The enigma that is Tom Davies

Once he's back somewhere near fitness (not sure he'll ever be 100%), he needs to be eased back into the side.

He can't start every game and nor should he but if he's on the field for between 20 and 70 minutes for say 25 of the next 40 games, the impact is bound to be positive.

Once fit, a combination of Davies, Arblaster, Peck and Matos/Soumare chiming in when needed, should be decent enough for the central two in midfield.

Staying fit is clearly an issue but as far as I'm aware he doesn't have a single injury limiting his career, so there's the possibility he could end up having a good run a la Brewster.

He's also the best midfielder we have.

If I was manager, I'd want him involved ASAP.
Hope so, and i think he would be more visible than Brewster😊

Wilder mentioned in the presser how important it was for us to have Tom Davies back, and that's something i just don't get.

Sure, he may be a good player when he's not injured, but he's made 16 starts for us over 2 seasons. How can a player that is available so infrequently be so important?

I can only assume that Wilder said it for motivational reasons.
Wilder has always liked experienced players, and seemed to be a big fan of Tom Davies last year.

You could put TD in the same category as Ings, Godfrey and Mee, all of whom have over 2 decades of top flight experience between them.

We need players like that this season, given how young the core of this team is.

Don’t really understand it as he didn’t even bother trying to get Davies ready for a potential start at Wembley by starting him in the home leg. His experience would’ve counted then, but in all likelihood he probably wasn’t fully fit so he felt off the bench was the best we could get from him.

We need two from Peck, Matos or Soumare to really put their hand up and show they’re capable, which I think is far more likely than Tom Davies being a key player for us this season.

I thought he was excellent tonight, covered a lot, always looking for the ball and brave as he was always trying to make positive moves. Shame we won’t see him until November
He’s good going forwards and knitting play but gets run past fairly easily. Tires badly I thought which is to be expected. We’ve Still not got the balance right in midfield yet although it looked loads better tonight.

Game swung to them as Davies tired and our game fell apart Ben he went off

He did great. Yes he did tire as the match progressed which is understandable. He was playing deeper and deeper.

My only criticism, we let a goal in, he takes the kick off, passes the ball all the way back to Cooper. WHY?!!!!!!!!!
We all know what Cooper does next. He seems to do it four or five times every match…. throw-in.

He did ok for me, probably 6/10. Better than the 5/10 Peck and definitely someone I’d like to see have a run of games.

Having watched the goals again though he stood and watched Stewart run past him for the first and then didn’t tackle (or foul) Stewart for the 2nd allowing him time to shoot. Piss weak defending.

Just been in the club shop (as I have some club points) to get my Tom Davies action figure. There was only one in sock and it were broken so didn't bother.
