As I See It

I don’t trust Wilder to get January right based on what he did last January when not a single signing worked. Choudury was the only player who made an impact and that was more luck than judgement as he was signed to play midfield and ended up covering right back when the player we did sign to play right back turned out to be absolute dogger.

Lest we forget we also blew £10m on a certain Tom Cannon.

The summer window is the big window. January is for panicking teams or ithe icing on the cake signing. I know which summer I rate over the last two. Our issue last Jan was that we needed half a squad.

To clarify i didnt think it had to be Wilder this time
but with this squad i dont see anyone doing better than him with this squad and most would do worse
I do think January needs to be big i do hope they are working at already
or we will be back where CW started from
happy days
If we are adrift there will be little investment in the window - without selling first
Since we don't have a natural goalscoring centre forward maybe its time to try a youngster! We have 3 in my opinion and they are all different and it maybe too soon for any or all of them! What have we to lose.
Marsh the oldest one is a real talent but seems to have lost his way a bit !
First through injury a broken arm and one or two niggles due to his growth spurt which left him under strength and bullied.A year or so on his back now it might just be time to try him! He in my opinion could play the false nine roll effectively ! he is a clever player and with lots of ability.Worth a shout.
ON'Es got what Marshy hasn't a bit of
Natural strength but really is a gentle giant who needs to be more aggressive! Talented though!.

Young Beattie ! His father played for us but I reckon he will be a lot better ! a natural goalscorer but he is still a kid and it maybe too soon to push him in (18).
I know footballs changed a lot these days and bringing young players in is harder than it used to be.Birchenall & Jones both were teenagers when they broke through and played as the blonde bombers for a time before we sold Jones followed shortly by the sale of Birchenall! We got relegated soon after I wonder why!.
John Harris would tell us if he was still around.
The way it's going scoring goals is going to be an ongoing struggle! Nothing to lose ! Give em a go.!
It won't do them any harm to try them.
you can’t play one striker with the lack of contribution behind and wide of them
You could put Halland up their isolated and he wouldnt score

I disagree. Certainly not the answer, but given the choice of Brewster or Cannon off the bench I know who I'd choose every single time. At least he did give an impression that he cared and tried when on the pitch.
I think the point is that he wouldn’t be available off the bench. Look how often he’s been in a Matchday squad this season.

As someone who didn't want him back the 2nd time, let alone a 3rd, I can at least get behind the idea that a team in a relegation battle (assuming our players realise that it is actually a battle they're in ) needs to stop conceding goals and that should make sure enough points are ground out of the mill to make sure that fate is avoided.

It does mean that I'm spending far too much time during games looking at my phone because there's little of interest on the pitch as everything is merely a means to an end (and even that is not currently being accomplished). But that's pretty much how it was for me for most of last season - we were just aiming in a different direction. And Praise the Lord that we didn't achieve that as our current malaise would seem like a tame Storm Amy compared to the cataclysm we would be experiencing now.

The scattergun approach to signings has been no more successful than Wilder's picks, it's all as random as bingo, and having appointed someone the cowardly decision to sack him when not giving the change any chance at all to work shows we're owned by panic-stricken fools. Yes, I know it was terrible to watch, but a new team can take two or three months to find its feet. We haven't even had a 'new' manager bounce as a result of it; just a dead cat bounce.

I don't, though, expect we will finish in the bottom three, or even the bottom six.

As I see it

Having been a blade for many years, I believe we are seeing another implosion just like the Furphy team and the post Basset and Warnock era’s

Last season CW recruited fairly well and managed to organise them so that in some ways they over achieved all the way to 90pts

I believe CW recognised the limits of the squad and had plans in place to hopefully take up another level [who knows it would be interesting to know who he had lined up]

Unfortunately, the board decided to be dynamic and appoint a new manager who as results showed flattered to deceive. He and the board also allowed key players to leave and recruited badly. Yes, those Bulgarians are really tearing up the league

Since CW returned I think it is fair to say that the teams performances have improved, but the results haven’t. The squad that last year won 1- 0 are now only capable of holding it to a 0-1 loss

I know many are saying we should sack CW and replace, but who is he leaving out that should be playing [none that I can see] and a question I ask is WHICH manager could change this squad into a winning team?

As I see it, we need a good January window or I seriously believe we will be playing Rovram next season

Well done the board

UTB
I agree with a lot of that.

We can’t sack CW. I can’t believe I’m saying it but we cannot.

Firstly, I don’t think the board can afford it, or they wouldn’t have brought wilder back in the first place.

Secondly, who would take it who could do any better? The players are unmotivated and bereft of confidence. We have rapidly become a poisoned chalice for any other “decent” manager.

We are in the shit.

So what’s next? On paper, the squad we have is more than enough to make the play offs. We won’t now, so we have to look at a rescue mission. Wilder needs to take the formation apart and start again, rediscover his mojo and get some pride back, but back on the safe options and play front foot football.

The players have a massive responsibility. Never mind this “weight of the shirt” bollocks. It should be heavy, they are paid to bare the weight. Plenty of others have taken the weight before.

Or they could take the easy option, dial it in and when their career is over they will be rich, but a side note in our history. They might not care about that, but we do, all of us.

So, to the players, my message is simple.

You have a gift, you are professional footballers

What are you going to fucking do with that gift?

I keep seeing it stated that the board let key players go in summer? Which key players would still be here if Wilder had stayed, the only two I can think of are probably Robinson and Moore, and I heard them described as many things last season, but key players was not one of them.
Those sales were a fait accompli regardless. A board decision

Business wise what we tried to do in the summer was take us as a club/business which is at the level of the Grocery shop in open all hours and turn it into an AI new age superstore in a month. The recruitment was driven on AI, tactically the manager spoke a good game however players especially the likes of Robbo aren’t going to buy into such a huge change. During that month after sacking Wilder the board managed to split the fan base and not forgetting reunited the fan base as apparently “we wanted Wilder back” which was included in their statement on reappointing Wilder that they listened to the fans. We lack the zip in midfield and the fitness and fight that we expect for those that wear red and white. We need 2 up top but also we need to give them service, a bit of free range for a false 9 type of player. The sides we have lost to have done a Wilder on us and done just enough to win the match, rode their luck at times and come away with 3 points. In a way it is good it isn’t paying off as it would be easy to say everything is great but when it’s shit football and shit results it’s a bit more difficult to get your head around. FA Cup Round 1, League Trophy and playing during international breaks are all to look forward to if it keeps going the way it is.
