Osborn gone

I think Osborn was seeking first team assurances and the lad was probably disappointed with the answer…My theory is that Derby have shown him a bit of leg and spiked his interest…I think this new owner malarkey is a load of bollocks.
Agree

On his day he puts a good shift in but like most of our players he’s inconsistent, personally I’m neither happy or sad if he stays or not we need a clear out I appreciate that we are short on funds but if we do nowt we get nowt!

im the same with osborn he can stay or go for me but even if he stays he cant be anymore than 2nd or 3rd choice for lwb and i dont see him fitting in to midfield hes just not good enough having said all that hes been a great servant to the club always giving 100% which is more than a few of our players can say after last seasons debacle

I'd keep him for his versatility. Yes he does nothing brilliantly but lots of things well enough to cover different positions.should we be trying to improve on him yes of course but takeover or not we need a load of new players. Getting rid of one who has the personality and character of osborn. Always trying, never hiding, before anyone better comes in feels premature. If he goes GLTTL better players than him have had worse seasons than he has this year.

Doesn’t mean anything of the sort.

I would guess what’s happened is the club (Wilder) have decided instead of activating his one year option on the same wages, to try and stretch the budget we’re offering him a new 2-year contract on a lower weekly wage. He’s mulling it over along with his other options as an out of contract player is entitled to do.

What’s he done to be a great servant ? He seems a good lad and works so hard but great servant ?

So he wasn’t retained because of more austerity measures within the club…This ain’t looking good.

I was getting my hopes up that someone that could spot a player (as well as obvious L1 players like Osborn) had taken over the club's recruitment

He wasn’t retained because for us to take up the option on him would’ve seen us continue to pay him his Premier League wage, which obviously wasn’t worth it. We’re in discussions to keep him on but on a lower, more realistic wage.

Week 1 create story.
Week 2 create scenario ther invalidates last story.

Great way of filling newspaper inches whilst the actual story is nothing has changed and nothing has happened.

Textbook!

Think that's the most logical conclusion from the "free transfer ongoing discussion" statement from the club.

Nixon's first post that we had decided not to trigger the extension was technically true, altho he apparently had no idea we'd done that and offered him a new contract or are currently discussing it with him.

Danny Hall was the one who said the prospective new owners had influenced the decision not to trigger Osborn's option which now looks like fake news unless he claims the consortium were the ones that requested a lower salary contract instead of the one year extension?

Nixon's latest tweet about being able to offer Osborn a new contract should the takeover happen is just weird because he knows we're already in contract discussions with him without the takeover being complete so what he said can't possibly be true.

The one year extension would have a premiership wage as an option it would still have a relegation clause
So we are offering a wage over a longer period 2 years instead of 1 and a vastly reduced salary basically around a 40% cut on the relegation clause - with the carrot of av3 year deal

2 year

One thing I don't quite understand is why we'd have to pay his PL wage if we do want to keep him.

Surely every player at this club will have a relegation clause in their contract, thus their wage being lowered somewhat in the event of relegation? Especially a player like Osborn who has been with the club for 5 years now, more particularly this stretches back to the last time we were in the PL.

Watched the Barnsley v Derby match last night. Osborne came on as a substitute. He was playing left back (I think). Wasn't very impressive and was clumsy for one of Barnsley's goals. Barnsley won 4-3, good match.

When this thread was bumped, I was sure it was going to be him being injured at Derby!

A lot of negative stuff was said about our fans regarding the reception we gave Jebbison but Osborn’s ovation as he left the field saturday showed everyone how we feel about players who put a proper shift in at bramall lane. I think Osborn was probably better than some people remember at times, but there’s not one blade who would say he didn’t put anything other than 100% in every week.

True, he got a big ovation from the lkpp when he took a corner too.

When I saw he was playing central midfield for them I had a little smile as I thought they can't be very good. Je did alright too but it was a shame for him that he gave tje free kick away tjsy resulted in their goal
