A quite simply abject and pathetic performance today at BDTBL. We've gone from being worthy contenders to vulnerable victims in six drawn out months. As people say, this is on Heckingbottom and him, and his team, need to sort this shit out. If anyone has any confidence about this formation with these players after today then I'd be grateful for your working out because across the park it is a progressive regression to standards aligned with the failures in our relegation season under Wilder. We look afraid to take the fucking game by the throat and choke the living shit out of it. In short, we look like fucking imposters in the autos, and teams like Luton look far more worthy. Wednesday looms ... both as a team and a day in the calendar and for both to not make us even more tragic we need to get our heads out of our arses, admit the standard format is piss poor and start playing the football that is needed to get us promoted. If we don't, we all know what the consequences are and they are heartbreaking and humiliating in equal measures. Just extrapolate our start of next season with this lot - or possibly those still clinging onto a contract - and minus our only real hope Illiman Ndaiye. Those we haven't sold for a song to survive will still be here - Fleck, Stevens, Basham, Egan, Norwood, Sharp (possibly) ... all them who we came up from Div One with practically. That and millions owing and some shady bloke owning the club with no real plan for regeneration and no one signed in the TW. That is the spectre that haunts us. Today was one of the biggest shit or bust moments we had and we blew it. It's not all down to us now. It's all on Middlesbrough and they look very confident and capable.

As usual we started the first five being mopped up and dealt with knowing that this was just us going through the Bramall Lane motions. The rest of the half was spent benignly trying to tin-opener a way in with absolutely no real threat brought to bear on the Luton goal. Everything is as ever left to certain players to craft and when you can't even get the ball to them, Luton were happy to take the initiative. Our midfield in both halfs looks ragged and messy. We couldn't work the ball in and around their players and ended up going backwards as we tried to move forwards, pondering too long in areas we should be capitalising on. As we came out for the second half still with an underperforming Fleck and a business-as-usual Berge still on it was clear all Luton had to do was nick a goal because that is what they were set up to do. And they did it. They didn't just nick the goal too, they made us look incapable of coming back at them, until Hecky decided to make a change and bafflingly pulled off Fleck for Sharp when the game screamed to get Berge and Fleck off for McAtee and Doyle and leave Norwood on, himself being subbed later on dragging our best fucking defender off. What gives Hecky? Fuck's sake. At least with Doyle on we had more bite, and some sort of capability with McAtee but with others like Lowe and Bogle playing like dogshit, the mere spectacle of a goal was fanciful even if for a draw. Even with two minutes left in my deluded mind was the headline 'Blades win with two late, late goals!' but it was never gonna happen was it, no matter how much we huffed and puffed like a big bad gerbil.

Foderingham 5/10: Not much to do at all which spells out what kind of game it was and how Luton were set up. Beaten at the near post - again.
Bogle 3/10: An uninspiring, mistake-ridden game which left me feeling he's kinda not fucking bothered any more. Baldock in next game please. Try him in midfield.
Anel 5/10: and only just. Left Morris for the goal and looks decidedly doddy footed these days. A long way from earlier this season where he looked PL capable
Egan 5/10: Standard game from him. Still donkey bobbar as an auxiliary striker
JLT 6.5/10: Our best defender with the throws and the challenges and the ground he covers in his own way. Fuck knows why he was subbed. If you are going to four at the back get shut of Lowe and put him out wide
Lowe 4/10: Timit and ineffective. His yellow at the end kinda summed him up
Berge 3/10: A continuation of the shitness we have consistently seen this season. Him being able to hang onto the ball and run forward and having a shot cannon off one of theirs for a corner doesn't give me a £20m boner. Its taken us three long, fucking years to get everyone (bar Brownieblade and Edinblade) that this bloke is a fucking imposter.
Norwood 6/10: Thought he had a better game than many make out. But he can't fill three sets of football boots and today was pressed and harried a lot more than he should have been whilst Berge and Fleck did their traffic cone impersonations
Fleck 2/10: Last game for us now. The joke is over Hecky. He's been here since fucking years ago and has footballed his last at Bramall Lane. Let him go back to Scotland to play for Haggis Athletic and have fucking done with it. We cannot afford to allow him any more game time.
NDaiye 6/10: Does what he can and is so deft but can't hold this team up on his own. We were shitting ourselves the last injury was serious and it doesn't take much understanding that there is no player on our books who can do what he does, but we have to support him and help him. He worked his arse off today with McB for fucking nothing. It's what Sheffield United do
McB 6/10: Another one who worked himself into the ground but failed to capitalise on half chances

