Some don't feel like good signings currently of course. But not entirely wasted.

But my point was he was told joc would be fit for this season and then relapsed and went in for op.

He wanted a replacement. Can't find exact quote right now with it being September. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/ideal-candidate-replace-jack-oconnell-sheffield-united-prepare-life-without-their-influential-centre-half-2988244?amp

And then commenting on the lack of arrival post sept window. https://www.sheffieldunited.news/op...with-comments-about-oconnell-replacement/?amp
The second link you posted, the first paragraph is:
Chris Wilder appears to have made a dig at the Sheffield United board for not backing him in the last transfer window.

Although the club’s transfer record was broken yet again with the arrival of Rhian Brewster from Liverpool.

Complaining about not being backed but next paragraph saying how the transfer record was broken, should have seen the writing on the wall then for the relationship, seems like CW wanted to have his cake and eat it too, all the while being the highest paid employee himself

Also I'd imagine in a long managerial search, leaking that the caretaker is a possible candidate I'd imagine is a message to the players too that they arent just sat under a lame duck, but potentially the one calling the shots come the summer, and to pull their finger out.

I'd imagine it's worked elsewhere, just seems our players seem to be too far gone to pull any performances in

Where's Knill btw?

I always thought it was a joint management post, but since Wilder resigned there's no sign of him. He's presumably still at the club, still getting paid, and dodged all of the blame. Heckingbottom has been thrust into the limelight and is getting pelters whilst Knill is at home on his sofa recanting "Nothing to do with me, Nothing to do with me" repeatedly as the pay slips keep coming in.

As Assistant Manager how on earth has he got away with it?

Must be made of Teflon that bloke.

Is he deffo still at the club? They offered him a new contract a few weeks back didn't they but no news on if he signed it.
I expect he will follow wilder whenever he goes somewhere. Heckingbottom is in a less than ideal situation. But I just mainly think he's not showing that he's the man. Which is fine too, I hope!

Garbage. Wilder wasted a good budget on players we didn’t need and most of whom are clearly not good enough.
Hindsight is a lovely thing but if you break down the window there were a lot of mis-allocated funds:
Foderingham - played once. Looks inadequate. Not needed.
Ramsdale - having a reasonable end of season, after a poor start. A lot of money on a keeper. Could have been better spent elsewhere with a loan or lower cost keeper.
Max Lowe - Not needed. Selections since support this.
Jayden Bogle - showed early promise going forwards, now his defensive weakness is being exposed, though he was needed after Freeman moved on.
Burke - headless chicken. Not needed.
Brewster - not up to the level. Not needed.

I think if we'd stuck with Bogle, got a cheaper goalie, possibly a loan, focused far more seriously on JOC replacement in say, Colley at 8m and improved the midfield athleticism the money would have been better spent.

At the time we bought Berge, we were linked with Florian Grillitsch and Mady Camara. I'd rather have got one of those, improved the reliability of the midfield for 20m and spent the rest on a decent left footed centre half as per above.

Chris was also all too willing to push Billy aside the past few seasons. If we upped our chance creation he would have still shown his worth. He got 5 goals on scraps. If he has a decent midfield behind him, what could he have achieved?

It can't be Heckingbottom for me.

Haven't seen anything to suggest he should be the next manager.

I've seen enough with team selections with what he has at his disposal to suggest Heckinbottom would be a mistake.

Don't have a problem with him and united not playing any juniors in the 1st team for the remaining games.

He expressed an opinion to go back to the juniors after his caretaker roll - that is where he should go - we need to maintain the junior structure as it seems to be in good fettle at the moment with the staff they have.

There's two theories with Jokanovic for me.

He's either never been on the shortlist to begin with and his name was just being thrown around by his agent/press.

Or he's been talked to, he's told the board he'll need £20-30m to realistically challenge next season on top of being the best paid manager in the championship and the board have crossed his name off before he'd even hung the phone up.

My guess would be the latter
Pertinent word being “guess”.

None of us know, some have higher expectations than others though.

Let's not go down that route, eh? I'm not Stephen Bettis. I don't have his notebook with 5 names written on it. But at no point has any BAME candidate been linked to the job at all.
Champagne you seem agressive and to be honest clueless

I am clueless about who is on this supposed list of 5 in terms of being certain. That's the point I was making, not intentionally aggressive, power of the written word, perhaps? But the local journos seem to think they have an idea so you can form an impression from their writings - Hecky, Tindall, Blessin, Appleton, possibly Terry and though they ruled him out (the locals), Jokanovic gets a few mentions from Alan Nixon.

I'm of the opinion that the best person for the job gets the job. But I come across a desire to push for diversity in recruitment in my daily work and it does create a challenge. In positively favouring one group, you might negatively discriminate another.

I'm aware there is a desire to ensure BAME coaches get a fair shot at roles where in the past there was higher discrimination causing barriers to entry and this had been widely written about.

Just curious if this factor came into our recruiting consideration in terms of the shortlist. If we were an EFL team I understand it is already a consideration.

That's all. No agenda from me. I just hadn't seen this talking point covered.

Wilder had plenty of time to get a replacement in for JOC but didn’t. Instead he wasted a very decent budget. He then bottled it and turned us ultra cautious making us one of the worst PL teams in history. And then he walked out on the club. Fact.

You were factually incorrect. You said it was "garbage" that he wanted a JOC replacement. I've provided the quotes that prove that you were wrong. What is the point in debating if when someone provides the evidence the other poster (in this case you) can't admit that they were wrong? The JOC diagnosis came after most (if not all?) the other signings were made. Is Chris Wilder Mystic Meg?

More garbage.

The last thing we should be doing is employing someone just to tick a box. This is our most important appointment in a long time and we need to get it right, not just be seen to be acting all virtuous.

Said exactly the same over the weekend. Plus, we have to be realistic and if we get turned down by our top choices and/or Brexit regs mean we cant make it happen, then Twattinbottom and Twatdell might be our only option.

We'd look even more like a bunch of nobheads if we'd said they weren't under consideration but then had to appoint them!

I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist, but with the dearth of talent that is currently being linked to the vacant managers job at BDTBL. I’m starting to wonder maybe a Lazarus style return could be on the cards for Chris Wilder. Its a bit left field, It just maybe our once beloved former manager might simply be on gardening leave to get its head straight?
Crazy? Deluded? Just plain daft?...Maybe. But with some of the names being bandied about, I’m so praying for a monumental U turn

I think the people who have previously questioned who would want to come here are probably closest to the mark.

We've probably enquired about some names but see it as a hiding to nothing and the available choices we have remaining are Heckingbottom, Tindall and the likes.

Heckingbottoms public promotional push about "who wouldn't want to manage this club" is probably key.

However as they say, money talks... over to you Princey

Rumour saying board have asked Hecky to put a plan in place for the Chamionship next season

FFS, it’s looking more and more like this fella every day if true

Worrying

If it is going to be Hecky next season then he needs to perk up a bit !!

I’m not saying go all ‘Brian Clough’ and start clipping supporters, just show some passion man !!

He should go all Di Canio and start clipping the players.
