Cheers as always, Pomps.

I’ll add my own tuppence (ooh matron…).

Agree on Baldock needing to channel his aggression. He could have been sent off really. Was on a yellow and got involved in more stuff afterwards, and he could possibly have seen a yellow for the penalty shout. I’d need to see it back, but it looked if not a dive, then at least initiating contact.

Doyle was fine, but probably would give a 7.

I know most of this thread is people arguing about Berge, but I think deep down everyone has a similar opinion on him today. He again didn’t play as well as we would all like or as well as we think he can. I’d probably give him a 5.2, but I can see why someone would give him a 4 or a 6. I don’t think he did anything particularly wrong, but the lack of urgency is noticeable and he hasn’t really obviously affected the game in anyway. If we’re being charitable, we could say he was part of an effective team defensive performance. If we delve into the stats, though, he’s got zero tackles, zero duels won, zero interceptions, and gave away a couple of silly fouls.

Finally, we never really got going today (again), but the football in the build up to the goal was really nice: Some quick playing out involving all three CBs. Good play from McBurnie, good movement from Lowe, and a nice clever little pass from Doyle. Lowe lost it, but Ndiaye kept it alive with his pressing. Really liked how well and how quickly we moved the ball up the pitch. Would like to see more.
Thats just it, Berge does not look fully committed to the cause , and that should be a minimum for any pro footballer, specially if he plays for us . He is unfortunate in that he has a languid style and a laid back nature and is probably trying harder than it appears , but everything is too ’safe’ re passing ,shooting, tackling etc . He just plays like hes holding back all the time…. Criminal !

I can't see where any player yesterday deserved less than a 6, of the defenders Lowe struggled against a pacey winger and the diving cheat Aarons but stuck at it and got better Robinson loses a mark for getting caught pissing about with the ball at the back the ref got him out of jail by blowing for a foul or Sargent would have been in on goal I'd still give both a 6. Midfield I can't see why Berge was any worst than McAtee who had a quiet game apart from grabbing the winner. I think Berge was worth a 6 he got us out of bother 1st half clearing up a bit of a defensive shambles when the back three were pissing about and lost the ball between them if he was called Joe Bloggs and didn't have a £20m price tag most would just say he had an average game. That said he did miss a easy chance and needs to work on heading a football.

If SUFC pay more than £10m for a player he has to be like Messi every week or he quickly becomes a scapegoat see Brewster, McBurnie all have or are suffering from fan abuse by the small time thinking crew and the we're little old Sheffield United thinking maybe we should stick to buying cloggers for £400k. I'd only give McBurnie a 6 too but I see on another thread the knives are out for him again. Yes he was average yesterday but had bugger all to work with not one decent ball into the box even Doyle was guilty of over hitting crosses unless Norwich have a very narrow pitch.

Overall I thought it was a fairly solid performance and a deserved win while not at our best due to the game being stop/start with Norwich diving and being mardy arses when tackled but it is the time of the season where you grind results out looking pretty comes second the first priority is to get the job done which we did. You could sense we would score in the second half and it would be enough to see off Norwich who didn't threaten a goal all game really.

This sums it up perfectly, it’s all about the transfer fee with our fan base.

I swear some of our fans are stuck in the early 2000s when £20m was a huge fee. It may be a big fee for Sheffield United, but £20m doesn’t get you very much these days.

If City made Doyle or McAtee available for transfer in the summer, they’d be £20m players easily (possibly even more). That’s 2 young players with no premier league experience!

I'm not trolling stop getting personal
I'll just leave it now you're making yourself look a bit of a tit

No, you'll walk away, because you have nothing to say about the subject matter.

It's almost ... as if ... you didn't even watch the game. Yep. That's possibly it. You rely on others' positive reviews. Nailed it.

Please, jog on Frank. It is you who is mammary, not I.

They don't bother about the £20m price tag.

Oh, but that's not indicative of a player's ability or worth, you see?

Hecky should make a bid of £500k for Salah, £750k for De Bruyne and ten bob for Haaland.

Fucking ridiculous, excuse making twerps. They are fast running out of excuses for Berge.

Maybe you are stuck in the Basset era late 80's. Up n at em, kick it long, kick it high, kick it hard eh? I'm not sure what people want for £20m which is bargain basement stuff these days, MGW went to Forest for around double that. That's the trouble with a lot of our fanbase all they want to see is fist pumps and kissing the badge bollocks, buy a player and we get the good old Yorkshire intake of breath and ARRGH MUCH ? Sheffield little village syndrome to a tee, I can see why old Pinchy used to wind up this forums users as he had an uncanny ability to hit raw nerves.

Leave my mate Frank the tank alone

It’s quite clear that you have an issue with Sander because either

A) You Served Sander in McDonald’s and he didn’t say thank your for his large fries

B) Handed in a transfer request on FIFA (my players don’t as I’m A license qualified) which is why you put pretend ratings

I don’t have to do that as my opinions are true to myself

FALLOWFIELDDDD WOZ ERRREEEEE

Berge far better than a 4. It's like you've something against him it was Robbo earlier in the season then Norwood now berge.

Pommps, you need to read Deadbat's reports. That's the way to do it.

You'll get muted agreement on him 'reading the game' He is (fairly) good at ball retention but that's it. And it's not good enough for a midfielder with such supposed pedigree. It's not like he came here triggering a flamethrower on midfields immediately. At first it was 'he needs time to settle' then he picked up his injury which benched him for half a season. Then in the division below we assumed he'd be way, way above the standard there and be our talisman ... almost Tony Currie like in playmaking and drive. But he's not even dented the paintwork even at this level, even against pretty shambolic midfields too. And then injured again ... 'he's returning from injury' excuses ran out and still he doesn't get his sleeves up and deliver. And 'accurate passes' are okay but up front we have a tricky attacking goalscorer and a target man. I don't see any of Berge's forward looking work threading them in or finding them in space despite, like yesterday, them running their socks off. McBurnie may appear dogshit but you can't fault his will to be involved and NDaiye is a level way above us as we know. Get the ball to them and work off the percentages.

