If Walker is going to play on the right of a back three, who will the other two be?
I don't see Tanganga in the middle or on the left...
Souttar in the middle ( think he will be back next year) and tanganga can play other side. Don’t see us moving to a back 3 though.

We’ve experimented with it a couple of times at the end of this season and wilder seems to be recruiting a few more centre midfielders. I wouldn’t write off him trying to make it work again next season.

I can see Seriki and Burrows fitting in as wingbacks, but would that rule Brooks out of the formation?

Hamza, Souza, Riederweld all able to cover as CB, Peck, Blaster, Riederweld, Rothwell, Souza and Hamza all able to cover in the middle. Light up top though, but I suppose we've got another season of getting Campbell fit and installing a new Operating System into Cannon.

We’ll see with the new signings we make. Don’t think we have a full back who can play the wing back role personally. McCallum is better at full back, not convinced by Burrows as a wing back, not good enough defensively imo. Seriki maybe as his pace gets him out of trouble

That’s assuming Brooks is still here next season, and to be fair he broke through playing in the middle during that premier league season.

Alternatively we sell Hamer & O’Hare and Brooks reprises the ‘Duffy’ no. 10 role with a more solid pairing of Reidewald/Rothwell/Arblaster behind him.

I understand the love for Souttar coming back it was nice while it happened but if were persevering with Tanganga we HAVE to get a new CB with pace.
Tanganga and Souttar would be agonising.

I can get on the excitement of Kyle Walker on the right of a back three.

I said at the match on Saturday - i don't think next seasons captain is even at the club yet. I think he's at Burnley haha
Tanga is not only a very average CB but also completely wrong for a captain

Also leaving McCallum as backup at FB (L), McGuinness at CB cover, Shackleton (why) RB/RW and Chong (?) looking at that you are assuming Hamer has gone. I think if we keep Peck, I don't think we have the wage capacity for Hamza, Souza, Rothwell and Jairo to sit on the bench even though they can cover a few positions, be easily £130,000 a week between them, on top of a "diluted salary" for Phillips, Bamford potentially needing new terms at some point next season too, along with anyone else we need to bring in to cover up top.

Yeah, you're right to mention McCallum etc. FWIW, that lineup was just the first I thought of. Including those you mention, Chong, Souza, Jairo, Hamza etc, we'd have the depth to be very flexible and retain the quality. Something we've not had this year. Our central 'quality' (T.Davis) in depth, was either injured or suspended (Philips)....

Light in midfield as well!

McCallum is a difficult one as I don't think we realised his defensive quality until he got injured and Burrows replaced him. When we had Seriki, Mee Tanganga/Bindon and McCallum we had that run of games where we looked solid especially with Jairo sat in front. Then you had the right partnership of Seriki and Brooks for creativity with the Bamford dropping in for options out to Hamer for centre and the Left and we started to look like a decent side. Wilder does have his tactics and preferences like any manager, I might be a bit old fashioned in a way but I do like the square back 4 with 1 or 2 sat in front and creating almost a diamond from there in front with either 2 up top or 2 DM's and Bamford dropping back to support a channel running striker.

Yeah I’d image if the idea is to reprise the 3-5-2 it’ll be Blaster and Rothwell as the 2 more conventional centre mids. Blaster in the Fleck role and Rothwell in the other whether he’s good enough on the ball to do that I don’t know and whether with a bit more time and proper preseason Blaster gets back to the player he was again an unknown.

If that is the idea then recruiting a midfielder who is more of a conventional playmaker from deep would be a priority in case Rothwell or Blaster isn’t up to it. Doyle would be the obvious choice as we’ve seen him do it before but hopefully we identify other hopefully cheaper options for that role as well.

Get over the lack of athleticism in midfield by just not having one at all?

Rothwell doesn't look up to anything....stunk the place out at Rangers and very little to show that he will do anything else at BDTBL....another great signing!

The board will be wanting to sign 19-24 year olds with high potential to sell on at a profit. Which I 100% think is the right idea. But Wilder will want tried and tested to deal with the demands. The best blend is getting youngsters in at 60% of the squad and “CULTURE CARRIERS” at 20% and another 20% of mid age signings that will peak with us. Be an interesting window. I reckon Wilder might walk if he doesn’t get his Bobs, Daves and Les’s through the door.

Hecky’s team was the right blend. Warnock’s 2002 to 2004 was also great, but I thought we had too many old old boys. The 96-98 team was very much 25-30 lower PL and High Champ calibre. I think if you get that mix of the above right you’re onto a winner.
