That certain quarters on here reckon one of the firm reasons we are where we are is because of the Desso. 'Value for Money'

I say that million might have been better spent on our central defence at the time (as I have wearily said, time and time again) as we were fucking shitola along the back four.

The reason we are where we are is because at last, we have a manager who knows what he's doing and he's booted the gash players out and we have retained the better players. Not because of the pitch.

The argument goes back to 2015 and how fucking BRILLIANT our pitch was, yet we'd mysteriously let JM - the pervious season's top scorer on a new 3 year contract go (because he wanted out, yet we had a Desso ... ) and had depleted the back four to what was effectively a comedy quartet of stand-ins and never-will-make-its. In amongst that was Maguire, who seemed to be doing it all on his own. Yet, on out super pitch we lost eight (count em) games, in some by playing like a team bereft of ideas about how to stop teams getting at us. I'd say buy a couple of £500k CDs rather than a new pitch. But, that's my opinion. We didn't and finished eleventh. Hardly 'value for money'.

And I am not denying that but ... we also won away that season at Peterborough, Scunthorpe, Colchester and fucking hell, Shrewsbury (whose dogshit pitch amongst the others prompted this little discussion). Shrewsbury miraculously beat us on our own wonder surface.

1. We buy a pitch. It costs £1.xm (depending on who you get the price from)
2. Our back four that season was all over the shop, with one proper central defender (who was gash) and the other places filled in my people out of position
3. We sold our previous season's top goalscorer and main attacking threat at the first shout
4. We didn't buy any credible strength in depth
5. We did get Woolford though, so, hey-ho
6. We continued to ship goals and finished in a remarkably low position, losing eight games at home on the new pitch
7. The football we played was hardly 'fast attacking'. more, 'shit, boring'
8. Our injury count was unaffected

There's my argument. And the argument is based upon countering your fanciful one that McCabe's investment was 'value for money'
