Under shariah, trading of stocks and shares isn't forbidden, not even if it's speculative and only for capital gain rather than as an investment where you would receive an annual dividend. Those of islamic faith are allowed to trade, but must not short and forward sales and future sales are not permitted.

In terms of the EPL restrictions coming into force next season, stock trading doesn't come with the same kind of societal problems as what mainstream gambling does, it can obviously be risky, but your not going to get millions of people spending money they don't have on something that you ultimately never end up with more than if you'd never gambled. Problematic gambling can be really harmful to lots of people, and I'm sure that trading can also be problematic but not on a societal level.
 
I shall now start shouting 'Cunty Fucking Idiots' at the United players every time we concede a goal next season, in an effort to show my appreciation of our main corporate sponsors.

They will be protecting their spend, meaning if we go down they arent contracted for another year, and can renegotiate

However, likewise if we stay up, we can go back to market and look to negotiate a more lucrative/long term deal

Right now, if as reported, a cash injection of £6m is very welcome, if only for 10 months
