I assume hes a Blade so should be interesting. I think hes just guessing the results.
Not sure Linz will be watching though. :)
Also is Dan Walker a Blade?

MP likes all local teams but have stated that he support Wednesday on telly..

Not sure about that end of that - I thought he liked local teams but he was a Blade.
Cannot remember where he said it tho' but I defo heard it as I had wanted to know since 'Around the World in 80 Days' as in that he found a trophy in a skip and said it was Wednesday's or summat similiar.

Sure someone will know.

Michael Palin always mentions Wednesday though..

Yeah I seem to remember him saying on one his trips, that he wanted to know how 'the Pigs got on', didn't use that exact wording though

I've read alot of his books, he mentions both in equal measures. My in-laws are seeing him tonight at a book festival, I will get them to confirm if he has tattoo's, what he thinks of 4-5-1, whether he'd have Warnock back, if he's a bigger Blade than Sean Bean, whether the new strip is better than the last one, who is favourite number 3 was etc, I'm sure the old dears will love it :)

He reminds me somewhat about my grandad who loved his footy..When City was away he went to Old Trafford and vice versa. It was common before telly and the 70´s hooliganism he told me.

My dad (a Blade) and my favourite uncle (Wendy) used to watch both Sheffield teams in 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. When I started following football in 1970 my dad did take me to some matches at S6 if he decides against going to Blades away match on that day. Some months later we went to more Blades away games as he knew I preferred them than matches at S6

I remember on his round the world trip he was trying to find out how United had gone on against Newcastle I think we beat them 3-1 and he mentioned it

He must be so proud right now then.
I hope he likes going down as much as Michael Douglas does.

In his diaries he mentions going to watch the Chelsea v United game with Bill Oddie on 1/9/73 and in a footnote says something to the effect that he generally supports both Sheffield teams (something considered a hanging offence in Sheffield), but his preference is for United.

I remember in a Comedy Connections programme or similar about Ripping Yarns he compares Barnstoneworth's plight to his own love of United.

I used to watch football all round the region when Blades not playing, thing that stopped this in recent years was the increased cost. Most memorable was watching Pigs get relegated v Man City when MC never tried an inch but still managed to win. Also a footballing masterclass from Ginola for Spurs at Oakwell but Barnsley still won 3-1. Finally watching Blyth Spartans at Emley with Budgie, Pike and Todd in the BS team. Pikey had a chat during a long injury and told me that he loved it at the Lane and would give anything to be back. He can come back tomorrow for me.

As MP supported the Blades as a chabbie, then hes a Blade. Once a Blade always a Blade. He has books to sell so maybe he doesn't want to alienate the other half of Sheffield. Very shrewd imho. :)

Does remind me of some of my uncles and great-uncles (all long gone) who would all describe themselves as Unitedites (the nomenclature 'Blades' was never used back then) but they would toddle off to the piggery when we played away. Don't think they would've gone as far as saying they supported both though!

we now know that Michael Palin went to this match

April 1970. Man City Mike Doyle hit a soft penalty to keeper Peter Grummitt. Ian Bowyer came on as sub, probably didnt realise that he was the only City player that wanted to win and scored both goals in the 2-1 win

Rubbish, Wednesdayites can't read.

He was hoping for a place in the Cup Winners Cup final team against Gornik Zabrze that was to be played in the following week. He was the sub again and came on in the 1st half replacing the injured Mike Doyle and got the winners medal.
