1971-72 Aug. 21, A V Everton, WON 0-1, Woody. TOP of the league Div. One.
Trevor Hockey upsetting Joe Royal & Alan Ball. Pass on the feller on the far left.

First away game I went to. I was only a young 'un and went with three blokes my mum and dad knew but we had tickets in the home stand. I remember we jumped up when Woody scored and were met with a barrage of abuse. Marvelous.

Incidentally, I remember looking at The Green Un when I got home that night and we were top of the first division and the Pigs were bottom of the second. Magical days, they really were.

Yes.
They really were.

I presume that the building on the right of the photo is the old cricket pavilion?
So the area in front is where the South stand would be built?
The cricket pitch would have been between the pavilion and the football pitch
fantastic picture

The pale patch of grass to the right of the halfway line is the cricket square.

I got to hear the score from that game on a train in Bristol Temple Meads station.
We were on our way home from a typical parent planned holiday in north Devon. I missed the first two home games because of it. We had four seats with a table on the train so I placed my United holdall on the table only for the four lads across the aisle to put a pig bag on theirs. It was due to one of the pigs who had a transistor radio who was picking up the final scores that I learnt that we'd won and gone top of the league.
Next up, Arsenal away. 😉

The pavilion should never have come down, would have made a real landmark, bit like Craven Cottage.

Imagine that today as the club shop, café / bar or even an exclusive hotel.

I’m sure only the SS car park is there now.
