Pitch invasion - club say to stay off pitch

No. But NOT going on the pitch after promotion to the PL is a pretty good indicator of not being passionate.

*Apologies to the Not Mathematically Certain brigade, but if we win, we are promoted.

Bollocks

I won't even be there due to cost but bet I'm twice as passionate as any knobhead running on the pitch.

So, how do we all define ''passionate supporter''?

You sir, in the cardigan and slip-on brogues....

Give Lord Wilder Mr Sinclair's mic. Let HIM personally tell people to stay off the bleedin pitch or he'll resign.......and ban the lot of the attention seeking, look at me, i can do as I like twats for 5 years.

Those players, and staff deserve their laps of honour. Show them that respect.

It is possible be a lifelong, loyal supporter without behaving like a twat.

My fear today is that some dickheads will try to run on to the pitch after we score our first goal, which would not only get the club into trouble but also cause the players to lose focus.

Didn't Brian Clough once clobber a fan who ran on to the pitch at Forest? I wouldn't blame Chris Wilder if he did the same.

Spray all the invaders wi orange paint then pick em off as they try to leave.

Or just let the players meet the fans not the other way round. I want to be off out of the ground asap (after the lap of honour) and start celebrating in a pub.

That’ll be why we signed Madine then

Anyone recall the first win of the 1990-91 season?
22 December
First win in the 1st Division.
3-2 v Nottingham Forest (Bryson2, Deane)
Cue.....

Has their ever been a pitch invasion so early in the season?

If we win 1-0 today, that has to be a minimum of 12 goal difference. Do you think Leeds can make up a 12 goal difference in 2 games?

I don't.

Yes it's "mathematically possible" but it's not happening mate, trust me. Remember though this is all about if we win today, not if we draw today, or lose today.

I also think that a win today will mean promotion. I am very sure of it, but just to point out that if Leeds beat Villa by one more than we beat Ipswich, then we have a mare at Stoke - an early sending off, out of sorts, lose 3-0. Leeds will have to go to Ipswich and score 6 or 7. Consider that they will know that's their only chance, that they will be instructed to camp in the opposition box and shoot and shoot and shoot - and it's against Ipswich, it isn't impossible. (No, I don't think it will happen).
The solution to it is that we beat Ipswich by at least 3 goals, which I hope we do, there's no reason we can't.

It's actually an outpouring of joy and emotion and a tribute from the fans to the players,
It generally isn't though, that's a very romanticised take on it. An invasion - a proper invasion as opposed to going onto the pitch after the game has finished - is a carryover from the old days when ninety odd percent of supports were blokes, PC hadn't been applied to the chants and hooligans were still a part of the scene. We're nostalgic about those times and running on the pitch to celebrate is one of the better things. But we can't manage to do it in a way that everyone finds acceptable, times have changed. We can't separate out the knobs, so people don't want the version that we get - nor do the authorities, nor does the club. That the club doesn't want it should be enough for everyone.

and it's happened on many occasions over the years, not just when we've been promoted. It's never caused a problem. No one has got hurt, or banned, as a result of it. The club haven't been fined over it or had points deducted.
Are you sure about that? No one ever been hurt? No one ever been banned? The EFL are not going to continue to forbid it, have that instruction ignored, time and time again, and not do something about it. One day they will. One day one club's set of fans will have their dreams devasted - it will probably involve a fan punching a referee or something stupid. Do you really trust all the Blades who have a mind to run on the pitch that not one of them would do something that stupid - for the kudos with his mates?

This's the dividing line then is it?

Go on pitch after promotion confirmed = great Blades.
/
Go on pitch when promotion is inevitable = morons/scum/inadequates.

Yep, that's totally reasonable.
If Chris Wilder and Billy Sharp came to your house and personally asked you to not go on the pitch, would you tell them to fuck off as you’re a massive Blade and you’ll do as you please?

Go on the pitch when expressly asked not to = a bit of a self-centred tit, really.

