Bit better that, broadbent not good enough, Arblaster and Coulibaly has moments but need a Norwood next to them, ndiaye sub changed the game and he showed moments of quality the Scunthorpe defence wont have to come across this season.

Finished 3-2. Better second half performance but the real difference was when we made 6 changes with 20 minutes left. Of those that started Arblaster and Coulibaly did ok with Lowe lasting the full 90, the rest meh. What we learnt is that Anel
and Clark have to start. Egan was poor and has to improve. Baldock had a hand in both goals and is automatic choice. Fleck was his usual pre season lazy self so Osborn gets the shirt with Norwood in the middle. Berge has to play as a second 10 with Ndiaye because once we pushed up the pedestrian 3-5-2 play evaporated and we scored 2 goals.

Brewster starts up top took his goal well.

A good exercise exposing the defensive flaws of the starting 3 with the ball over the top. All the youngsters need loans, we need to get another forward in plus a 10 and preferably a DM. Bash went off with a knock and young Dewhurst had a fine debut for Scunny his kicking was particularly impressive.

Much much better second half. Unfortunately my stream died with about 10 mins to go but it was miles better than the first half.

Lowe has to start. The LWB position is now his to lose.
Coulibaly and Arblaster both looked good and I'd like to see more of them, but they both need an experienced head next to them and can't play together.
Egan/Bash/Robinson were awful, I'm hoping Clark and Ahmedhodzic will play alongside Egan.
Broadbent needs to go on loan again.
Jebbo won a lot of first balls and looked generally good. Osula still a little raw and needs a loan assuming Sharp and McBurnie are back soon.
Brewster and Ndiaye look well up for it, they could be an exciting partnership alongside Berge

Just on way home.

Thought our defence looked disinterested first half as though 2/3 are aware they won’t start in first 11 at season start.

Dewhurst had a shocker.

Front two looked poor against non league side.

Fleck playing like a Scot in warm weather!!

Lowe tidy but jury still out for me.

Don’t think Osborn the answer centre mid so Fleck/Doyle/ano. Think Coulibaly is more forward thinking so won’t play assuming Berge and Ndiaye start.

Brewster looks sharp and confident thankfully and hopefully stays fit .

Hurry up Sharp and Doyle !!

Baldock impressed me, looks like having a few international caps/experience has helped him. Broadbent hasn’t looked football league level in the games he’s played for me.

I’m going to take a guess you mean Broadbent not Dewhurst seeing as he’s the goalkeeper for Scunthorpe

Dewhurst had a shocker.

Is this what you meant? Dewhurst was their keeper and everyone else has said he had a strong debut.

Did you mean Broadbent perhaps?

Think Coulibaly is more forward thinking so won’t play assuming Berge and Ndiaye start.
Has anyone considered that he could also be more suited to a number 10 type option and in fact it might be in centre mid we need to recruit? I.e. maybe our no 10s possibles are, in a 3-4-2-1, Berge, N’Diaye, Khadra and Coulibaly. In centre mid we have Fleck, Osborn, Doyle and Norwood. Maybe something back there is more apt?

I did!

That’s what I mean.Doyle next to Norwood when fit and until then Fleck. Not Coulibaly or Osborn.

Management must have learnt a lot and/or have had confirmation on whether or not some of the players are ready or can continue for the first team. Midfield needs a change and personally I think we should stop persevering with Fleck. He’s been bad for going on 2 years now, he’s had his day. Our old boys really need to just be back up now or we won’t get anywhere. They were great for a time but that was a long time ago in football terms. Loyalty to some of the players is holding us back. I’m looking forward to seeing the new signings in defence and midfield taking us forward.

Probably doesn't mean anything, but it's a bit surprising that we have played 3-5-2 at all times in pre season so far, i.e. no no 10s.

I think this is a good omen. There have been a few seasons where we have won every pre-season friendly only to fall on our arses when the proper games start.

Chance for a swift kick up the backside to those thinking you just have to turn up and look the part.

Said it on shoutbox earlier and I'll say it again here, if you're one of the 4/5 nob ends who decided to fight each other at the back of the away end earlier, before a ball had even been kicked, then you're a fucking pleb.

Seriously something wrong with a percentage of our fanbase, all this "fellow Blade" stuff is bollocks if you're going to try and punch lumps off each other over nowt...at a friendly...in 26° sun! 🤦

Loads of young kids watching intently, you're giving them a bad impression about what being a Blade means. I saw several kids looking scared out of their wits when it kicked off, one guy had to tell his two young lads to move as he could see it was going to kick off.

There's no wonder we've got groups of 19/20 year old lads turning up purely to sniff coke, drink and scrap, if they're growing up watching Blades fighting each other at every other game.

I'm not sure if it's as common at other clubs, but its happened at United games well over 10 times in the last year, and that's just at games I've been to.

If you can't hold your beer, don't drink.

If you can't go to the football without setting on your own fans then for the love of christ please stay the fuck away 🙏🏻

(sorry for the high horse, it just fucks me off)

Don't forget we murdered Donny 0-4 at the Keepmoat last pre season, snd look how we started under Slav 😣
Result irrelevant, but it's a big reminder you can't drop standards, insipid first 45 from everyone, bar Arblaster, and to a lesser extent Coulibally, who did ok

The curse of Scunny. Over the last 10 years we've won only once drawn four and lost 5 games. To-day was our sixth loss. Even when we got promoted with CW we drew both games as they were up there challenging. Memo to pre season fixtures staff avoid bogey sides.

A summary...

Negatives :

Broadbent was severely lacking.

Jebbisula need to learn to hold the ball up.

Max Lowe looks knackered.

Egan and Bash looking a bit off it.

Still caught with the ball over the top, twice.

Getting stuck playing tippy tappy on the wings again in the first half.

No N'Diaye, no creativity.

SHOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

Positives :

Giorgios Baldockopopolous is much better than George Baldock.

Anel looks like a baller, a warrior and a leader.

Brewster looks well up for it.

Clark played well when he came on.

Gordon looked better in the middle than he did on the right.

Oliver Arblaster is going to be one hell of a player.

Coulibaly showed some really nice touches and intelligence, as well as loads of energy. Shame he can't shoot but hopefully he'll improve after some work.

N'Diaye is a special talent and looks more confident for the time with Senegal.

Honorary Mention :

Jordan Amissah is an absolute unit.

When all's said and done it's only pre-season, it's all about fitness and getting the new signings bedded in.

Better to get beat today than at Watford!

This, along with Scunthorpe being a shithole and having seen us lose so many times there over the years, was a big reason why I didn’t go today - I just knew there’d be a lot of dick heads in attendance.

Says something when I turn down a match 45 minutes away having flew to another country to watch United just last week.

There wasn't even any beer available at the ground, even before kick off, and it was midday...takes some doing to be that much of a nobhead in those circumstances
