He reminds me somewhat about my grandad who loved his footy..When City was away he went to Old Trafford and vice versa. It was common before telly and the 70´s hooliganism he told me.
My dad (a Blade) and my favourite uncle (Wendy) used to watch both Sheffield teams in 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. When I started following football in 1970 my dad did take me to some matches at S6 if he decides against going to Blades away match on that day. Some months later we went to more Blades away games as he knew I preferred them than matches at S6
I remember on his round the world trip he was trying to find out how United had gone on against Newcastle I think we beat them 3-1 and he mentioned it
In his diaries he mentions going to watch the Chelsea v United game with Bill Oddie on 1/9/73 and in a footnote says something to the effect that he generally supports both Sheffield teams (something considered a hanging offence in Sheffield), but his preference is for United.
Most memorable was watching Pigs get relegated v Man City when MC never tried an inch but still managed to win.
As MP supported the Blades as a chabbie, then hes a Blade. Once a Blade always a Blade. He has books to sell so maybe he doesn't want to alienate the other half of Sheffield. Very shrewd imho.![]()

I was there bowyer the blade all said about this match is true only bowyer playing for a place in the team so only one who tried after coming on as sub .April 1970. Man City Mike Doyle hit a soft penalty to keeper Peter Grummitt. Ian Bowyer came on as sub, probably didnt realise that he was the only City player that wanted to win and scored both goals in the 2-1 win
He was hoping for a place in the Cup Winners Cup final team against Gornik Zabrze that was to be played in the following week. He was the sub again and came on in the 1st half replacing the injured Mike Doyle and got the winners medal.I was there bowyer the blade all said about this match is true only bowyer playing for a place in the team so only one who tried after coming on as sub .
Loved it