Sharp 5/10: Loads of hustle and bustle. Failed at taking half chances
McAtee 6/10: At least injected some forward motion but found himself isolated and alone or surrounded with players who didn't know how to move and exploit space
Doyle 6.5/10: Impressed with him tonight. Came on and made his point and gave us some bite although it would have been far better to leave Norwood on in the 'at home' role and allow Doyle to shift up the pitch

HJ&SMcC 1/10: Bad game for them and it all to do for Wednesday. They have to find out what worked so well against Spurs and stop doing favours for the likes of Berge and Fleck. Sunderland won't fuck about with us. They know how fragile we are and will gladly play round us and mop up our currently weak forays forward. And its a cold weekday game in a big old stadium a fair few miles away from home. They need radical change now because a loss to Sunderland and a win for Boro means we are effectively in the playoffs and we all know what happens next ...

You have a very inflated view of yourself, quite funny actually. Got 50% of an internet forum who find your narcissistic posts interesting...

On the rare occasions we managed an attack, we made their number 4 look like Franz Beckenbauer yesterday. He read everything, partly that was him being good, mostly that was US being a particularly impotent mix of lackadaisical and predictable.

Thanks for that. Are you here to have a pop at me sweetheart or comment on the football? I don't give a fat fuck what you think about me. If your ego is that fucking limited that the football doesn't matter as much as some poster, then maybe masturbation with an oiled thumb up your well fucked farter is for you.

Well, I'd argue that you do in fact 'give a fat fuck' because you've taken the time to insult and reply to me 😘

Actually go on, I'm feeling generous - maybe just a medium sized fuck.

Appreciate the love and kisses though xx

I think it is time to change our system, we have far too predicable in our slow, almost walking build up play.

Both wing backs have been poor and the midfield is almost none existent, slow, un athletic and just not capable of supporting the strikers.
Both McB and Nydjia are working there socks off with no real help.

I'd drop the wing backs, play a flat back four, ANEL, EGAN, CLARKE, ROBINSON.

Two holding midfielders, NORWOOD & DOYLE.
Three attacking midfielders, BERGE, NYDJIA, McATEE supporting MCBURNIE .

We need to play on the front foot, move the ball quicker, forward more than sideways and backwards.

Reckon Hecky started fleck not mcatee after the last Luton game. Our ponderous build up isn’t working against teams with energy who also sit back. away games down south on wednesday don’t help us against scrappers like millwall and Luton on Saturday. Under wilder for a while we were that high energy team and successful. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Sort it out Hecky.

Thanks Pommpey and others on here. Really depressing performance- I cant be arsed to say anything else. Bad day.

Very poor today The players seemed to get the ball and get rid of it as if it,s a piece of metal that just came out of the blast furnace. trying to rush. kicking it anywhere. instead of controlling the ball and passing it correctly.Bogle, Norwood. Fleck should be dropped to the Bench. Berge needs a kick up the arse. you can see he is a good player. but does not do enough. We must improve and quickly otherwise we will miss out on auto promotion. we all know we are not good in the playoffs.
What makes you so confident we will make the playoffs?

Cant remember the last time I felt so disgusted at the performance of the team. Can accept losing but not the attitude shown today. A team that goes up automatically does not put in performances like that at this crucial stage.
Rinse and repeat over the last two months

If Portsmouth found Norwood in bed with his Mrs he’d ask if he wanted a cuppa

Hecky out please

As a suggestion, the City boys are both destined for better things. Go with them and their motivation to better themselves rather than Fleck who will be released in the summer or Berge who, even if we went up, I wouldn't want to keep on recent showings. Let them flank Norwood, who has been 90% of the time out best midfielder this season but needs help.

You only need to see the way Baldock stuck manfully to his task against Spurs to see he's the one for the battle rather than Bogle who seems more suited to non-competitive games which finish about 10-7, where he can show a few skills but if he loses the ball and the others score nobody gives a toss because another goal will go in soon. His attitude to defensively is pretty disgraceful.