Not just 'because' of that header. In spite of that he was ineffective and poor. But that's nowt new. He's been here three years and I can count on one hand possibly the matches he has shown his worth.

Agree with that yes for his so called pedigree his performances are to say the least uninspiring.
He plays the simple balls he doesn’t open defences and you will never see him cross a ball.
Once upon a time he used to get round the back with an injection of pace where’s that gone.
Finally he’s drifts in an out of games sorry that that’s not the trait of a quality midfielder

Us signing Sander is not so different to wanting a massive cock.

You like the idea of it and you know others will be impressed by it.

But you have no idea how to use it, whether you should even have it or not and you're certainly not ready for the discomfort, complaints and negative feedback that comes with it.

But outwardly you're still liking the idea of it now you have it, even though you're no further forward with the downsides of it.

That's us after three seasons.

Kind of 🤣
Contender for post of the year.

Do we do that?

That’s true he has in the past got round the back to the bye line and almost became untackleable.
So is he suffering a really bad run of form ?
So frustrating when we have seen him do it.
What’s the saying? Form is temporary class is permanent?

Chimp ? Are you insulting me ?

No. I am using a simile.

Not at all. It's a descriptor. You said you'd fuck off if we won. Why haven't you?

Brilliant. You know what to do. Are you going to offer me out?

Makes me wonder if Frankie Boy happens across another review which fails his taste test somewhere online. Does he similarly piss his pants over that also?

Not sure it adds up that Hecky thinks he's bobbar because he substituted him. If you extrapolate that, he thinks Ndiaye is even worse as Ndiaye has been substituted far more often this season. It would make McAtee and Doyle bobbar as well, in which case the conclusions may have to be that a midfield of Norwood, Basham and Fleck should start. Or if they are also bobbar from not being able to get a start, erm...It's a poor argument.

What Berge does have is an ability to read the game/space on the pitch and to act on that fairly quickly and rapidly on that. He's fairly comfortable drawing players onto him, but still being able to get an accurate pass away to a teammate in space.

The header was shite - he knows it and everyone else knows he's going to get a below par score from some because of it. Ah well.
Agreed. Using that logic then anybody ever substituted is, in fact, shit.

GymClassHero, I don't give a fat fuck what you think. Genuinely, I don't. You're just like the rest of the paperboys and pillocks who browse My Take just to get your dicks hard by attacking me and offering nowt about the match, Berge, United or anything football. Your post is proof of that. Their opinions are their own, usually bereft of detail about the game. more about their own personal psychoses about people on a football bulletin board. Attacking me because of my opinion whilst not offering a counter argument is the stuff of yesteryear and easy to shine a spotlight on.

And yeah. I sign my posts off with 'pommpey' specifically to piss people like you off. And I'll keep doing it because of that.

Thanks as always for your take. It gives the forum a biting review to discuss. Some on here seem intent on bigging up their own profile rather than reasoned debate. Each to their own, my only advice is to ignore the self promoting titheads and stick to your own incisive views. Don't give them airtime.
Enough of that, and back to reality and sensibility.
My view on the Berge debate is, what is his role in the team? Each player provides something. Norwood's ping and reading of the game, Furious' drive and aggression, McBs industry, McAtee's cheekiness in trying to unpick defences, Illi's amazing skill, industry and sheer pain in the arse to any defence, spotted with moments of pure brilliance. Anel, similar but from defence. etc.. etc.. All are picked with a role to play in the team. Sander? Undoubted skill and ability, defensively and heading ability - pretty useless for such a big bloke. Ball holding, ok. But his role is surely to bring Illi and now McAtee into play. To provide the link from defence to attack? This he fails to do week in and week out. He is not a terrible player, he just doesn't do the job he is there for. Anyone who reads my posts know I regularly complain of the disconnect between defence and attack. I believe this is supposed to be his function. Occasionally he drives through, he should demolish most midfields in the championship with his pace, ball control and driving runs. He doesn't. He is a passenger most games. I can't decide 4 or 5 for yesterday's performance. I don't really care. I just wish he would do the job he is assigned to do.
Anel for me was MoM, Doyle close behind. Not a great performance from the team, but enough on the day, Norwich should concentrate on the basics and give up shithousing. They were totally impotent in the final third. Hanley should retire and take up wrestling as a career. I was laughing my cock off that it was this dirty twat who played McAtee onside. Effing lumbering neanderthal.
There you go, reasoned discussion I think. And now very optimistic again. Could we catch Belgiumloanly still? Maybe only 5 points behind with 6 to play after Easter? Dreaming I know but....

always an excellent read, you’re one of my four or five ‘go-to’ sources of analysis of the games pommpey.

that being said, respectfully, i don’t know why you bother with some of the nonsense posted by ‘haters’. they’re only looking for a silly argument, and i don’t believe you do yourself any favours lowering yourself to their level.

greetings to all from free ukraine. slava blades!

I'm done with toying with the bellend. It was just a matter of time until his foot stepped into the gin trap with regard offering people out. Hopefully he'll learn. There have been quite a few posters on here who were universally reviled until they got the gist. His pathetic attempts at humour to mask the desperation and stupidity wear a bit thin in places. He's as funny as a capsized raft in a shipping lane.
