If you could combine Burke’s athleticism and decent work ethic with Moose’s footballing abilities you’d have a real player but then again he’d be at PSG or something not Bramall Lane

I agree with most of what you have said, except the idea CW would perhaps not given him a chance, lets be honest NONE of the strikers except Didsy are an automatic start, all have misfired to some degree or been injured, no one including SJ knows the best partnership or line up, it makes complete sense to give everyone a clean slate.
We don't know if Moose would have started on Saturday had Billy or McB been fit, again SJ can only judge that when everyone is available, if Moose grabs his chance then fine, likewise if he doesn't then no one including himself can argue he wasn't given that chance, he ends up being a sub until his contract is finished or he is part of a cash & player deal and moves on, but for now he gets a chance, based on no one else banging the goals in last season

They were both awful last season. I don't even think that's a matter of opinion.

They will be backed as all our players will.

Whether they play well this season remains to be seen. We have 4 forwards who were awful last year. I would hope at least 2 of them do well.

I think the argument isn’t over whether he gets paid to play football for a living, it’s that he appears to be devoid of the required technical ability and intelligence that is needed to play the position he has done at the level he has done.

On the face of it, he has the physicality of a modern day professional footballer, but not the ability.

The argument is supported by the way teams buy him, realise their mistake and get rid. WBA not wanting him last season was a big giveaway.

At 24 yrs of age, and a couple of early career big moves, his career is on a downwards trajectory. His level is lower championship or upper mid table Scottish premier.
 
I think they the main question for Burke (and to some extent Moose) is what happens when he loses that pace advantage he has.

I think you got the giste of what I was getting at Old Blade. Sorry to get the facts wrong, but to clear up the matter in every match that McBurnie or Mousse played or came on to play as a substitute- their player ratings were in every single case 2/10 - utter dogshite in every match.

One of my top predictions for the coming season is that McBurnie falls out of favour with Slav pretty quickly and gets loaned out in January

Apart from the fact that, based on Saturday, only 1 of those should start.

Slav is blatantly going to go with 343 unless something else miraculously presents itself during PS.

That leaves 1 place for the central striker and 2 wide players. Saturday proved that we need 2 wide players. Didzy did OK but ended up roaming all over the place and Brewster has never been a WF.

Burke could potentially play out wi...........................nah let's be honest he's just pure dog shit!

Personally IMO one of those positions will be taken by Freeman if he proves his fitness but we'd still need another at least one or 2 to start/cover injuries.

I also think if he finds form and fitness that McB will be the first choice central striker as he's probably more suited to the role than any of the others.
 
By most accounts depending on the system Moose wouldn't be in the starting line up. However if and we should be "concentrating on the league" I usually hate that phrase he will come in handy to have off the bench when comfortable/start in the cups. With an improved attitude can he do worse than Brewster? He needs to be fitter and be able to hold the ball up. Give him till January and if no bids of value come in a loan spell might be on the cards.

I'm genuinely curious to know what you've seen to suggest he's got a fair bit of ability?

He is head and shoulders the least technically gifted footballer I've seen in recent years. His awareness, decision making & movement is L1 standard. If he is categorised as a forward, let me say without exaggeration that a 34 year old Leon Clarke is a better forward then 24 year old Oli Burke.

The previous transfer fees paid for him are outrageous.

For a few months Leon Clarke was an outstanding striker for us. Genuinely some of the best performances I've seen of any Blades striker. So no shame in that.

As for Burke, he picks the ball up, runs very direct, has the ability to beat a man & he's surprised me on a number of occasions with incisive passes. Pretty sure one of them won us a penalty (Basham got dragged down for it I think?).
As bad as his end product often is, he was usually our only player who managed to make something happen.

*He is the worst player I've ever seen in challenging for headers. His timing is actually comical.

I hope you're right, Oli Burke playing with confidence and an end product would be exciting to watch.

True. But he's only played one season as a striker & was never given a prolonged run of games. He also played in one of the worst teams of all time in the PL whilst trying to find his feet (quite literally at times admittedly).

He's still only 24. Hardly a washed up veteran for writing off. He didn't cost us much, provided us with an out ball and a few decent moments, frightened many a PL defender with his size & pace, I'm sticking with him for now. His workrate is phenomenal too... complete opposite to Mousset. A very gifted footballer, but with the heart of a pea. I'd shift him on immediately if we can. A bad egg. I can't see much of a future for him.

I’m with you on Burke . I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as many are making him out to be and that playing wide in a system that suits his attributes could see him have a big impact on our attacking play . He’s never going to be a regular goal scorer but the same could be said of many influential attacking players throughout the years .

As for the Mouse , he can do one for me - bad attitude both on and off the pitch and not nearly as technically gifted as some would have us believe , starting with his crap first touch which I pointed out early on in his career with us .