Is that enough to get us where we want to be? I'd consider moving Robinson over to left wing back in the absence of Norrington-Davies and bringing in Clarke. It needs characters now. It doesn't need those that just turn up when it's going well.
Agree

Baldock and Clark in - JLT r w back - Bogle and Lowe out

Doyle in - Fleck out

You do the Hecky cokey ti turn us around

That’s what it’s all about

Oh dear, oh dear!
I’d like to believe you’re better than this sort of stuff, but I fear you are not.

I was suprised by how little the lineup had changed before yesterday’s kick off. It looks like it will be 10 more matches of the same and it’s easy to see why. It must be attractive to stick with a formation that has got us in a great position rather than gamble and introduce that variable and culpability if the wheels still come off.

Absolutely agree. We are not scoring enough goals. In his post-match interview, Hecky alluded to the same as well as recognising that the players started off cautious.

Changing to a flat back four with a new manager might well be too much to adapt at this stage, but Hecky knows these players and he is not going to be replaced anytime soon. The cup is as much an opportunity to try this out as any.

Pretty much agree with your analysis, Pommpey.

Fleck - Not his fault for being picked but what has he done this season, or last season, to justify coming straight back into the team ahead of Doyle? Nothing. Poor from the manager and clear favoritism based on what the player once was, and obviously isnt anymore.

Sander - a couple of nice balls side to side isnt enough. Needs dropping, not the player he is hyped to be. I think one of our better spells this season was when he was out injured (if memory serves correct). A little part of me still thinks it would have been better for him to have gone to Fulham, We'd have been able to stop the embargo and strengthen in the midfield. Manager doesnt have the guts to drop him.

Norwood - really gone off the boil lately and should have also been dropped, but the manager hasnt got the bottle to do it.

Even Hecky said we'd need lots of energy against Luton, so he knew it, just didnt have the bottle to drop a couple or all of the three amigos above in order to add energy.

Very, very poor from the manager and the players.

No. I've just taken the time to deal with you. Occasionally in 'My take ...' we get people just like you. Possibly knowing and caring not a fuck about the football or Sheffield United instead 'having an inflated opinion' so large they think they can gainstage the debate by attacking the poster, not what has been posted just for their own satisfaction or worse still, ego.

As you'll see though, given United's pisspoor performance yesterday (the subject matter) there's more than 50% than you wrongly attest agree with me. Your subject matter is 'me'. If the 'My take ... ' was about me, then you'd have a point. But it's not. It's about United's game yesterday. So it's pointless. As are you.

If you can't handle having the ball whacked back across the court at you then put your racquet down and fuck off. Either that, or talk to everyone about football and how you think United played really well yesterday. If you actually watched the game, that is.

i think your spot on with this post ive been advocating changing to 4231 for 2 months now weve nowt to lose now by trying it were not going up playing 352 rubbish its old hat although i would put jebbo up top instead of mcburnie dont rate him never rated him and never will norwood and berge dont deserve to be in the starting line up either know hes a bit of a wildcard but i would like to see more of coulibally and possibly give oliver arblaster a run as well we need youth and pace in midfield

An abject performance well reported on.
I took my 8 year old grandson for his first match at BL and he was bored ! He summed it up by saying “ when I watch ladies play it is much more exciting “ !!
No more needs to be said.

Why can't we all just be friends? ☹️

Because football doesn't matter to some. They come on boards like this for their own purpose. And when they have nothing to say, they feel they need to fill the silence in their heads with this sort of stuff.

I said to Mrs G, as we were walking out of the ground, "if I wanted to be bored, depressed and freezing cold, I could have just sat in the back garden, rather than coming down here".

What an absolute shit show that was. Once I saw the team line up, I knew we were in trouble, especially in midfield. When I arrived at the ground, all the lads I know and chat to, were saying the same thing, "have you seen the starting line up?".

Luton - we should know what they are all about, not much in the way of skill/talent, but very athletic; fit, fast, strong. So what do we do?, we start with players who are not fit, fast or strong. Fleck, sorry John, not your fault that you are being picked, but good grief man, have some situational awareness. There was a point in the first half where Flecky was trotting forward with the ball, dithering, and one of their players just ran up behind him and took the ball from his feet, school playground stuff.