Of course he would. He’ll take no shit from bottlers and the spineless.

I feel that collectively we are working towards the criteria of what makes the bestest blade.

Good work all,

I look forward to seeing the paper and resulting 9 point test at the end.

Some reyt miserery guts on here Christ name me one team who’s won promotion that hasn’t run on the pitch

Chill we’re goin up

I bet the majority of fans on here moaning about running on the pitch were at the fabled Leicester away all those years ago when thousands stood on the pitch before the final whistle

The middle classes have taken over. They don't invade the pitch at rugby or cricket, so why do it at a football match? Remember to just stand and clap when we score

I think only a line of police will stop it and if there is a genuine risk of EFL docking us points, the club to make sure the police do exactly that !

Think today is set fair for a day of madness can feel it as long as It doesnt include the result Bring it on!!!

If the Club, players, EFL alike want you on the pitch then they would say so. THEY DONT!!!!

What part of that don't people understand?
Celebrate in the stands ffs, what's wrong with that?

Is "doing as you please" more important than potentially ruining the day?

16 pages later and some are still sure that running onto the pitch displays passion and is a true indicator of who the big Blades are.

But it absolutely does display passion and therefore we must do it so that the rest of the footballing world can pat us on the back, or something along those lines.

Wilder says don’t go on the pitch
that’s all you need to know :)

Wilder has to say "DON'T GO ON THE PITCH" !!!!
It doesn't mean he will be upset, terrified, narked or anything else if people did.
He knows what's coming if we win, he knows it and everybody else knows it. And nobody gives a toss

Could you imagine Wilder doing a Clough and smacking a few fans who have gone on the pitch.

Btw I haven't seen any official request from the Efl for Norwich fans not to invade the pitch
Are we just assumed yo have reprobate fans who'll definitely run on

Exactly, nobody cares about anybody running on the pitch to celebrate promotion, in fact it's expected.

The authorities, club officials, police, players and managers stance has to be "Don't run on the pitch" otherwise what else are they going to say.
Nobody actually cares a damn about it as long as it's good natured which promotion celebrations tend to be.

I was at a game at the City Ground when Forest played a European tie against Celtic.
It was pre Hillsborough disaster and there must have been 20,000 Celtic fans in the stadium on all four sides and another 100,000 in Nottingham trying to get in by whatever means possible.

It wasn't exactly a pitch invasion but the barriers at the front gave way and thousands of Celtic fans poured onto the pitch, but they stayed behind the goal.

Cloughie was out of his seat and running towards the Celtic fans to give them a piece of his mind when a Celtic player grabbed hold of him and obviously said something like "I wouldn't do that if I were you"

I actually think Wilder will be a bit pissed off because it won’t yet be official. I can imagine he’s ‘make sure it’s done before you start counting your chickens’ sort of guy.

Leeds will have to go to Ipswich and score 6 or 7.

But remember, L**ds are shit. They might have a lot of shots (139 in the last 6 games), but they can barely only got 24% on target (34 in the last 6 games). Of those they actually get on target, they have only scored 21% (5 goals in the last 6 games). If you work the figures in the opposite direction and they need 6 goals, it means they'd need 167 shots on target against Ipswich, just under 2 shots per minute. I'll grant you,if there are several minutes of injury time, the rate starts to drop. I know it's foolish, but I'm mildly confident.

As for going on the pitch, well, I did at the end of the game at Leicester. In European mode, I generally do at the end of every season because it's part of the celebration. It's not feared or outlawed. The same in England, it was part of the end of the season whether there was something to celebrate or not.

There are plenty of comments along the lines of "celebrate in the stands, what's wrong with that?" and sure, I'd be expecting that as how I'd celebrate, but I'd also ask the question of "what's wrong with celebrating on the pitch?" Why is it really an issue?

Chris Porter has scored for Crewe so I guess that settles it...we’re on the pitch!
