The true travesty of that game is that either club should remember the third division with any pride. Both Sheffield clubs getting 40k plus in league 1 is a disgrace that we were even at that level. We didnt get thrashed on boxing day although the 4 nil suggests we were.
It all went wrong and we brought the heavy defeat on ourselves.Rest of that season was a disaster .
No doubt we totally outclassed them and thrashed them really yesterday ! The only draw back was we didnt score a few more ! Should have been 6!!.
TBF replays show Ings was off by about 3ft,so easy ish call for the lino.I mean it's all shoulda woulda coulda but Tanga should certainly have been awarded a pen from that corner and Ings resulting goal from the retake is a bloody tight call. I THINK it was off by a whisker personally but the linesman could have so easily have let that go and let's be honest if we were actually any good in front of goal there should have been at least 3 more.
Amazing how quick a lino can flag an incredibly tight offside when they don't have VAR to back them up.
It could go like this.............The 8 days after St Valentines Day 8-0 Massacre.Don't agree?
Well here's a few comments from the neutrals:
"Tyrese Campbell scored twice as Sheffield United outclassed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0"
- BBC News
"United’s frustration at half-time was that they had not made more of their dominance"
- The Guardian
"Sheffield remains red after Sheffield United thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0"
- OneFootball.com
Owls - goals 0, shots on target 0
Blades - goals 3, shots on target 7
Could/should have been 5 or 6 - 0
Now, lets put Boxing Day '79 firmly to bed shall we?
We were outclassed , outfought and embarrassed by a good Weds team on the uptotally agree we had a great chance today to bury the bdm once and for all should have had 6 and agree with you i was there in 79 and no way that was a 4 - 0 result if it hadnt been for us hitting the crossbar then bolders unbelievable save from the follow up i think we would have won that day
I'd take that.It could go like this.............The 8 days after St Valentines Day 8-0 Massacre.

Boxing day was 28 years after our 7-3 and no one mentioned the latter in 1979, which is now 46 years ago.I think it was put to bed already. I don't think bouncing day will be topped in terms of entertainment. 3 nil away is certainly as big a brag as 4 nil at home.
How old would you need to be to have watched the boxing day game live and remember it? Becoming as relevant as our 7-3 win.
We could win 10-0 at the lane and people not even born when boxing day happened would still not accept it was "avenged" though. Leave them to it, they have nothing else.
No it wasn’t. It was as marginal as it gets.TBF replays show Ings was off by about 3ft,so easy ish call for the lino.
we certainly wernt outclassed they had a team of cloggers and our main asset sabella didnt want to know after jeff king booted him 6 foot up in the air in the 3rd minute so much for lanky neck saying they had no plans to mark sabellaWe were outclassed , outfought and embarrassed by a good Weds team on the up