The lad who sits next to me said "we would be better sticking Bash on, in Fleck's place, at least he can carry the ball forward, can defend a bit, has decent stamina", and I couldn't argue with that.

When the same lads came out for the second half, we (the lads who sit around me every week), were shocked and just sort of looked at each other, open mouthed.

Constantly lumping the ball forward, when it was obvious after 15 minutes that Oli McB, as good as he can be in the air, was getting nowhere against their defenders.

Not starting Doyle was bad enough, but taking Jack Robbo off?, can anyone on here defend that?, the hardest of hard cases gets taken off when playing against a really tough, strong team? I sort of get Max Lowe being on, because Ossie is crocked, but Bogle instead of George B?, Same as Robbo, we are playing against a tough, physical side, and George, for all his lack of height and build, is fearless, the opposite of Sander in a way, smaller than average with the heart of a Lion.

Billy - there was a time when the ball would have dropped for him in the box, and he would have turned on it and lashed it into the net, but those few extra seconds he needs these days mean he is blocked and closed down. Still strong and can still hold it up well, though.

The two pig fans in our local (good lads, to be fair) couldn't wait for me and the Mrs to walk into the pub, "what happened today?, thought you would have beaten them, are you still confident about the top two place?". I didn't bite.

I have said on a few occasions, on here, over the last few weeks, that Boro were more than capable of catching and over taking us, and people would quickly jump on that, saying how Boro would give their right arm to be in second place, with a points lead. Well, they don't need to give their right arm, do they?, just be patient for a few more weeks.

You haven't been round these areas long have you Fallowfield? Anyone care to remind this no-nuts my past opinions of Oliver Norwood?

I'd call you a bell-end Fallowfield but it's a bit beneath my level

pommpey

Why do you have to get personal Portsmouth what me and Ms fallowfield get upto is not of anyone’s interest on this forum

And thanks for not calling me a bellend

What level would that be ? Are you an influencer do you do YouTube ?

Once again I have a UEFA A license so nobody is on my level definitely not on this forum anyway my level is pep guardiola and klopp your level is more Steve evans

Spot on pumps, hecky is now coming to fruition the man is clueless.

Um - your referral to my wife and Oliver Norwood ring any bells, Forrest?

And thanks for not calling me a bellend

That's okay. Because in no way are you a bellend. At all.

What level would that be ? Are you an influencer do you do YouTube ?

Why do you ask? Are you?

Once again I have a UEFA A license so nobody is on my level definitely not on this forum anyway my level is pep guardiola and klopp your level is more Steve evans

Yes, but y'see to verify that and to dispel any opinion you're a lying shit and to prove your credibility, i'f you'd just provide your licence number I can send it to Jonathan or to my other mate at a Div 2 club and they can 'yay' or 'nay' it and we can all start believing your opinions are a great deal above Panini and Subbuteo.

Frankly I don't believe you know anything about football, or coaching. So if you want to prove even me wrong (like you seem so fond of broadcasting how right you think you are) then you'll cough up the details and we can all then start understanding you are more than just a gobshite.

The two pig fans in our local (good lads, to be fair) couldn't wait for me and the Mrs to walk into the pub, "what happened today?, thought you would have beaten them, are you still confident about the top two place?". I didn't bite.

The gig I played last night, one of the bouncers wearing his Portsmouth FC jacket had just come straight from Fratton where he is head of security. All I could say to him was "You lot couldn't even beat Sheffield fucking Wednesday for us!"

Spot on and well done for doing a report and not throwing your dummy out like our other 'reporter' .
I thought these were for people who couldnt go to the game to get an idea.

If Fleck ever plays for us again I am not renewing my ST.
We have but a few weeks left of Doyle & McAtee and I want to see them in our side.
I don't want to see Berge but he'll never be dropped until the end of the season when we might recoup a couple of bob for him from some idiot club.
Baldock must play.
I'd replace Egan with Clark.
Get Jebbo on not Sharp.
Oh how stupid was a 5 year contract for Hecky ... Who is managing his abject performances ?
Bettis ? The invisible local leader of the club which is a shambles from the top.
Absolutely spot on, all those changes and we might have a chance to not completely fuck this up.

Wes
Baldock, Anel, Clark, JLT, Lowe?(maybe)
Doyle, Norwood (sitting playmakers)
Ndiaye (2 #10’s) McAtee
McB
