Prince Return

If memory serves right , when The Prince was trying to sell the club it was reported/suggested that he would like to remain in some capacity , so if he had previously discussed this with the new owners alot of the groundwork may already have been done
Personally I wouldn't be against this at all

Not against this the only criticism I could direct at the Prince was not having enough to progress us when we finished 9th in the Prem. That was a key time to try and push on. Other than that he was a very safe pair of hands and cares about the club
Exactly this. Some on here speak of PA like he's the devil incarnate. He had his faults, but he wasn't a horrible owner. Like you say, he cared about the club.

I rated the prince highly. He ran us through one of our most successful spells, the most successful spell I’ve ever seen United. But the way it’s all coming back is a bit tinpot. It’s like COH have shit the bed at the first sign of trouble and are getting the band back together.

Yep, it does say something about their decisions so far that they're resorting to bringing back PA and Wilder. Let's hope it works, for the sake of the club.

The prince did not run us particularly well.

He just benefited from McCabe bringing in Wilder.

Other than that what one thing from his spell could you point at?

Beerschot fans were getting games called off in protest against how their club was being run

We were limiting how much paint to use!!!

He made what finances he had available following the first prem promotion and held his nerve when it came to sales.

On the other side of that coin he gambled with the existence of club in the later part of his tenure culminating in a situation where we were dismantling the women’s team and not offering out contracts to senior men’s players.

This in addition to trying to sell us to actual conmen put the club in a position where if he hadn’t managed to get a sale when he did we might’ve been in a very very dark place. In addition to that the consequences of not being able to properly manage the squad during the later part of his tenure was the main contributing factor to the shocking second relegation campaign and the significant rebuild job that the club has had to try to do in the last 3 windows.

On the whole he oversaw a period of success for the club but to what extent that success was down to good process I’m not sure I think it’s more likely it was down to two managers doing the best jobs of their careers and is something we’d have been unlikely to repeat long term even if we could finance it. On top of that he was dangerously close to overseeing a catastrophe for the club.

I’m not sure that’s a basis on which to think his return would be a net positive for the club.

He also dared to do where McCabe didn’t,
Nobody will convince me McCabe would’ve put his hand in his pocket for Egan etc. in the promotion season. It goes without saying the prince had his faults as others have said. But I really do believe he had the clubs best interests at heart, infrastructure wise he rebuilt the club and brought it all back under one umbrella, ‘no Bigger blade than me rob’ split the club and stadium did he not?

The promotion season McCabe was still involved in you mean?! We sold brooks and reinvested really well but didn't spend every penny of that sale in the promotion season.

I don't particularly see why that's a huge positive for the Prince returning

Board meetings would be weird for Wilder, be like having a meeting with 2 of your exes who've dumped you

He's arguably been the best chairman we have ever had. Spent more money and had more "success" in his spell than anyone else. Also not sold players for peanuts, unlike McCabe etc.

He got good dollar on player sales (not something he learned from Bigger Blade) and made sure the money or most of it was reinvested -except the Hecky PL season but that was about keeping the club afloat and being competitive the following season in the Championship

No he just got solo ownership when we had completely new to us income streams. Yet within two years we were unable to pay the money he sanctioned to spend...

What's the odds on Prince coming back as DoF? 😂

For all his issues, I always felt that he learned from his mistakes and got better as time went on.

(Just to clarify, the first line was meant as a joke)

Well l’m glad l read the whole post rather than replying after the first line. I was going to go full Staton on your ass!

Wonder if COH are going to ditch the AI and join the old "united world" scouting system?
Although this has probably died a death now, I would have liked an alternative solution to how we go about scouting/delivering opportunities. The major problem with the AI system and the old "United World" system was the work permits and limits that we have. The club holder idea is a good one although the downside to that is you are potentially damaging a heritage or culture of another club.

He spent Macquarie’s money on some right shite. Most of it ended up leaving on frees.
