New head scout - Jamie Hoyland

I think people are failing to understand that football clubs, especially the one the size of Everton are complex entities.

Jamie was a scout there. He will have not had final say on any single transfer they made. His role will have been merely to recommend players within a certain set of parameters. Like it will be when he works for us.

I think some people imagine scouts going out, finding players totally independent of what the club ask for and doing a deal right there and then. It’s not Jimmy Muir getting signed for United from Hallam FC.

Let's give him a chance and see what we get. Valid points being made regarding a DOF and what the process has been previously with regard to transfers. Let's hope its an improvement from the shambles over the last 4 or 5 seasons. If he is the guy that found Beto at Everton then his judgement looks OK from a distance.

The power struggle over who has final say on a signing will be the biggest worry. The Prince and United World guy should take a back seat.

Slimane ( Not making an impression)
Traore ( Too raw )
Coullibaly ( didn't make an impression)
Larouci
Thomas.
etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,.

It's says alot when Jack Robinson and Ben Osborn who realistically were bought as squad fillers have now been elevated to being amongst our better players. The only way is up.
A lot made of structure but you just need competent people.

If the DoF makes a mess of it, initially it’s more likely the manager who ends up getting the bullet and it can make for awkwardness when players someone else chose end up not performing.

Hoyland has experience working for a big club at the highest level so let’s hope that shows in his pedigree.

We got Mitchell from Chesterfield. Hoyland comes in, latterly from Everton, so you do hope that means he knows his onions.

Time will tell.

Agreed. That is the challenge finding competent people. The stats need to be complimented with accurate match assessment. Strengths and Weaknesses. We have very few players that don't have a glaring weakness. That should have been spotted before we bought them.

Our issue is can we afford to sign players without glaring weaknesses. Arguably the success we’ve enjoyed recently has been off the back of constructing sides which mitigate players weaknesses and maximise their strengths. To find players without weaknesses within our budget you’re looking at either developing them ourselves and even then our youngster that really standout below the age of 16 get poached or doing our best to poach them young from elsewhere.

There's very few players without glaring weaknesses. We also happen to be playing in a league where every opposition side is pretty good at identifying said weaknesses and, for the most part, exploiting them. That's the difference to the Championship. In the PL, any team can look at Egan and think "ooh, that's a goal or a red card waiting to happen if he's up against pace" and actually have the players to exploit it.

We got Mitchell from League two and Hoyland from the Premier League.

We have to realise that Mitchell was good for us especially in League one. But since Wilder first appointment we have really kicked on. From floundering in League one to unhappy with draws jn the Premier League. We need big changes and different expertise like people who can ideally find premier league players a year or so before they breakout into them.

Yep there’s not many strikers outside the top flight with the combination of speed, touch and agility to consistently expose Egan and I’d argue there probably aren’t any playing with midfielders capable of playing the types of balls needed to consistently put those players in advantageous situations.

There will be players out there who can be signed and developed into complete players within budget but we wouldn’t be getting them ready made so to speak.

Where has this ex Blade slander come from? I get we want to spread the net a little further but people get laughed at for us wanting Walker, Adams, Ndiaye, Henderson etc. So what?
People moaning because Wilder has bought British in the past as well, you think he wouldn't want or play a Brazilian wonder kid if we had one? There's shit abroad as well, look at Benie, Souza and Yasser Larouci.
Is Lester the best coach? No idea, will Hoyland be the world's greatest scout, not sure, but Wilder is the best manager I've ever seen at the Lane and if he thinks a few ex Blades make us stronger, why even shoot that down?
Ya miserable lefties 😅

So they wouldn't be Premier league standard players ? 🤔

Let go from his role at basket case Everton whose recruitment for the last few years has been pathetic, straight in as head for us.

Ex blade, friend of the manager, I’ve heard this story before.
Gonna end in tears … luck at the state of Evertons recruitemnt

Which is exactly what Villarreal said about Ben Brereton Diaz, they took him on a free transfer he failed to score for them, then they shipped him out on loan.

So now we have his glaring weaknesses to contend with.

A few mentions about Unsworth on here and him finding DCL et etc.

Have people forgotten that JH was United's Academy manager

Thathas to be the stupidest thing I've ever read on the Internet barring Donald Trump.
Now the Donald as Chair cool. He likes red and stripes so no problem there, Sheffield first yep we'll take that, build a wall mentality, yep certainly need one this season and no Chinese players yep he likes that too. We'll be all brash and the new 'massive' in Sheffield.

Oh and it'll cost you £100 to get in  Trump Blades FC

I think we all would agree that most of our transfer dealings have been poor over the last number of years. Every player will have strengths and weaknesses?, the problem has been some of what we have signed don't have even basic skills in their weak areas. Bogle has zero positional sense when defending. Lowe likewise but you can add tackling ability. Brewsters work rate, positional sense and lack of movement to open up play. Traore and Slimane not anywhere the level required in any area of their game.

I don't believe you need to spend lots to build a decent team. We didn't for Wilders promotion.
We just need people who can properly analyse a player.

BBD is one of our better signings. He shows decent movement and good anticipation. He also is clever in winning free kicks. It may be other issues affected him at villareal. In no way could you class him as Oliver Burke like. I was referring to other players. Bogle Lowe, Thomas Larouci Slimane Brewster and Archer. I think Archer has talent but why did we spend money on someone who isn't fast enough to get away on the counter attack. Everyone knows we are going to have little possession and playing on the counter is our only viable option.

If our new head scout was Manchester Cities European scouting manager I bet we would all be over the moon.

Until we found that he is non other than John Gannon, with all the Bladey Blade non-sense that would bring.

Gannon left for Sheffield United thereby joining his former Wimbledon boss Dave Bassett, initially on loan during the 1988/1989 season, before signing permanently on a free transfer for the start of the 1989/90 season. Gannon was particularly strong with his left foot and also took corners and free kicks, setting up goals regularly during Gannons time at United. Gannon was part of the Sheffield United team that achieved two successive promotions and was a regular player in the old First Division for the Blades.[3]

Then we could find something else to be negative about.
