7th-sheffield utd:thumbdown:

8th, which considering the changes that need to take place would represent a successful season.

It's boring, but not that boring :emmy::rolleyes:

:croc:

If we finish bottom half we deserve to be put down!

If we finish above pigs we've had a good season. They're top 6 easy

Why so much optimism?

Really surprised at the confidence some have on here at the moment.

As it stands we have a rag tag outfit that will probably lose the few half decent players we still have left (reckon at least 2 or 3 out of Monty, Quinn, Williamson and Evans will depart before the start of the season).

That leaves us with some promising youngsters in Maguire, Slew, McAllister, Harriott, Long etc but in terms of senior players with injuries to Morgan, Taylor and Ertl we are only really left with the likes of Simonsen, Collins, Doyle, Yeates, Cresswell and Bogdanovic. These are all players the majority of Blades fans would like to move on.

With the dpeartures of Monty, Evans, Quinn etc we will go into the season with maybe the poorest looking squad in my lifetime of watching the Blades (began around 83/84) with basically the washed up veterans I have mentioned and some promosing but still very raw youngsters.

I would take mid table now and actually think we could be nearer the bottom than the top. May sound pessimistic but those fans saying 8th is a poor season or if we are bottom half they deserve to be put down; what are they basing a higher position on based on our current squad / future prospects with little/no funds and no sign of any major incoming players. I know we have no money but with less than 4 weeks to go to the start of the season we probably need 7 or 8 players at least in my opinion to even be competitive.

I hate comparing us to the neighbours across the city; and I know they brought in some over the hill veterans but the squad they began last season with is much better than ours currently and look what happened to them?

We have no goalkeeper of any quality (Long not ready yet), no experience at the back whatsover (Morgan injured), no creativity or pace in midfield and no reliable goalscorers.

Hopefully Wilson can get some bodies in quick and decide what is happening with Quinn, Monty etc. It seems since he has been appointed other than Henderson moving on and a fringe player coming in from Swindon; nothing has happened. I am not for one momemt blaming him but it is clear we are absolutely broke and until we find some takers for 3 or 4 of our high earners we are stuck with the threadbare mish-mash.

8th in League 1 would represent a successful season? Blimey, I knew things were bad but that's ridiculous.

Only in a historical sense is it ridiculous. In practical terms it would be very good.

All our (semi) decent players are going, and we've a half a squad to build on very little money, the other half being made up of kids.

It's an almost impossible job to complete in one season. And unless the pace of change quickens, next season could be a disaster.

Its going to be a stab in the dark and say not far off relegation based on the amount of squad building that is going on.

We like L**ds and a few other teams could be here a while.

Automatic, you have to be optomisitc before a ball is kicked in anger. After game one when realism sets in I will reassess my levels of optomisim.

I'm going to go for top 10 based on nothing but blind optimism mixed with a healthy amount of dread and fearing the inevitable.

I don't care where we finish next season as long as it's not in the bottom 4. But, i hope for stability's sake that we are a minimum mid-table outfit, so that the pressure is not heaped on Danny Wilson. This season is a write-off already, and it's going to a transitional one, so that we are in a much better shape for the season after.

The big worry for me, is that we'l begin the season relying far too much on youth players.

Much the same as most on here I think we'll be smack bang in the middle. Which wouldn't piss me off.

What will piss me off is Wendy going up, which is entirely possible...

I'm basing it on the fact that with a couple of players added, which is inevitable our first 11 is too good for the league when they're all fit. With a better manager last season we would've stayed up. The squad was good enough, they just didn't fight like they would have under Warnock or Blackwell.

It depends on how Wilson can get the players to gel. Maybe saying top 6 at this stage is optimistic as Wilson might be worse than Adams!

Really difficult to say at the moment but based on what we have on the books right now I would say mid table.

Whatever way I like to colour it up we were crap last season and we have signed two players since.

Take a few of the players on big wages out and I dont think there would be much difference, still mid table.

A few carefully considered signings and we might be able to push for playoffs.

I know that it's where we are but jesus, isn't it depressing to look at all the clubs in this division and think - yeah they'll be above us, and them, and them, and them, etc ,etc. We have no right to finish anywhere but I desperately hope for top 6 at least.

I tend to agree with Deadbat, our poor goals for only improved when Hendo returned with a young Slew chipping in with Hendo now gone our attack seems drained of goals again unless DW can change this we look very weak.

With a better manager last season we would've stayed up.

I agree..........with a different manager, eleven different players, better investment, better boardroom decisions, fewer injuries, better performances and a bit of luck we would have stayed up!!!!!

It'd be wrong to say I'd be "happy" if we stay up but I'd take it. Truth is, even the few optimistic fans will be fed up when we see Cresswell on the left wing, Simmo not talking to his defence and Ertl chasing shadows and the realisation ahits that we've learnt absolutely nowt.

I reckon the lane could be a fortress again which will put us in good stead.

The above post was based on nothing................NOTHING

I'd forgotten about Ertl. Was he signed on more than a one year contract?

Agree 100% with Deadbat. Blind faith is one thing that Blades supporters must have to keep doing what we do.
When reality sets in, most will realise that we are on a shit fest of mammoth propotions.
Pigs will be much stronger and better organised under the soporific Smegson.
There are many teams better equipped for life in Div 3 than ours.
I reckon lower half without significant squad enhancement - and we all know that isn't going to happen.

Prepare to get beaten at the Lane by teams like Yeovil, Rochdale or Hartlepool simply because our youth players will not have the experience at this level to cut out the mistakes.

>(began around 83/84)
didn't see the 81 team then?.. heh.. it was very similar.. talent sold.. rag tag past it veterans looking for a final payoff.. youngsters with no experience.. ex pig manager.. won the league..
