Forgot to give the reason for my OP...
SUFC, like just about every other club is a selling club. Always was, always will be. I've been told often about other clubs who 'wont sell their stars', but its a complete fallacy. If the number on the cheque is right then they'd sell you their granny, because they are a business first.
I came across the quote by John Harris about being the worst thing United had ever done, and it struck me that although many viewed the loss of Jones as exactly that, it was in part Jones departure that allowed Harris to put together the team that thrilled so many of us and became the start of a (short) golden era just a couple of seasons later.
It underlined, for me at least, that sometimes really disappointing events like player sales do turn out to be the catalyst to something better in time. I admit that it isn't like this always, but something that was predicted to be the 'worst thing' became the best United witnessed in living memory not long after.
I'm not myself predicting a golden era to start immediately, or even at all, btw. However I was, by means of a parody, suggesting that posters keep an open mind to all kinds of possibilities, not just the negative ones. It really is important not to get so bound up in the negative that their only outlet is to endlessly pour out their frustrations on forums like this, and take it out on the ones around you. So, that was my message. That all...
