Scot lad sounds like McGinn given Celtic have been linked.

Given we want an attacking midfielder I would have thought Christie at Celtic, loanee out last year would have beena good option.

If both sign are they the types to play together up front, I ask because if the answer is yes then you would expect them to start and Billy and leon on the bench.

I can't see it being McGinn.

He's almost a clone of Fleck and would apparently cost £2.5m rising to £5m.

My punt for the Scottish player would be Greg Taylor. 20 year old Kilmarnock left back. Celtic could be interested as it looks possible they could be losing Kieran Tierney, their current left back, to the Premier League.

I would love to be wrong about the loan, 100% agree, it represents a very significant step up for us to bring him in on a permanent.

I’ve seen very little of him. What are his perceived qualities please?

Edit.

Now checked his stats. Not a prolific goal scorer is he?

His qualities from 2016-17 were, he`s mobile for a big lad, good touch, finds space, and wins headers, and scores goals.

Last season none of these!
Not playing as much last season was a waste of a season for the lad, just didn`t happen for him.

Now, I`ve got a wedding to get ready for

I’ve already offered to do that one for you!

Thanks for reply, as ever. I hope he’s not a sign of hoof. It needn’t be the case of course but it’s a danger with big men. Not always their fault I add, often other players taking the easy way out when under pressure.

Oooooo, a suit and 30' heat, that sounds like fun!

So sorry mate, had a lot to do, and keep an eye on this site too.

It`s not easy trying to put a cravet on and type at the same time

I`d better do it, the wife has bought a new frock, and I`ve sweated over the speech for 3 months.

Thanks for the offer though!

Have a good one, mate.

Bugger the cravat - as a blade you should have known enough to get a Bride and Groom half and half scarf (much easier to fasten).
Hope all went well and I presume a very happy reception! :)

The only reason Utd would be after McGinn is if Fleck was going so let's hope they're not.

Like a few others, I suspect it will be a LWB they're after from kilt land

Those scarves often unravel within a few years...

I imagine the difficulty in getting either Gallagher or Hogan permanently is that we'd then have to stump up a full wage packet (rather than having some subsidy from the loaning club).

This amount would have to be a lot higher than our current wage structure, which would then have a knock-on effect on our top earners such as Fleck and O'Connell - just guessing.

Loaning means we wouldn't have this problem whilst we can grow our wage budget more naturally for another full season.

Very risky if he starts banging the goals in.
The price suddenly increases and other clubs with possibly more cash to throw around become intrested.

I genuinely admire the fact we aren't chicking money around on wages and transfer fees like several other clubs I could mention but at some point we will have to re-address the wage structure I feel, otherwise we may find ourselves left behind by other promotion chasing clubs. Whilst we may continue to unearth the odd gem from the lower leagues and have a loyal core of workaholics who will compete at a higher level without commanding a king's ransom, we will at some stage need to add more quality and increasingly this comes at a real price.

Who are our top earners? I assume some of those who signed improved contracts last year; Fleck, JOC perhaps Bash along with Sharp as Captain? All of whom must understand the climate we are working in now and surely wouldn't be put out by a couple of players coming in from a higher league on a higher wage? That may of course depend on the difference involved but still, it doesn't feel like we have a Forestfairy within this group.

It would be a huge shame if this holds us back this season.

The way to mitigate that problem would be to agree a loan to buy deal with a fixed price at the end of the loan

So, have the lads boarded the plane for Portugal yet and more importantly, is there one, possibly two extra players on board? :)
It's today we go. I can't answer if anyone new has gone but maybe Hogan has just stayed over there and waited for us.

twirlo latest post:

"Both asking too much in wages, Gallagher is phuckin us about and Wilder is just about ready to tell him to phuck off. Hogan unless he drops his wage demands not a prayer of coming. The Liverpool lad is deffo on the radar. Theres a few others hes asked about, but as of yet nowt concrete just a little tit bit. Maguire as booked and paid for 4 of his mates to fly out to world cup all blades lol jammy gits

Didn't he claim just the other day that we'd agreed wages for Gallagher?

Well I could've told Wilder that Hogan was a massive long shot.

It would be quite a joke if we wasted all this time and focus on these two and didn't get either of them.

Do we seriously expect players to take big pay cuts to join us? Why?

Yep, but that might not have owt to do with us being fked about. Gallagher waiting for a better offer perhaps?

Fk him if true of course

Same goes for Hogan.

If they don't want to come, then move on. Can't be doing with Prima Donas, especially when said players have done fk all recently and have something to prove. You would hope that they would jump at the chance to start playing regularly but obviously not

I wouldn't mind Gallagher but I'm not fussed about Hogan personally.

I'd rather we went in for Waghorn, Armstrong from Newcastle, and Moore from Barnsley as the big lad (when needed) as he had us on a plate in the match in April. Won everything in the air and was a right awkward sod for our lads at the back.

Oh, and we would probably be able to bring these three in (one older, one a young pup with potential, and one a big lad good in the air) for a damned sight less than G&H.

Someone previously mentioned Nahki Wells. He would be the one I would pay a little bit more for.

Who said anything about a pay cut?

Bad news this then....

After all the talk of them coming and the unrealistic building of peoples expectations. Who ever does come in is going to seem like a let a bit of a let down.

To be fair this always felt like a very long shot - people aren't going to give up 10k a week to play for a mid table championship side are they?

To be fair I posted that too Saturday morning, I was told by a very reliable source at Stocksbridge on Friday this was the case.

He was expected to fly out to Portugal tomorrow or Wed if all went to plan, obviously it`s not gone to plan!
