you know i was i thinking this is interesting for the run in, because this is a good test of how well this team copes under pressure. as this is as close as you can get to a cup final, without being in 1

my main worry because on paper everything says we should win on sunday, we got better players, we are in better form, home advantage & a manager that will drill into players what this means to the players. unlike rohl whose is a rookie. but the last merseyside derby is perfect example of that form goes out the window

everton had won 2 games in the previous 17 games, fighting for their lives, liverpool win & they would be joint top with 4 games to go & this was the table before the merseyside derby. & how it did it finish 2-0 everton

Well, it’s their cup final, last one they were throwing shirts to the fans after a 0-0

The challenge for CW will be keeping the players cool calm & collected , not reacting to the inevitable shithousing

I was talking from a fan perspective.
The players will be fired up to differing degrees regardless of being local or not. Blaster obviously will be. I can see Vini being very hyped. Also look how Burrows reacted at Bristol, I can see him being pumped up as well.
I think this is one of the great advantages of having Wilder in charge, he'll leave them in no doubt what this game means to the fans and will have the whole team pumped up for it.

My only concern is that one of them (probably Vini) might get a bit too pumped up and get sent off for a two-footed lunge on 5 minutes.

I think it’s fair to say that sometimes “ form goes out the window” when it comes to derbys, but I think the line is trotted out too often and doesn’t reflect the majority of situations

but i think it does. you look at Manchester derby & yes pep overall has the upper hand. but then there are times where man utd surprises everyone by being competitive. just look at the FA cup final. nobody gave man utd a chance & actually theyve won their last v pep

& their was space where they played each other 7 times in 16 months & pep only won twice despite been quite heavy favourites & man utd won 3 consecutive games at the Ehitad

Appreciated, but that's one derby, but still valid of course. I did see something last season that backed up what I said and it covered all the big derbys in the UK. In fact, it didn't back up what I said as I hadn't said it at the time 🤣 It's what gave me that opinion. It showed points scored in previous 10 league games of each team to show who was the 'form team' going into the derby, then whether that team won. They nearly always won, or at least hardly ever lost. I'll have a look for it tomorrow, it was a good article.

Based on that, if I am remembering it accurately, the form score for this game is SU 22 - SW 15

The illness that kept me from Baldocks game is still in full flow. I feel like shit and genuinely think I won't make it. I don't enjoy derbies but I haven't missed a home Derby for at least 30 years. I'd feel sick watching it I'm going to be devastated to miss it. Imissed a very close relatives funeral this week so it's not a case of get yourself there you'll be fine cos I know I won't. I'm not even sure I could bear to listen to the radio.

Hope you get better soon mate. Health is more important than any football match.

Look after yourself.

Totally hate this game, if we win its heaven if we lose its hell no inbetween, if we never played them again id be happy. As for this one form goes out of the window infact i think the under dog does best as its a free hit. We need to be really fired up for it as they will be, dont fear them but respect them im sure they will come to frustrate us and do a smash and grab. So for me dont go too gung ho keep it solid at the back and try to bring our quality to the fore but please dont lose

Always had you down as a younger man...

Nothing beats a bit of cheeky Cockney humour….. or so they would have us believe .

Anyway , nice to have you back and please let us know sometime as to how your efforts are going in trying to re - educate your fellow southern softies on the important things in life , based on the wisdom and knowledge you have gained by visiting our forum . :)

I dunno if it's because the last few have been nil Nils but not got the pre match jitters yet. We have had promotion games, big premier league games and fa cup games since last playing them that meant a lot. This right now does feel kinda like "just a game" albeit it one we badly want to win it doesn't quite have the season defining feeling something like the Bash Leeds game had.

Going for a 0-1 pen to them purely because they’ve not had one for about 4 year!

We’ve not lost at home (so bound to lose to these) with no Moore or Brewster striking options limited.

Just home from a nice pre-match sesh with my dad. Had a few beers, talked about the match among other things. Now I'm home it's hitting me. Next time I go out I'll be going out for "the" match. For all I normally try and keep a level head about such things....god I hope we smash the bastards.
