Our regular keeper in my first few years watching the Blades .

His understudy was Fred White who I Iater got to know through business . He was a staunch Blades supporter who lived to the ripe old age of 90 and still had a season ticket in the South Stand well into his 80’s .

They were followed by the great Ted Burgin who like Hodgy , compensated for his modest height by having a wonderful spring and agility , which resulted in him not only being able to make many outstanding saves but also a very good command of the 6 yard box .

Yes from 1955 until becoming scout in February 1971

The pavilion should never have come down, would have made a real landmark, bit like Craven Cottage.

Imagine that today as the club shop, café / bar or even an exclusive hotel.

Red sleeves. It was the County Cup final at Barnsley in 1949. Supposed to be Jack Smith's last match but he did play a few more games the following season
