A preseason friendly really. Started quite lively but ended the first half struggling. Second half was a bit of a scrappy nonentity.

Barry was an early highlight. Lots of directness. Brooks did the same second half. A few nice touches and passes, but otherwise not much to show from the rest. A lot of sloppiness as well. Cooper's kicking was fully exposed. Nothing to suggest we'll be pushing for promotion but it is only a friendly though. I'm struggling to see Hamer's place in this formation. We look dangerous going forward but so soft in the middle and in defence. Too many players who are clearly not good enough.
who isnt good enough name them please

Some not good enough at the moment, some not going to be good enough. Not just from today.

A Davies
Grbic
Curtis
RND
Dovy
McAllum
Hampson
Jefferson
Ukaki
Moore
Shackleton
T Davies
Marsh
A Davies - crap
Grbic - crap
Curtis - development squad
RND - showing signs of improvement
Dovy - who ?
McAllum - not good enough
Hampson - needs games - loan

The RND one is baffling. The other two might have some involvement, but I think Ukaki is ahead of Jefferson.

Don't want to pile on the lad but what is Cannons best position?. Lad at work Leicester fan thinks im mad when I tell him so far he has been poor for us as he really rates him and wanted him to stay for their championship campaign. Im far from impressed.
Transfer list

My feed kept freezing but from what I watched up to now we've cracked the going forward problem we had last season, the next few signings will decide where we end up in the table, I'm fairly confident as we stand we'll achieve top 6 , but we need a CB, RB and a CDM all starting quality for top 2 !! And if I'm being greedy another quality centre forward.
Atm defensively
GK cooper, faxon
RB Seriki, new one
CB anel, bindon, (JLT and RND aren't the answer for back up)
LB burrows, mccallam
The young lads aren't ready yet they need another season
Attacking we're looking alright !!

Also I don't get the criticism of jeff and Ukaki these lads are looking better with every game, they've both come from a different culture and a lower footballing standard league . And need time to bed in .

Mcallem was terrible

Don’t really see what we got out of this game to be honest. Fitness maybe. The usual suspects that we already know aren’t good enough yet for the championship are not good enough for the championship!

Agree CH and RB essential. Souttar mark 2 for CH if we can find one. I like Anel but think he needs an experienced head next to him (and not Robbo) to get the best out of him. Surely Selles can see without at least decent CH recruit we are going nowhere this season .

I think Barry will do well for us but seems lacking in fitness at the moment. Second half was a bit shambolic. Probably still some growing pains to come with this new system.

Just read that Chesterfield lost to a quality team, how can that be, I thought they were playing the Blades

I think part of it also comes down to whether Selles is able to coach this squad to be better.

I think in the squad from today, there are only 2 names that I don't want anywhere near the squad and that is Grbic and Adam Davies. Neither (from any matches I have seen) look in anyway able to play a game for us.

Everyone else either has potential (pretty much everyone under the age of 25) or has a role to play in the squad.

It's very clear we aren't going to be a Wrexham or a Birmingham and just start throwing some money about.

What we seem to be doing is bringing in potential which hopefully across the season we can make better. Ukaki, caceres, our academy players, all look half decent.

Mccallum has some really good strengths (he's brave, he can jump like a grasshopper and he's fairly quick).

Really hoping that selles is what it appears he might be, someone who can coach and mould and improve players.

Sure he is

He shouldn't be near the first team this season but he's still only 19, shouldn't give up on him yet
I think Curtis is one for the future. Give him another season out on loan gaining experience & building his confidence and I think we’ll have a great player on our hands.
He’s looks solidly built and has the desire to get up & down - needs to make better decisions & build his fitness to play at this level.

I get the exact opposite feeling. Think he’s intending to go with Anel Robinson Bindon and Dovy with RND filling in.
You might be right, you might be wrong. This window has left us guessing more than I've seen in years. As long as we bring in players that contribute and not become a" they played for us, when?" type. And thus happy to be wrong.

McAllum is as good as we r going to get for a back up left back. There r much more pressing needs for what now appears to be a limited budget.

Most importantly a CDM unless Peck is earmarked for that role and i think he will play their v Bristol City irrespective as the Portugese kid isnt going to get thrown straight into the team

Secondly a CB. Bindon looks decent but we still need a big f off CB who is going to clear everything out

Thirdly rigjt back...we don't have a back up so that is a must fill (we lost Gilchrist and Clarke who were no great shakes but we're way better than what we now have)

Anything else on top is a bonus

I like McCallum even if he was poor today. Seen enough of him to know he’s someone I want in the squad next year. I think he’s actually never been given a proper chance at a club and when he does he’ll do well. If I was him I’d be desperate to leave and play first team
He was poor last week and even worse today🙈

We are definitely a bit short atm to be able to get anywhere near the points total we achieved last season. But we have had some quality loans the last few seasons so expect (hope!) we address the spine of the team (CH, defensive midfielder and striker) plus a RB please.
