A thoroughly decent man. Very knowledgeable but a man from a different era . Imagine Busby or Shankly managing in the prem now . How much of this bullshit would they stand for ? All the gobbing off , diving and VAR . I hope for his health and sanity he sits in the stands from now and bemoans the loss of the glory days of football that those of us old enough can remember.

Classy to the end which confirms he deserved better. The new way of managers getting sacked is unpalatable at best; media create pressure, ramp it up if their team loses, and then writes half-assed summary of how unlucky they have been when they inevitably get sacked, and then on to the next 'target'. As much as the whole process is unpalatable, is the lack of any 'pundits' calling it out, I have only seen Chris Sutton so far say anything remotely different to the 'party line' of 'it was time'' which fails to look at how it all unfolds.
