I'm not one to normally overshare on social media, but what's LinkedIn for if not for networking and sharing experiences, so here we go...

2024 has been a mad one. It was the year I turned 30, which means i'm now ancient in terms of the dressing room.

In May we lost our dog, which hits you like a steamtrain. Then, 3 weeks later I lost my Dad. It was the first time in my life where I experienced proper grief.

We were relegated from the premier league and it was the end of my 5 year spell with Sheffield United, which came totally out of the blue. So all of a sudden i was a free agent for the first time in my career.

I signed for Derby County, the team who I last played for as an 8 year old and the first team my Dad took me to watch. I genuinely didn't think I'd ever play for the Rams but as soon as they came in, both my head and heart said yes.

In October the tragic news about my former teammate George Baldock came through, which first made me numb and then completely shifted my perspective. Life's short - and some things really aren't worth stressing about.

In the midst of all this, our company, EFD Sport & Education has turned from a small start up, to a functioning business that plays a part in changing the lives of so many young people.

One of the core skills that we focus on with students is resilience and 2024 has certainly needed a lot of that.

Whether that be professionally - dealing with injuries, relegation and rejection.

Personally - The loss of loved ones, stress and anxieties.

Business wise - Overworking & fear of letting other people down.

All in all 2024 has been eventful. Surround yourself with good people, keep perservering and grow from every experience.

Okay, bore off now Ben. Happy New Year ✌️.
