.....its a pitch, they all cost money...this one happens to have cost a bit more, so does three ply paper, still wipes your arse like Izal medicated, feels better though

Proven liar. Give it up you tosser. Deal with what you said I said which was patently, obviously, a deliberate lie to dig you out of a hole. Spineless fuck.

I think the pitch did play a huge part in getting us promoted though. If we had played like we did last season on the old pitch, I don’t think the style of football would have been as effective with the ball bobbling off divots left, right and centre and last season we didn’t play as well away from home at times when the pitches weren’t up to scratch after the winter months. We struggled to draw at Rochdale on a proper pudding of a pitch that had been waterlogged 24 hours before, and struggled at Oldham which had gone the other way and turned in to a grassless, patch of sand.

My honest opinion, 2 and a half years after the Desso installation is that has been a good investment, as it has allowed us to play an expansive, attractive brand of passing Football, a task that would have been much harder on a pitch that cut up more easily, and because we have been very successful playing that brand of football on a pitch that enables to play that way, for me it has been a success and will go down as a good investment at the time, although we didn’t get any short terms gains from it, the long term benefits have been huge.

The only criticism of it was that during the first year it was noticeably slower than a normal pitch, and it was perhaps a contributory factor towards our lack of success in 15/16 although there was a lot of other reasons why as well, the speed at which the ball moves around on it has seemed to quicken up substainally.

Really? I mean 'really'?

Feller, if you are all in a foam about me saying you were wrong and not being arsed about being all obsessive about searching for it, then its you who has the problem. You did disappear on the particular post, and I can't, and don't give a fat fuck about where and how.

As for your personalised abuse at me, I'll note that. Keyboard warrior, indeed.

No. Lets stick to the topic, where you still can't respond to our dismal performance in the first season on the Desso and somewhat miraculous ability to win away on shit pitches. Try not to disguise the fact that you don't know and can't answer and that line of questioning is possibly behind your little stampy feet paddy on this thread.

Answer it, eh?

Yeah. The three ply doesn't automatically guarantee all the shit comes off your tea towel holder on the first or subsequent passes though, does it? You can still get the shit off with Izal, mind.

yeah true its the players on the pitch that got promotion & quality is important. but it will help you reach the better levels more consistently as you are able trust your 1st touch more. using f1 analogy put lewis Hamilton in a Force India & he could do very well get decent results plenty of podiums. but in mercedes or ferrari gives him bigger chance for wins

Hey - navy dig! One nil to you, feller!

And, um 'bullying'. You seem to know what proper bullying is. So tell us how that works, eh?

For me, all I want to know is about our first season on the Desso. Hardly bullying. Sorry if you feel a victim about that.

You lie. Can't admit it because you're an egotistical fraud yet you try to call me out. Stick to changing the subject. Although you aren't even good at that.

Okay. I'll overlook the abuse.

Now tell me about the Desso, the first season and our home and away form.

You can't, can you? And that really fucks your argument.

Not bothered about being threatened, least of all by you.

The subject is the Desso. Tell us about the first season on that wonderful pitch and why we finished eleventh on our ace pitch, having lost eight games on it.
