What an interesting thread. Based on rumour and very little fact or knowledge.

1) No announcement about his appointment
2) No announcement about any actual role
3) Speculation about his success or not at Everton
4) No facts about his precise role at Everton, Chief Scout, Head of Recruitment, Ball Boy, who knows?
5) A misguided belief that the Blades are suddenly the mot prestigious club to join in the whole world, realism no much in evidence.

So all in all, its rubbish.
JH was head scout for the European area covering Holland Belgium etc but had covered South America. Started as U23 head of recruitment after scouting young English players for the international set up.

He credits himself for finding Dom Calvert Lewin and Braithwaite amongst others.

It appears he was let go by Everton in August last year after the DoF cleaned house throughout the club.

Non FACT , seems to have a similar personality to Wilder. Can see sparks flying and sides being taken if/when a scapegoat is needed.

It's the always have too have a blade connection that gets me.
We must be the only club that thinks like that in the world of football.
When Wilder gets sacked you know a big chunk of our fan base will be calling for Sharp to be appointed manager or Montgomery because apparently they get the club and will get us fired up.
Football has changed dramatically but we are stuck in the 90's with preferring passion over Skill, Athleticism and ability.

The club needs a complete reset moving away from this obsession ex players and managers unfortunately a big chunk of our fan base will never give it time to happen.
We've had 3 years out of 5 in the top Division

Didn't we find DCL?

For Everton he means, obviously, but l take your point.

Still, he’s not through the door yet and you’ve found a neg. :)

Hopefully JH comes in with a robust plan and we hit the ground running with signings this summer, given we've known what division we will be in next year since last April.

Someone call a Jesuit priest, he’s possessed again! Your mother sucks etc etc etc

Quite amazing that Wilder got us from league one to the PL then really.

We can never have Kyle Walker back either.

Billy Sharp was rubbish.

But I see your point - never appoint an ex Blade because they have no quality

Anti Bladey Bledeness, may also have issues.
Thats not really the point I was ever trying to make but i understand why people have jumped on it and are upset (i made a snide comment without explaining anything).

There is an mindset at the club that you can only do well if you’ve played or been part of the club before. It’s as if we are a drastically different operation or culture to other clubs and other people would struggle to click here. We put a lot of weight on this with recruitment of staff in senior positions. There are elements of this that are nice, and have benefits. I am sure each club does have a slightly different culture. I just don’t think it’s as important as the club think. it doesn’t really happen to this level at any other club, they pick the best person for the job regardless of club history most times.

The issues I have with it is that if we are ever to evolve as a club and be a more modern footballing culture than it’s much harder to achieve when you are picking people who were at the club 10-20 years ago and we’ve historically been a poor footballing club. It’s also a much smaller talent pool of people (my biggest issue with it). That doesn’t mean there aren’t good blades, just it’s an absolutely tiny pool of people to pick from.

This is a dig at the ethos of the club (which is a bit stuck in the past) and 100% not a dig at the new guy who we’ve just hired. Like you have outlined, and others, good talented people can be blades, but much more numerous talented people exist outside of that.

My final comment on it. I hope this guy is a success, obviously, i was vocal about a change in this department so i’m all for the change. It would be good to see us less reliant on ex players, there is a world of talent beyond this.

This thing about bladey bladeness is probably the most bladey bladeness thing of all

Bit odd that one. Unsworth was in the United youth set-up when Calvert-Lewin was coming through and then brought him in when he was at Everton. You would think that there wasn't any need For JH to 'find' him when Unsworth was already well aware of DCL.

That’s why l phrased it as l did……

Though we also have a mindset that you can only have UK players - according to some.

Paul Heckingbottom, Slavisa Jokanovic, Dave Basset, I could list another dozen previous managers with no Bladey connection.

Does a Head of Recruitment sit above Hoyland or is he going to be HOR and “Chief Scout” is the old fashioned title? Seems strange to bring in someone in a key position who would report to the incoming HOR unless he’s been lined up with their blessing.

It’s just a ploy to shut the fan base up. His actual job is to keep Wilders garden tidy until he walks again.

It would seem this is the role Bettis was talking about in his interview, which means it’s the lower role. The HOR is yet to be announced.

If this turns out to be true we have gone from someone who was a success at chesterfield and ideal for us after coming 11th in league one to someone with experience at the highest level. That's clearly an upgrade in the market they've been used to shopping in!
Yeah but despite all that, he’s a Blade and from Sheffield, so he must be shit in the eyes of the self-loathing.

Maybe the most talented applicants available are ex blades. The world pool may not want to come or be affordable.

Let go from his role at basket case Everton whose recruitment for the last few years has been pathetic, straight in as head for us.

Ex blade, friend of the manager, I’ve heard this story before.
