Bad news this then....

After all the talk of them coming and the unrealistic building of peoples expectations. Who ever does come in is going to seem like a let a bit of a let down.

To be fair this always felt like a very long shot - people aren't going to give up 10k a week to play for a mid table championship side are they?

Not sure I agree fella. If G&H arrived (And they still might) Then I would hardly be overly excited about the prospect. They're ok but they don't exactly get my juices flowing (especially for the money involved). Hogan has had a decent single season with Brentford and lived off that very handsomely, whilst the much coveted Gallagher....could hardly get a game with the relegation material that was Brum last season. I'm hardly salivating at the thought of either of them up front for us next season, but I will support em if they do sign.

Personally I think we can do so much better, especially for the money involved.

I will go with Wilders call on this one though as he knows what he's doing and I trust him.

To be fair I posted that too Saturday morning, I was told by a very reliable source at Stocksbridge on Friday this was the case.

He was expected to fly out to Portugal tomorrow or Wed if all went to plan, obviously it`s not gone to plan!

To be fair it took us 6months to get Holmes and Lenard sorted - did we really think we were about to sign 2 highly sort after players this quickly....

They are a level above where we are currently operating imo - we either pay them what they are after or look elsewhere at more realistic targets . They aren’t gonna take a pay cut to play for us.

I think the majority of our players will be loans this time round.

Fair points.

I feel like both would have done well with the amount of chances we create and have big upsides in terms of what they have been able to produce. We are looking at ‘untested potential’ with most of the other signings.

That said I’d we were paying millions in loan fees and the best part of 60k per week between them - there is certainly an argument that value for money is to be had elsewhere....

Armstrong / Danny ward would be cheaper with some pace. Naki Wells would be an ambitious target.

Are they highly sought after? Who else is in for them?

Are they highly sought after? Who else is in for them?

Maybe the wrong phrase but hogan went for 12m quid not long ago and if reports are to be believed Birmingham paid the best part of 2m just to loan Gallagher last year.

These are clearly assets to their respective clubs and to that end have expectations of wages based on that and the current inflated market.

If FFP kicks in and norrowsnthe amount of clubs willing to pay that level of fee we might stand a chance as they would have to adjust expectations but they are more likely to just sit out their current contacts imo

Are they highly sought after? Who else is in for them?

As it appears with many footballers on good contracts, most wish to sit on them at the same time as sitting on the bench

Money is king and it's rare these days that players take a pay drop to actually turn out and play the great game we all know and love.

The thing is, even taking a pay drop, they are still very well paid, so seems such a shame that the many just can't see beyond the £ sign

So both Hogan and Gallagher would be permanent deals then? Why would we need to negotiate wages with either, given they already have contracts? We would only be negotiating contributions to the host clubs were it loans.

Sadly even with loans we have to agree with the club they're at as to what wages we are prepared to pay. My guess is that United's contribution isn't as high as the parent club want and therefore the player effectively would be on less money playing fos us which isn't going to happen - I guess. As for permanent signings we can't match the existing deals and therefore the player needs to agree to drop to our wage demands and also agree with the existing club a pay off for the money they are set to lose by coming to us. That's my understanding anyway.

Makes you appreciate the players from League One and Two that are desperate to come and they're wages demands are easy to meet. Sadly that usually results in a crapper or more inexperienced player.

Surely wage differences would be offset with signing on fees???

After reading how much the court case is going to cost I doubt if we will be looking at players other than from Division 1.

Well yes, I say in my post we'd contribute towards the players' wages for a loan, but the player would have no role in that negotiation. We pay the player's club, not the player.

Apparently Gallagher earns £10k per week at Southampton but he asked for £18k a week to go on loan to Birmingham last season, maybe he’s expecting the same sort of deal again.

Just seen that. Utter fucking madness.

Shut my mouth.

What the hell is the thinking behind that?
You're not good enough to get into your own clubs side so you ask for a pay rise?
You also might need to be finding a new team soon so you price yourself out of the market as well!?
Owwwwwww agents. Worst things to ever happen to football.

I’ve no idea, I’ve never heard of it happening before but you’ve got to assume it isn’t the only time it’s happened.

Greedy Agent + Thick (and greedy) Footballer x Owners with more money than sense is the madness equation...

I stopped reading when it said £10k a week. Let’s move on to another target.

You're completely wrong, assuming you mean League 1, rather than the old Division 1 (the Championship), or the even older Division 1 (the Premier League).
But however vague and imprecise, you're wrong.

You have to take into account our Arry was throwing someone elses money around again. Another Club financially screwed after he's been in charge.

I find it hard to shake the feeling that having aspirations to sign the likes of Gallagher is probably a bad idea. We need to scout outside of the UK. Desperately. He's uninspiring, at best. And he's the zenith. Don't get me wrong, he could end up a very good signing, but he's done little to show that thus far (albeit he's still young).

This is exactly it, some club will get desperate and pay it. Only have to look over at S6 to see what happens when agents are told yes all the time. Of course there’s a danger to the player that no one will want him, but if he/they are making demands, I would think they have a few irons in the fire.

100% agree here.

If we want to be able to utilise our budget we’d do well looking abroad. There is much better value for money to be had - They won’t be demanding astronomical wage.

Look at the signings Huddersfield made with Schindler or billing or pascal gross for Brighton. They were signed for relative peanuts and probably half the wages Gallagher wants.

I’m coming round to the view that we can’t have someone on 30k and the rest of the squad on relative peanuts.

We’d be better expanding that scouting network and trying to get a forgiven bargain.

Agree with looking abroad ! English players have such inflated fees and wage demands. I can only guess this is due to the inflated wage environment they are brought up in. What is the going rate for U23’s in say the Bundersliga or even La Liga (discounting Real and Barca) ?

I never have and never will get the vitriol aimed at footballers for getting all they can with regards to wages. Whenever there is money to be had they have a right to earn it.

Not one person here would turn down a huge pay rise which would most of the time also result in playing at a better level too.
